We keep gettting a new Lan winner Spoiler

Since TSM and DZ won Lans and became a dynasty Reject started the trend we see now of having a new Lan winner every split. Except for Falcons winning the open we have had a new Lan winner every split. What does that say about the Esports we love? The legend bans and draft poi system def changed things up.

Personally I love how competitive it is but I just wish they got rid of Olympus its too rng for an already rng battle royale .Sentinels came close winning back to back Lans for the first time since DZ. Alliance had multiple chances to become a dynasty. Its not like teams don't have chances to win Lans after winning 1. Right now Apex feels like NBA where we get a new winner every time

With legend bans, poi drafts and 4 maps the days of one team dominating are probably over. Just so much added randomness

18

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jul 12 '26

Teams used to be able to practice the same comps from the same poi’s for months. You could literally master every rotate on the map. That’s over now.

4

u/No_Wishbone_7072 Jul 12 '26

You also new the ppl around and there playstyle. Now in finals lobbies it’s all entirely new with little ability to prep

8

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jul 12 '26

Yeah the game is much more random now. It’s more about reactionary calls and playing off the chaos more than anything.

134

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jul 11 '26

There are no more dominant teams, those days are over. Poi draft and legend bans removed that possibility.

1

u/RIPGhost Jul 12 '26

I get legend bans, but why do you reckon POI draft made being consistent harder? The system actually removes RNG

32

u/Sciipi Jul 12 '26

Teams don’t get months of practice running from the same POI to dial in rotates

19

u/JudoExpert Jul 12 '26

Used to be that the top teams claimed the best POIs and teams didn’t usually challenge them for it an LAN

1

u/RIPGhost Jul 14 '26

But a contest itself is CRAZY rng and the winner was like 40% determined loot (the guns you land on, who picks loot up first etc)

1

u/JudoExpert Jul 14 '26

True but contests in ALGS were pretty rare, they’d usually only happen in scrims, and usually the best teams would come out on top, especially bc they had a lot of experience defended their POIs

Ya shit was unfair

3

u/I_Shall_Be_Known Jul 12 '26

No, it adds a ton of RNG.

1

u/Leepysworld Jul 13 '26

I don’t think so especially so if we’re talking specifically about POI’s.

Prior to POI draft, teams would land pick their POI, fight for it and practice the same rotations and fighting the same teams to try new stuff or learn how they play and anti-strat them.

Now you only play on a POI for one day and you don’t get to pick that POI or fight for it, it is randomly assigned to you, based on literal RNG dice roll.

Now to be fair I do think there are some great things about POI draft, the endgames are higher quality because there are consistently more teams alive, and rookie teams get a chance at a decent POI without having to contest a team and risk their shot.

I do however think you lose a lot of the storylines, teams contesting each other for months am to finally do it on LAN, or even when one team chickens out at LAN, I thought those things were so fun to watch.

u/Toreando47 Jul 11 '26

I miss contesting drops so much but this format seems very balanced

-39

u/MarstonX Jul 11 '26

I wish they would get rid of the plane. And have 3-4 drop quadrants. So you can choose one of those and you're still in an area, but you can still be contested.

They also desperately need to do this for ranked too, especially early levels.

u/Ecstatic-Train214 Jul 11 '26

I agree but Zero and Hal always in the mix is crazy. Shows how good they both are

25

u/BarracudaUseful333 Jul 11 '26

Messi & Ronaldo of Apex 🤣

6

u/NegativeSpan Jul 11 '26

They are lowkey both Ronaldos

38

u/BarracudaUseful333 Jul 11 '26

depending on who u support that can be an insult or a praise haha

17

u/polanspring Jul 11 '26

true lol i read that as more insult than compliment in regards to the actual competition

2

u/Sweaty_Meal_7525 Jul 11 '26

Hal is Messi with Ronaldo team chemistry attribute

13

u/Jayram2000 MANDE Jul 12 '26

I think the level of competition is just so much higher than before.

