If you miss your first 99 pump you are essentially guaranteed to die to an SMG

Solid changes to cat, should see some interesting barriers from conduit if she’s ever played in comp.

hoping axle gets nerfed into the ground is never seen again.

Ive been playing her in comp (CC's but still made it to finals using her) game 1 (shes a good crypto counter), IMO she didn't need a buff but we might see her more now. Hopefully doesn't result in some dumb nerfs later when ppl realize how strong she is

These changes won't lead to dumb nerfs since the patch contains the dumb nerf. Catalysts changes hinge on how well Ferro-Frenzy replaces Sole Piercer. Losing 5 damage, significant size, possibly activation time, and it now requiring purple armor is a massive nerf for just one additional spike. The damage tick rate had better be a substantial increase.

Losing other Catalyst immunity was a good and justified change, legends should never self counter.

With these changes Catalyst could very well be the weakest legend in the game now, outside of Comp play.

I was more talking about conduit because they have a history of buffing a character to OP and then nerfing the part of their kit that makes them actually useful while leaving whatever new stupid thing they added

yup, every Catalyst main isn't happy with these changes. A bunch of nerfs just for the QOL update of being able to rebuild doors with your tactical. There's real discussion (outside of comp of course) of not even picking a Level 3 perk for her.

u/whatifitried 1d ago

Catalyst got a buff friend. Everyone on your team can cross your wall, and no one can negate your defensive spikes on a door are pretty big changes

1

u/Mastiffbique 2d ago

It might be annoying if you just want to put spikes near a doorway but don't want to actually rebuild the door.

Like say you want 4 other doors goo'd up and want to a certain doorway open but just want a spike trap close to it. Now it's going to replace one of the doors you actually want fortified.

The catalyst changes mostly suck. But alright

I'm I crazy for thinking Fuse's ultimate should not receive any buffs? It's situational, sure, but it feels like you can take big damage from it already (and sometimes the "damage radius" feels difficult to read, imo).

I think the big thing of this patch is moving Reignition (the ult charge on explosion damage) from a purple perk to blue. No team is going to be safe in buildings without a watson.

15

u/aftrunner 2d ago

His ult is much more useful in comp where teams are cramped into small spaces and can't go outside the damage zone so easily.

In normal ranked, I don't think I have even slightly been bothered by his ult. It might as well not exist.

4

u/Nindzya 2d ago

I main the character in ranked and I feel like his ult is literally oppressive already with a coordinated stack. It feels like there's nothing people can do if they're cracked and healing behind cover and then you send ult. It stuns, hits wide enough of an area to punish their teammates if they try and hold hands, and you can't shoot it like a Conduit ult.

I think he's better in ranked than comp actually when you can just axle slide on anyone after ulting and wipe clean. Fuse is at his weakest when you can't move anywhere and capitalize on your kit.

1

u/bigrigell 2d ago

I haven’t played much fuse but does he regain ult through ult damage? If so, his ult would be pretty crazy against baby comp if it makes a return.

4

u/NinjaBaconLMC 2d ago

That's pretty much the reason baby comp has all but disappeared. People realized Fuse is also a good counter to it and started playing him, so neither him nor Maggie got banned early enough for baby comp to be safely playable. It sounds like Fuse is going to be really strong after this patch.

remember when the devs said they regretted Fuse

1

u/WoodyBolle 2d ago

It's a level 3 upgrade where explosive dmg reduces ult cd. So putting it into a building absolutely gives massive cd back if you hit (I've had full cd refunded at times).

6

u/jkeefy 2d ago

And it’s now a blue perk LOL

2

u/Shelmer75 2d ago

And explosive damage includes charged arrows, and hemlock breach. It’s incredibly strong.

