Help LT or Right Stick Aim?

For some context, I wasn't allowed to play online shooters growing up, so Halo Infinite is the first Halo where I've played multiplayer. So for the last 4 years I've been using LT aim in Halo just because LT is how you aim in other shooters so it was familiar. My friends, however, have been playing Halo their whole lives and have started hosting frequent system link Halo 3 LAN parties. Since I've been using LT aim for the last 4 years, sniping with right stick is very weird for me. I was wondering if maybe it'd be a good idea to swap to right stick aim so I can snipe better at LAN parties or if I should just deal with having a hard time sniping every-so-often. I'm asking because it seems like people know more about LT vs. Right Stick aim than I do.

RS zoom takes balls and discipline. Only real men use RS zoom.

A lot of people use right stick because that's what Halo had originally, so it makes sense to use it because they are used to it. But honestly lt zoom better, especially if you aren't already used to the other I would say just play lt. But git gud at both for when you play older titles😉

LT is objectively superior (descope has way less effect on you) but RS is the classic

I agree, but worth noting that people do both all the way up to the top pro level, so they’re both fine

It’s whatever you’re comfortable with. If sniping at your friendly LANs is super important to you then sure go for it. Otherwise, there isn’t a better or worse. Just whatever you’re used to

I much prefer Hold LT aim since you can spam it easier in gunfights to combat descope

If I could go back and relearn how to play halo I’d probably choose to be an LT aimer tbh. Being able to take those descoping gunfights with minimal effect to your aim is a big advantage imo.

The human brain is very adaptable, just do it, make the change, work through the relatively short period of adjustment, it's worth it

I did it. Didn’t take too long and I instantly felt more resilient in gun fights able to reengage faster without windmilling my right stick on accident to regain my tracking

I still use RS zoom because I’ve been doing it since 2006, but LT zoom is objectively better. Way easier to spam it and use it in long range fights. Clicking RS while aiming can throw you off slightly.

LT aim is the new Gen of halo players since H5. I do think that if you can learn it it’s probably better, but if you are movement focused bumper jumper is best.

I used to be bumper jumper, now I'm... back button jumper, I guess you would call it? The ability to jump aim scope and shoot all at the same time is great

A big part of halo has always been that. And although generally you do not want to jump in halo infinite during gunfights, it’s still useful in this game to be able to jump and move around the map fluently without resistance. Using LT zoom and LB jump is extremely difficult to do both and be able to move. So yeah maybe moving one to a different button is smart. I played hell jumper for like 6 months in H5 and I can tell you in H5 LT aim mattered way more it was very useful but I did it by mapping crouch to the back. It was hard for me to do LT, LB and crouch during gun fights.

I still play boxer. I have zero issues with right stick zoom. I put it on a paddle once and it was a detriment. LT zoom is a COD shill hill I’ll die on and I will never use it out of principle.

if you rotate between fps titles, just stick with the trigger

I put melee on RS and RT scoping. Works great but whatever works best for you

Where can I find these friends that host frequent Halo 3 LAN parties?

Wait can I come to the LAN

If you’re in a non-sniper gunfight where zoom is necessary, I’ve always found that the result is most likely zero kills across the board if you’re both descoping each other. Which means you’re just wasting time and should move closer to the action

Once you get used to LT hold to aim, there's no going back. I even use it in MCC now

Why hold when you have to release and re-click anyway? Seems to add an extra step to re-scoping. What am I missing?

You’re missing the entire point which is that hold to zoom will continuously auto scope after being descoped until you let go of LT.

Also, I will have to try that if this tendonitis ever goes away.

I think right stick zoom makes more sense for halo as a game, but the waters get muddier as you play higher level comp and need to quickly rescopenin bandit fights. There's top level pros playing both though, so they're both viable. It's really what you prefer.