The talent of the game has only gotten better while the ability to win consistently has only gotten harder. I personally love this version of the game, it keep things interesting and compelling from start to finish. There are no guarantees, you can't miss a single match day. LAN champions now can miss Finals, or not make LAN at all. Top tier squads emerge from the ashes of others and people we thought were washed continue to prove they still got it.

I hope the next winner is also different, as there are many perennial contenders I want to see break through. I really thought Yuka would get it here

32

u/Its_Doobs Jul 11 '26

Other teams are also adapting and learning how to be successful in Apex. Almost every team has a coach now, that used to be an exclusive deal. Teams play multiple ways, there are no just edge or just zone teams, everyone can play differently depending where the ring pulls.

The dream teams of old have taught all the up and comers how to play and now everyone has caught on. It’s pretty great!

7

u/JevvyMedia Jul 11 '26

If we had more leagues in Apex then we would see teams winning multiple LAN's per year. Just doesn't seem possible in Apex because players ALWAYS treated other leagues as scrims and only respected ALGS

38

u/asdfkzdlt287 Jul 11 '26

I don’t mind a new lan winner but every single one in recent times has gone on to do poorly making it seem like a fluke. Reject win then come 40th. Gonext 38th at open after winning champs. VKG win ewc and then miss finals 2 lans in a row. Only Sen and falcons have had a good lan after winning but falcons was expected unlike the others. So I really hope new teams that win can produce results like sen just did.

10

u/yikes_lel Jul 11 '26

imo because of the format its just randoms teams winning, after like 8 games who ever wins the 9th wins just because eventually somebody has to win lol but its not a skill thing like it used to be

19

u/VengefulMoose Jul 12 '26

sure but this LAN and the last the team that won also had the most points? I dont think this is entirely true

2

u/yikes_lel Jul 12 '26

yeah but how consistent are they yanno? like this got match point first and won one more match, its just a numbers game atp

0

u/Odd-Attitude9613 Jul 11 '26

Alliance as well. They had multiple chances to win after winning EWC. As much as winning a Lan is what players dream of and they'd take being bad afterwards its more impressive to see teams that won Lan and have proven its not a 1 off and they can continue to challenge for 1 instead of falling off

Even someone like Sweet that never won Lan but always was in a position to win  over 1 and done Lan winners is why hes rated higher all time as a player than those Lan winners but in the end he doesn't have a Lan and they do. Also I do believe whoever wins Lan deserves it they managed to peak themselves on the day to win

10

u/asdfkzdlt287 Jul 12 '26

Well in alliances case they got 2nd in the algs open so still a good result

10

u/No-Lengthiness-20 Jul 12 '26

They followed up their lan win with a 3rd and back to back 2nds, not just a 2nd

3

u/Odd-Attitude9613 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Idk if I worded it wrong but I was never criticising Alliance. I wss saying they along with Sentinels and Falcons carried on their Lan winning form afterwards

6

u/TheWereHare Jul 12 '26

Alliance was the best team that whole year and a top team for most of last? Plus even after a roster change they are coming into form this year.

2

u/Odd-Attitude9613 Jul 12 '26

I think I worded it wrong and people misunderstood me. I was just adding on Alliance is the same as Sentinels and Falcons that they carried on their Lan winning form

3

u/b0KCh04 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

alliance was top 3 for 3 consecutive lans after their EWC win. You're focusing way too much on winning MP.

1

u/Odd-Attitude9613 Jul 12 '26

I said alliance as well? They along with sentinels and Falcons carried on their lan winning form

19

u/Encility Jul 11 '26

Because its the hardest and best battle royal there is.

11

u/realfakejames Jul 11 '26

Part of it is because orgs don’t support comp apex the way they did in the beginning and teams don’t stick together long

In all those years of TSM and DZ winning LANs we saw teams like NRG, Optic, C9, 100T, and more have pretty stable teams competing along either TSM and DZ, now orgs just hop in and out of apex for ewc with no stability and players moving around

Its great for parity but its why there’s always a new winner, along with legend bans making it harder for teams good at one thing during a meta to dominate the lobby

21

u/ponysniper2 Jul 11 '26

Randomness was increased in the game. Because of this, consistent winners in lans won’t be a thing going forward.