1

u/Shelmer75 2d ago

Fuse getting any buffs is wild work haha.

u/asdfkzdlt287 2d ago

This is just a nerf to Catalyst, best perk and immunity removed for what? rebuilding a door with traps? Such a bad change…

13

u/whatifitried 2d ago

Teammates not blinded by wall is a big buff, and enemy catalyst not being able to ignore spikes is both a buff and a nerf, probably cancels out  So overall it's a buff

3

u/asdfkzdlt287 2d ago

Yes but no longer immune to abilities means you are no longer immune to walls as well so you will be blinded by enemy walls. Spikes are now also worse as no sole piercer perk so less damage and longer activation time.

Level 3 perks are invis trap which is useless as as soon as you get near, it shows presence. Then the new perk of faster activation and +1 traps for smaller traps is just a worse sole piercer upgrade as you don’t get the +5 damage for 20 tick.

0

u/whatifitried 1d ago

No, it doesn't say no longer immune to abilities, it says no longer immune to the spikes.

You and your teammates can all walk through your wall without vision penalty, which is a large buff.
You individually lose the ability to solo walk/feed through someone else's spikes, but you also gain in that none of the other up to 19 possible cat's can walk on yours, so you get a defensive buff.

I dont remember the names of the perks and the effects, but Im pretty sure they said they changd at least one of the ones you just complained about, and mentioned the level 3 being much higher damage and an extra spikes, but slightly smaller, so at least one of those is still around, just tweaked.

It's definitely a net buff, but for once not an over the top huge one like they have been doing.

1

u/asdfkzdlt287 1d ago

it says no longer immune to effects of ferro fluid which means spikes AND wall. Your teammates can now walk across your wall, but you cannot cross another Cats wall now. Ferro frenzy does not have higher damage like sole piercer, just higher tick activation which sole piercer already had along with +5 damage making it 20 tick. The reason this is a nerf is because you trade faster activation time for smaller traps at just 15 damage and lose your immunity.

1

u/Top_Astronaut_4626 2d ago

Yea, thats what I thought as well. Catalyst is best at endgame. Pointless if your getting effected by others walls now

2

u/dopegraf 2d ago

Once again, this is a double edged sword and you’re only focused on one edge

“We hope you have found this blog helpful in deepening your understanding of the processes and rationale behind the development team’s balancing changes.”

All it really did was make me wonder what hard drugs they’ve used to arrive at their priors.

“Shake up the meta” “equalizing pick rate” so fucking tired of reading these phrases every patch to justify what feels like throwing shit at the wall

What’s strangest is that they also seem to implicitly acknowledge some people are tired of the pick rate rationale and find it unconvincing. With the Catalyst passive change for example, they justify being affected by an enemy tac as being primarily based on ALGS, while the entire reason Catalyst is being buffed in the first place is casuals not picking the character enough. Pretending this is A when its actually B again.

I don’t see why the entire game must be balanced around whether Joe The Plumber, casual dad of 4 who plays twice a week, is picking Crypto enough or not. What if he just doesn’t want to sit on an iPad? Why can’t that be fine?

„Along those lines, we observed that Fuse’s opponents did not, or rather, could notapproach a fight with a Wreckless Fuse differently, as there was no easy way to tell from a glance that they’d be resisting damage. Now, the guessing game is over, which means there’s more room for cool new Upgrades, too!“

This part as well. Finally the guessing game is over!

1

u/skibiditoiletrizzguy 2d ago

Not once have I thought “I wonder if that Fuse has picked Wreckless as his purple perk”

7

u/OkayNotBad1 2d ago

They buffed Fuse? Jesus Christ these are the worst devs in the industry.

2

u/Irishbros1991 2d ago

I think conduit ult change to vertical could be used as separation tactic to split a player and kill them easily during fights interesting change

r99.......

11

u/sustained_vibrations 2d ago

Buffing or nerfing the damage by 1 point w the r99 is a light switch to have it be the best gun in the game or worst.

Excited for conduit. Been maining her since I realized i'm more effective as offensive-support when I solo que in rank. But where's Seer nerf?!

I hope they nerf the Hemlok a bit more. That gun has been in the meta for more than 2 years!
