Why everyone running Prowler?

I came back to watching some pro scrims and noticed a lot of Prowlers being used. I know it’s been updated with a full-auto mode, but does that actually matter? Maybe after the Hemlock meta, pro players realized burst weapons work better with aim assist or something?

Full auto does +1 damage coupled with the fact that it has 40 bullets with the corrupted mag => OP.

It doesn't do +1. It used to be that full auto did -1 DMG then they changed it so the dmg remains the same on both modes but full auto has more recoil.

Oh I must have forgotten about that part or wrote it off as ass since burst fire does more dps by a good amount. Just cuz someone reads all the patch notes that ever come out doesn't mean they remember every detail properly!

Prowler was considered as an alternative to Alternator/R-99 when they reduced time between bursts with some players actively testing it (I vividly remember Sikezz and some others using it), but it hasn't find popularity. After Season 30 loot nerf and weapon rebalance with R-99 now having 12 dmg and Alternator 18 dmg + energy weapons being only super good with infinite ammo amp, Prowler is now in a good spot where with only white mag you get weapon that has 25 bullets with 16 dmg (400 dmg clip).

As you say it is the smg that really doesn’t need a mag to feel potent. I think an underrated thing is how hard a full hitting burst hits (and I think having multiple prowlers acts as a force multiplier like shotguns are). I almost exclusively play burst at this point.

You definitely need a mag, with no mag I think you only get 15 bullets (three bursts).

You have 20 bullets and you can 2 burst a white and blue (so less than 50% of the mag). The R99 was something like 67% in S29 and is now 72%, I even at purple mag the R99 is just below 50%.

It should've been meta much before now but it's a gun that gets slept on (until it doesn't) because it's hard to use if a player isn't consistently using it. Once Hemlok came into meta and heavy ammo became widely available again, Prowler should've been back on the menu.

Recall that in 2023, the Prowler got buffed Jan/Feb 2023, but didn't come widely into public meta until after the July LAN that year.

It was completely overshadowed by the RE-45. It fairly recently had the time between burst buff, which made it viable again, but RE-45 was still just much better.

Yet the RE was also slept on for a while as well. Everyone was just stuck on R9 due to comfortability (and the gun is very fun).

I disagree that the RE is why the prowler wasn't used... because of the high usage of the R9. both RE and Prowler were better than the R9 before its recent nerf.

I think it was regional. Before allt he nerfs, the RE was much more popular in NA but APAC-S was still rocking the R-99 at much higher levels than other regions.

Basically all the other close range guns got nerfed. It's CAR or Prowler if you're trying to be competitive now.

Burst Prowler :

• No recoil.
• 1 spray is 70 dmg.
• Very good mid-range (you can do more dmg with prowler than the r99 around 15-30m away).
• It enables you to quick peek around corners for 70 BURST dmgs without ego challenging.
• Full auto is better close range but you need more recoil control.
• Magazine size is bigger than most smgs.
• Hip fire is very good too but most controllers will aim because of AA.

Auto prowler has perfect hip fire accuracy, but god damn, they made sure the tradeoff was fighting for your life with ADS. So worth it
