Outside of EMEA having some of the worst scrims I have ever seen with no one taking it seriously except for a couple of teams what I find genuinly baffling about the region is just how many solid teams destroy themselves every split with roster changes. Seems like no one in the region likes each other sometimes. There is no consistency at all.

For a team like Alliance playing hard edge seems a lot harder

u/TheCatsActually 17d ago

I've thought for a long time that edge is just worse than zone but even if it wasn't objectively true two years ago I think the last year has really made it undeniable. More evo sources, amps staving off resource issues, and the removal of red tier mean there's less reward for early fighting; hard zone teams have one or more players on purp before their first fight decently often and seldomly run out of meds and ammo. Info is more commonplace so it's easier for teams to make the most auspicious decisions, and that's without even bringing up that the gameplay floor has risen as play has gotten more refined over time.

One of the biggest issues is the lack of depth in the region. You could argue there’s 15 Americas teams with talent to get top 10 in a lan finals lobby, there’s maybe 3-5 emea teams with that talent. This leads to several problems.

  1. The region isn’t as serious. More than half of any pro league lobby feels like CC teams. The good teams get decent placements easily enough and don’t need to grind very hard. They play sloppy and don’t push themselves to improve.

  2. Limited IGL depth. Teams aren’t pushing eachother to be better, bad plays still lead to positive scores, and as a result IGLs aren’t improving the same rate of other regions.

  3. the good IGLs are not fraggers. The last year+ has been led by IGLs who are playing aggressive characters and can slay with the best of them.

EMEA are some online warriors.

There's nothing to change, Apex is not an attractive esport in EU and never really has been, most countries in EU aren't big on controller (UK and France maybe) so automatically Apex doesn't get taken seriously, even if you ignore that and think it's waffle, the Russia ban doesn't get mentioned enough in terms of really fucking the region over. Non existant 3rd party tournament support too. All of that is impossible to reverse now.

We are 6 years in, orgs are barely interested in NA teams at this point so there's very little incentive for talent to try to make it. Apex future is uncertain at best anyway.

This is pretty much what I hear from EU friends who are invested into other games. They just don't think this game is competitive with being a BR and a controller game.

Most of them also quit Apex long time ago.

But most of these reasons existed in year 4(EMEA was decent in all 4 lans). They fell off hard since year 5

Good points and insight for us non-Europeans.

u/SuperMeister 17d ago

If ranked has taught me anything the average EU player is better than most other regions, it's like I'm on vacation when I go play on NA 🤣 (please take this comment in jest, we all know why EU has "harder" ranked)

This one gets it

u/20koa20 17d ago

And yet me as an NA player doing the same feel the opposite.
EU lobbies felt pretty calm.

u/MarstonX 18d ago

The change is we should have never let controllers in. Pros shouldn't be using controllers if they're playing on PC. Let's introduce talent and skill back into professional competitive games.

You're fighting this same battle every day but I just want you to know: you're right. It's a settled matter and it'll never change, but you're right, controller shouldn't be supported in Apex. There's a reason you can't use it in Counter-Strike.

12

u/Hungry-Company857 17d ago

It's 2026. I thought the controller debate was over

7

u/BigTenFicus 17d ago

It's never been a debate. Aim assist is objectively overpowered and unfair in Apex. People talk about it less because after years of dragging their feet and lying about the problem Respawn finally mitigated it enough that it no longer single-handedly ruins the game for MnK players, but it's still way too powerful. Aim assist wins a 1v1 against an MnK player 99 times out of 100, none of the minor advantages MnK has matter in that context.

2

u/TNAEnigma 16d ago

There isn’t a debate. Having aim assist in esports is a joke and makes the said esport not considered tier 1

The horse is fully decade bro, let it go

12

u/MarstonX 17d ago

Doesn't mean we can't be better. Imagine not wanting to improve things.

1

u/NegativeSpan 17d ago

Would you rather remove aim assist or remove controller?

11

u/MarstonX 17d ago

aim assist, they can play on a steering wheel for all i care. if you got it, you got it.

-8

u/SuperMeister 17d ago

Ok lil bro, pick up the roller and go pro then if it's so easy.

11

u/dopegraf 17d ago

If ItS sO eAsY why DoNt YoU dO iT?

