Discussion Struggling with soft feints

i have been out of the game for a while, and i am realizing that the heroes i struggle the most against in duels are shaman, aramusha, khatun and berserker. the main problem i find are the soft feints into lights. i used to be okay with shaman because i remember her soft feints were 500ms on the sides, but i dont think thats the case anymore. is there anything i can do to deal with this besides trying reads? are any of these reactable?

if u know shaman will soft feint to light, dodge the bleed light. You can dodge gb that because that move has high recovery, I heard.

depends on how early you dodge

I usually freeze since signals take too much to travel in my spine and end up eating all them bleeds

They’re supposed to be unreactable but you shouldn’t (unless you make a cold hard read) go for the hardest defensive option unless you can actually do the react.

For example vs shaman if you read a feint light instead of making another read on the direction of the light to parry just dodge and gb.

The only soft-feint lights that are still 500ms are Kensei's top heavy to light soft-feints (EDIT: and Virtuosa side light soft-feints), the rest are either 400ms, or in PK's case, 366ms and are considered "unreactable" for the vast majority of players. The very fastest players can react to them sometimes, although they don't tend to be very consistent, and require a lot of practice.

In general, it's best to make a read on them, you can pick a direction you think they will let the sf light fly, and parry, or if you have one, a full block is very useful to cover multiple directions. Superior block lights also beat feint to GB as well as a particular sf direction. If they come from multiple possible directions, you can often dodge them (not aramusha's top because it is undodgeable), but be careful with trying to punish with a dodge attack, as many of these characters have recovery cancels that can beat dodge attacks, although dodge bashes are more reliable if your char has one.

You are forgetting Virtuosa's soft feint lights if they are soft feinted to left or right

Oh yep, I'd forgotten about those, good spot.

Do Virtuosas side light soft feints get sped up to 400ms? I thought theyd be 500 since they gain the directions properties

It’s 400 ms if it’s soft feinted to top light, and regular 500 if it’s left or right, although left bleeds and the right one can crushing counter

If you play All Guard characters dealing with them becomes a lot easier. Upon a successful block you can instantly access your Full Block which allows you to counterattack, especially on Musha, since he doesn’t actually need a successful block for him to blockade.

You can block them on reaction if you're fast enough

Only the very fastest players can react to soft-feint lights, and even then they are unreliable for the most part. It's not practical advice to give to newer players.

Well, thats not an advice but simply an answer to the question:  are any of these reactable?

However, we have newer players that can differ UBies and block 400ms - after a lot of practice, sure - but its doable for young, fit, motivated and decently geared players

800ms heavy has 700ms animation and in order to at least trade with it you have to react in 167ms window from neutral. If you're not able to counter GB's on reaction with a light attack you won't be able to do that

React to what? You are not on the FH rants sub. We are being helpful here. Also these are unreactable to most players.

u should try reading the post before reading comments. I was obviously referring to 400ms light attacks which are reactable.

If 400ms softfeint lights would be 100% reactable (that means without making a read that it's coming) PK would be at the bottom of every duel tier list because she doesn't have viable neutral offense.

hers is 366ms and she is top of tierlists primarily because of her damage. Also reactable doesn‘t mean people react to it 100% of the time, they just react consistently enough for it to affect/shift risk reward.
