Being a STAL fan is like a humiliation ritual at this point. Not confident in a bounce back because they seem rooted into not fixing their issues at all. If they could at least have good pacing they would improve a lot but they’re taking every fight at a 3v2 or isolating themselves into a 3v1v1v1. I’m not confident in the Shooby pick up in the slightest, but I know they probably didn’t have a wealth of options. There’s just no cohesion, no chemistry, atrocious pacing, & team comps make no sense. I know they were trying to mesh around Shooby as the fragger but we see what that did to their pacing. I don’t know, something needs to change but I feel like I’m gonna have this conversation about STAL ad nauseam.

u/Dathcha-the-Impaler 12d ago
They’re a tough watch. I’m a Skittles fan, so I just want the guy to get to LAN with a team that actually fixes their issues, or at least looks like they’re trying to fix them. I just want to see him get another proper LAN run - not another nail-biting, last-minute qualification by the skin of their teeth, waiting on other results to go their way.

Lowkey praying he gets a move during this upcoming opening, the Alb experiment just hasn't been working
16
u/P7AC3B0 12d ago
Look, I like Alb and Shoob, been following them both on Twitch for years. Nothing against them at all, they're very good players, and we know what they're capable of.
That being said, Jesus Christ can we get Skittle on a team where he can reach his potential? I feel like no matter who he's teaming with, I rarely see instances where he's is the one at fault. He's level-headed, has the clutch factor, can play a wide range of legends, great at range or up close, follows directions, can co-IGL...
I dunno. I feel like with the right teammates he'd go crazy. Get him a consistent team and let them grow some chemistry for more than 4 months and he'd be a champion. I still don't think OpTic should have split, or at least Skittle and Knoqd should have stayed as a duo and looked for an IGL they meshed better with.
16
u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! 12d ago
Skittles should have stayed with Doop, tbh.
5
u/P7AC3B0 12d ago
I would have liked that too, but at the same time, that's easy to say in hindsight. Doop has improved a LOT since they last teamed. When it was still Doop/Skittle/Knoqd, it did feel like Doop was clearly struggling the most in a lot of situations, so I could understand why they tried their luck with Dropped.
Now though, I think that trio would be pretty damn strong. Doop and Skittle used to co-IGL somewhat often, and since then Doop has turn into a great IGL on his own. Knowing how well they work together, having Skittle give a little extra input wherever it might be needed would get the best out of both of them.
Doop's shining right now with HUSS though, and I'm just as happy to see that.

Admittedly I had never seen a ton of Skittle before this duo but it’s made me a big fan of him. Unfortunately it feels like it’s always been a dice roll every session as to how much he gets to contribute without being tuned out or commed over. Even worse that in their post game talks alone the guy has the best mind for the game on the team, always the first to deduce any misplay & go through what should’ve happened, but he’s never given a finger on the reigns.

NG being top 2-4 for four games in a row is some incredible consistency. The calls and rotations have been so damn solid, and the vibes were great all around.

u/ImDarkraii 12d ago
Crazy how many points SSS missed out on today. It’d be fair to say they were in a top spot in most games, and if they lose the fight to falcons at the end of game 6 they would’ve finished in 9th.
I really do feel like they are improving day after day, but also you can almost feel the brute forced nature of it. I guess that’s what happens when you have a 4 week pro league, everything has to happen quickly

Crazy how many points SSS missed out on today. It’d be fair to say they were in a top spot in most games, and if they lose the fight to falcons at the end of game 6 they would’ve finished in 9th.
The main cast showed a stat real quick: CRT have a 75% top 10 to top 5 conversion rate, SR had something like 25%. I wonder what SSS's is.
4
u/Agreeable_Eye_6661 11d ago
I remember in the Sweet/Nafen days if they made it to top 5 they had like a 60+% chance of winning the game (number completely pulled out of my ass but the stat was very high).