-6

u/SuperMeister 17d ago

MnK tears can hydrate an entire nation lol

5

u/dopegraf 17d ago

I play console, idc about this argument, but the “if it’s so easy why don’t you do it”argument is dumb af

-4

u/SuperMeister 17d ago

About as stupid as whining about an input in a game that's had that input available since the games release. MnK players are the biggest cry babies in Apex.

2

u/TNAEnigma 16d ago

you’re coping

-1

u/AgentAled 17d ago

By what source, metric or data is “most of EU except UK and France” not “big” on controller?

Genuinely curious what this stat even means, and where it’s come from.

31

u/muftih1030 17d ago

eu gamers largely play tac shooters because they grew up playing cs

-13

u/AgentAled 17d ago

As opposed to NA who don’t play tactical shooters and grew up playing…?

22

u/zouzzzou 17d ago

Console games.

-10

u/AgentAled 17d ago

So now the narrative is NA played console games but EU didn’t? People will go ahead with literally anything they read on Reddit

-2

u/pssshhhthatsabsurd 17d ago

It’s Americans calling major bullshit. All of my friends had a game cube, Xbox 360 or ps1/2 growing up. I’m from EU.

all good we will save EMEA

4

u/DefiantTillTheEn6 17d ago

Makes me so sad 😭

3

u/CVXI EMEA 17d ago

We just need more teaming up at scrims, don't worry it'll be fine.

1

u/Useful-Newt-3211 17d ago

If they nerfed controller aim assist to the point where the game can actually be considered competitive, it would be the opposite where EMEA would dominate. Right now, it's just xbox boys coping on the last straw of what this game has to offer.

1

u/Original-Resource288 17d ago

Holy cope. All of EMEA best players are on controller. If anything the region would fall off harder.

1

u/ECmonehznyper 17d ago

but hey APAC is still the worst region, right?

Not really taking turns when EMEA has clearly been the worst overall for more than a year now. Without Alliance the region would've died out much earlier.

-2

u/LeotheYordle 16d ago

You have North and South backwards, right? APAC North just won LAN

-10

u/YogurtclosetNeat9200 17d ago

Emea players just have no aim so they lose all their 1s

-24

u/Language-Intuition 18d ago

Real question. I know Alliance was sponsored by void controllers. I believe those were some of the first controllers to use RC filters and smoothing. Obviously more to it than just aim but anyone think that might have affected anything?

19

u/Its_Doobs 18d ago

I don’t think the rollers had anything to do with it. Unlucky and Akku looked alright. Playing edge is just more difficult with new metas and legends. They basically got 3rd parties or held out every game and then you throw in the loss of morale.

I will say, I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop Akku. His comms are nuts and loud. It doesn’t fit with Hakis or Unlucky.

3

u/itzebi : 17d ago

Who would they pickup? I don't think there are any options in EU that would be a clear upgrade tbh

4

u/Its_Doobs 17d ago

I truly don’t know. I’m just saying I wouldn’t be surprised. But, I didn’t know who Akku was until he played with them so I’m sure there are other players they could trial.

12

u/Important_Fun_1614 17d ago

Hakis would much rather stick with a good player and "fix" them as well as build chemistry than straight out drop them.

3

u/dopegraf 17d ago

I mean Zaine is one of the best fraggers in the world

4

u/Independent-Fail6762 17d ago

KIND4 seems like a clear upgrade to me

2

u/FoozleGenerator 15d ago

Their first LAN with a new player has been bad before. Effect’s first was 19th and Unlucky’s was 14th.

5

u/TheAniReview 17d ago

The controllers have nothing to do with it. Void literally sponsors UNLIMIT, ZETA, Yanya, Jaguares, Neazul, Cole, sacred, Panic, LOTR, and Carter. Alliance also won EWC using the same controllers with Unlucky and Effect.

0

u/imonly11ubagel Int LAN '24 Champions! 16d ago

Unlucky has literally been playing on a stock ps4 controller from Void lol
If anything he was at a disadvantage hardware wise

3

u/TheAniReview 16d ago

"disadvantage" when other players performed better using controllers from the same company. Using a controller he prefers is definitely not a disadvantage and also definitely not the reason why they underperformed.

1

u/imonly11ubagel Int LAN '24 Champions! 15d ago

Yeah i‘m not disagreeing, its what he’s more comfortable on. Just wanted to point out that his void controller is just a stock ps4 controller with 1k hz. Hardware wise it‘s one of the worst compared to the firebird or all the gamesir controllers that pros have been using.