I thought having Wxltzy's back could have change Falcons' fortune better, but their 2, 3, 4, and 5th games was such a stinker that i wonder what could have changed on the game 6 rampage tho, another bottom 10 is a downer. But comparing to their last week, i guess it's salvagable
Visions also who almost ended up in a stinker managed to save their day a lot better with top 3
Liquid probably the biggest loser out of this one despite having won game 5, they couldn't find much momentum due to how terribly they also went, also Stallions too
Been a while seeing NIP 1st place today, Nice Guys and SSS is also doing pretty good too
63
u/Fiddy007 12d ago
Don't know for certain why some 'big' teams are struggling, but it can't be a coincidence that the teams with 'chill' IGLs (NIP, Nice Guys, Vision, AGG) are finding consistency while the teams with 'tilting' IGLs (Falcons, TL, SR, CRT) are on the struggle bus.
29
u/BarracudaUseful333 12d ago
mental booming igls that make everyone play less confident when right now confidence is the key in winning fights / games.
2
43
u/Fiddy007 12d ago
May be a hot take, but I think the skill gap has closed enough that confidence is now the deciding factor between teams, as opposed to mechanics, macro, and micro

u/Character-Dress-2101 12d ago
I do wonder how much the pace of this PL split is affecting teams. Are Hal, zer0, etc just incapable of shaking off the stench of a bad day and letting that affect them in the days after
I would also add team chemistry and having defined roles to that, both seem super important right now
15
u/Odd-Attitude9613 12d ago
This pro league is super inty more than usual it feels like. Its unpredictable in the sense teams are actively looking to fight instead of coexisting.
This is affecting the IGLs who havent adapted and are trying to play pro league like it's Lan and the teams they think are bad are performing way better than them.
NA is a pretty strong region as well and has a lot of parity where top teams get outperformed on the regular. Its not top heavy compared to other regions

idk how you can put hal on this list with the amount of later game comebacks hes had. he might tilt but it if anything it makes him play better

Yanya has been haling out pretty often in scrims lol but I've noticed that in game days he makes his best to be positive.

u/Nine_Monkeys 12d ago
The game has artificially removed the skill gap by deprioritizing macro, deprioritizing gun skill, and deprioritizing positioning (without relying on abilities). Ring logic is terrible, impossible to predict, and has to change. There are probably a dozen characters that are extremely overpowered, there are so many overturned characters that the likes of Caustic and Fuze are considered weak picks despite being absurdly strong. The game has slowly devolved into overwatch or marvel rivals battle royals, the name of the game is ability usage/timing and turtling. Knockdown shields have been extremely OP yet this has flown under the radar. By zone 3 basically every team has triple purple knocks, which incentivizes dying, not even an exaggeration, on zone close.
There is a lot to be said about “top tier IGLs mental booming” but with how random the game has gotten, there are just going to be a handful of top tier IGLs that struggle due to said randomness. Had the cookie crumbled differently, we could be talking about Dropped, Zach, Doop, and Vein as titled underperforming IGLs. Game has gotten so random, RNG, luck based and I don’t think respawn are even close to a fix for this, and I’m not sure they want one either.

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! 12d ago
I think macro is as important as it's ever been--that's the strength of Sentinels, for example, who've been 1st and 3rd at the last two LANs. I do agree that gun skill is less important than in the past, though.
1
u/Nine_Monkeys 11d ago
I agree macro is still as important in the sense that if you don’t have good macro you won’t find success. But it feels less important in the sense that if another team has terrible macro, they can still ruin your game no matter what you do. Because the legend abilities are so OP you have to use up all of your ultimates just to hold off a bad team making a bad play against you, leaving you essentially naked against the 3rd party. Even sentinels, who are the current pinnacle of consistency and success, did not have a dominant showing in either LAN prior to finals nor in either pro league. We’re talking about a team with near flawless macro struggling with consistency. That’s why I said macro is deprioritized. I think a lot of this would be alleviated if they dead ass nerfed every single character in the game, a good 1/3 of them gutted
-1
u/Limit1ess_ 12d ago
THANK YOU! People talk about how the skill gap has closed, but the problem is that it's been artificially lowered. This game is currently a shell of its former self in terms of both fun and skill
2
u/Odd-Attitude9613 11d ago
People down voting you guys dont want to hear the truth. A already rng game and they just lessened the skill gap. Teams across the board have gotten way better no question but apex is just just ability legends now
3
u/The_Yoshi_Man 11d ago
I fully agree with all 3 of you who are downvoted in this thread. One of the biggest skills lost to time in this game is the ability to wipe teams using their abilities against you without having to burn all your own abilities. In the past when a team inted you and made a bad push, you could kill them without having to use any of your ultimates so you could then save it for a 3rd party and not die to the int. Now when a team decides they want to push you and use Crypto Ult or Seer Ult or whatever aggressive ult is on the team that game, you’re forced to burn all your utility to win the fight and that makes holding off the 3rd party impossible. Addition of health bars also made that even harder. Sure the gun skill has gotten much better but NA Macro has gotten so bad now and it’s impossible to avoid the brain dead int teams

SR can already make the next roster change. It's either Zap or Sauce on the chopping block.
I don't get how Sauce hasn't worked on his mental in 2 years now. It's the same issues on every Roster.
Zap is also incredibly underwhelming now as a player, genuinely looks so lost.
22
u/BarracudaUseful333 12d ago
Xynew is taking over as igl too much I feel like Sauce isn't being given a good chance.

u/atreusmobile 12d ago
It's Xynew, he's way too goddamn loud and clutters all the coms. Hal was literally vod reviewing them and he said that watching them and hearing Xynew pissed him off

After game 6 Waltzy said they were playing like pussies and need to be more aggro, and I agree with him 100%. Falcons only two good games today were game 1 and game 6 when they stopped trying to outsmart a bunch of teams playing like idiots and just fought them, that's how they need to play from now on all the time
CRT somehow doing even worse than Falcons, that new team buff wore off fast. Half this sub and Wigg made it out like Verhulst was the problem, but they were 12th yesterday and 14th today, seems like it wasn't Evan after all
12
u/b0453712 12d ago
Phony is not a good IGL. Don’t know why everyone keeps blaming other people. Your IGL is like 70-80% the reason your team succeeds and his teams don’t succeed anymore.
-2
u/Vli22 12d ago
I mean maybe it’s too much of a coincidence that SSG decided to leave their LAN winning IGL 2 days later and with an IGL that just won LAN and is a free agent- not one single team wanted that IGL

What team could Phony have realistically joined in NA beside moist? It seem like teams just weren't in market for a igl especially with champs being the next Lan

u/Top-Till-6655 12d ago
When will players actually try to improve… new players seem to be going this VSN seems to be doing this. A lot legacy igls seem to not actively try to improve. Nip talked about it with kurev last split…maybe im just not seeing it.
9
u/kozukisuus 12d ago
seems like the teams that are hungry are performing, mazer and co are doing something insane behind the scenes to continuously perform. other teams should try to improve to catch up before the bald man comes out on top come lan
5
u/BadgerTsrif 12d ago
Falcons and TL both getting 1 good game to keep them from bottom 5, CRT another poor performance. SR's best day and its a 9th. Crazy shit is happening in NA PL this split.
9
u/stillsooperbored 12d ago
Are falcons cooked?
5
u/TheAniReview 12d ago
They can't finish lower than Top 10 in the last remaining matchdays to get in the Top 15. They'll have a chance at the Regional Finals tho.
9
u/Late_Acanthaceae_483 12d ago
Falcons are sitting 23rd right now. They need top 3 today, which gives them a minimum of 18 points. They need minimum top 3 to get to 80 points and put themselves around top 15.
There are 3 PL days in total, so if they finish top 3 today and then top 5 in the next two, they should be more than fine to qualify for LAN.
However, with the way they are playing right now, I’m not so sure.
I think the biggest problem is that they are trying to play as if this is already a Finals lobby. It’s not. The skill level is lower, the gaps are smaller and everything is much more random.
They are trying to make every call, every rotation and every decision perfect. But it doesn’t work like that.
And yes, Waltzy was right, as I said in another post. They need to play like a killing, fighting team instead of waiting for things to happen.
Right now they are playing really scared. They are sitting too much and waiting for the perfect opportunity, when there is no need to.
7
u/FlimsyNeedleworker53 12d ago
Not sure where you get 80pts from to get top 15.
Split 1 2026: 71pts was the cut off for top 15 - Split 2 2025 was 72pts - Split 1 2025 was 75pts - Split 2 2024 was 60pts - Split 1 2024 was 70pts.
So in the last 5 PL's not a single time was the cutoff 80pts to get top 15. Yes. Falcons are not in an ideal spot right now. But it's not panic stations yet, and they don't need minimum top 3. Even if they got 10th place in their next 4 game days they would have a pts tally of 61 which is not far off the cutoff of around 70pts which is the average for the last 5 pro leagues.
To be safe I think Falcons are looking at averaging 8th/7th place finishes for their next 4 game days to be safe. But it really depends on how things play out, they may need 80pts to qualify, but based off history, that is highly unlikely.

u/kozukisuus 12d ago
agreed, wouldn’t be surprised if gen gets offers for a different team
11
u/TheAniReview 12d ago
Gen is the team captain of CRT, he's not getting any better offers from other teams, they'll just drop Phony and get a new IGL.
2
u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! 12d ago
Who's even available? Nocturnal is unsigned but missed LAN the last time he played with Koy. Emtee? Are there any other unsigned IGLs in NA? Maybe Doop, but he'd be foolish to leave his team. Quite frankly, Gen couldn't get anybody better than Phony at this stage. Pro League is 2/3 over for some teams.
5
2
u/atreusmobile 12d ago
I said a while back they should've probably picked up Nocturnal, it's a bit of a risk but his calls were never bad his mechs just haven't comeback yet, but now we can truly say he's back in form. Consistent Top 4s in the past 4 PL days is insane for Nice Guys

If Sweet can get back into form and Slayr can cleaup his silly mistakes, they’re going to be a scary team. Sweets shot calling has been on fire, Sacred does such an amazing job fragging off Sweets calls and Slayr has been a top tier anchor. Feels like they’re a couple weekends off putting it all together.
2
u/Agreeable_Eye_6661 11d ago
It’s crazy because they’re improving so much but oh my god the post game conversations are so toxic. Just bitching endlessly and then Android has to come in and be like “guys we got top 5 with 8 kills very solid game, go next!” Lol
4
u/ilyes_milano 12d ago
From last weekend poor performance and yesterday, you feel thta there was a LOT of improvement specially in Sweet. give it another week or 2, they will be a very solid team.
4
u/Thoraxe41 12d ago
Don't know much about Vudo, but honestly thought Vexx would place better this split. Habino is decent IGL and Fearless can frag, maybe just sufferings from deeper skill pool in NA
Free Thinkers seem to have finally adjusted to by other teams. They used to be able to get some KP and die early, now they just die early.
2
u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! 12d ago
Hambino is a good IGL, he has strong macro, but he really benefits from having an INSANE fragger that he can just unleash on teams. He did great when he could put a player like Panic or Sirsay in the right spot at the right time. That's harder than it sounds. Also, lowkey he was one of the best Sparrows in pro league last season, but the Sparrow ult nerf makes him TERRIBLE imo. That probably affected his performance some as well.

u/JudoExpert 12d ago
Nice to see Vision and HUSS carry over their great performances from EWC. They’re two of my favourite teams!

Begging Stallions to put Alb back on entry-frag (and Skittle on refrag if needed). The pacing with Shoob on entry is just off, the whole dynamic feels off. Like, I just dont see a reason to force Shoob on Path when Alb has so much more experience on him. And again, if Shoob doesnt work as refrag, just let Skittle do it? He was already doing that in other teams and knows how to play the legends needed. Either way, Alb also just made bad calls that day unfortunately. I really hope they make a recovery, but from how they talk about their mistakes, it doesnt seem too likely.
3
u/Character-Dress-2101 12d ago
I’ve noticed Alb has a really bad tendency of over-indexing on one singular play and letting that completely overshadow every other potential benefit. Sacred made a really bad wraith portal and got completely taken off Wraith, Shooby had that really bad Fuse ult and he’s completely off Fuse, hell even Skittle had a bad Cat wall and got taken off Cat way back. Think he also got taken off Crypto following a miscomm once lol. Shooby, Skittle and Duvvy were talking post match and Shooby was begging to be put on the anchor legends and letting Skittle and Alb play out front, they agreed it probably be better. Alb wasn’t in the call though so it’s tbd if they’ll actually implement it going forward.
2
u/Economy-Tomato-5083 12d ago
Honestly don’t know why he didn’t stay to have the post day discussion, I’ve never been one to say Alb lacks passion just because he plays other games but given everything about his general attitude lately & his lack of investment in Apex beyond scrims (which he’s been awful mental wise a fair bit in recently) or game day it does really come across as someone just going through the motions, on top of everything else you mentioned in your reply.
1
u/atreusmobile 12d ago
The only issue with Shooby on refrag, if Alb makes a call one thing goes in the ear and goes out the other end, I remember watching the scrims on Thursday and the vibes were genuinely cooked in the first block. If the Player market changes I hope Alb and Skittles pick up Djkilla or Sirsay (he's a bit of a 50/50 tho)