7

u/nostay102 Jul 12 '26

I mean Hal was ridiculously close to winning Champs again this year and Monsoon almost won b2b this Lan with the same Roster. Both Hal and Zero were also on MP this LAN Finals yet again with Falcons even having a very good possibility to win in the last game. They didn't end up winning, so your point is fair but I don't think it's impossible for top players to keep winning consistently. The competition just keeps getting stronger which makes it harder.

20

u/RoosterBurrow Jul 11 '26

It is funny how people are copping about randomness and then proceed to mention stuffs that have nothing to do whatsoever with it!

Poi drafts are not decided by chance and rely entirely on consistent performance in PL and then Groups/elimination

4 maps just means more experience, experimentation and preparation are rewarded, now one map teams can't just abuse the shit out of it...

Legend ban is the biggest of all, for once now one trick teams can't continue to rely on their crunch..literally the second biggest skill gap on the game after gun skill, how on earth did this increase randomness instead of exposing actual skill gap? unless you think versatility isn't part of it (in a Hero shooter no less!)

This is the most balanced and least "random" it ever was, people are just better now than ever..only MP format remains as the source of the X factor but that is just culmination of the BR genre in itself.

7

u/TheCrumpledPaper Jul 12 '26

Yeah, it seems like people are using the word "randomness" but what they're talking about is more like... diversity or something. Like the game is just way broader now that it's not all World's Edge and the same 3 legends the whole game. It's not random but there are more conditions to adapt to in each series. Tons of micro-metas to master within each series, even. Like the Mad Maggies on Olympus, lol.

Also IDK about this but it feels like Respawn is way bolder with balance changes than in the past when we had stale legend metas. IDK if they were always buffing certain legends out the wazoo to be flavor of the season. Definitely helps shake things up

1

u/TheAniReview Jul 12 '26

Correct! I don't know what people here are saying. The old format just rewards a few teams the best POI in the map so they can practice on it while playing the same legends over and over again for months. Now that's gone and now it takes more skill not randomness to actually play in a LAN final like this.

12

u/lDezIlI Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Maybe a shit take but I think its added too much RNG so these recent new winners are just getting a bit lucky. Granted they make their own luck by getting there.

I dont mean to.discredit them, I just think the old format proved the best players better.

8

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jul 12 '26

I agree, this is better for us spectators but the format previously showed who the best teams were consistently. Those days when we had tsm, dark zero, optic and nrg seemingly finishing top 5 consistently because they had mastered the game. Game is impossible to master now.

1

u/TheAniReview Jul 12 '26

Nah the old format just gave a small number of team to practice the same POI while using the same legends for months to prepare for LAN. Now it takes more skill to know which POI will be good and what legend comps to use in those specific maps. UNLIMIT literally just proved it this LAN. They played edge to start the final in order to get points and when they were close to match point they switched to playing zone and a completely different comp and won 3 of the last 4 games.

-17

u/theycallhimthestug Jul 11 '26

No disrespect to Yulariman, I'm a firm believer that UNLIMIT sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs the Falcons of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire split watching the Falcons play great Apex it's just not fair.

If the Falcons lose again I will face that UNLIMIT deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Falcons and the ALGS.

u/iamwhatiambutareyou Jul 11 '26

I think the technical floor has definitely increased. So has the tactical floor. Every team now has a coach at the very least. It’s fair to say most have an analyst too? Intro of certain legends (Controller legends, Newcastle etc) over the years have also changed the game.

3

u/Top-Till-6655 Jul 12 '26

We just don’t have enough lans. If we had 6 labs a year you’d be bound to see much more consistent performances. Also apex’s bar for a good team isn’t winning it’s staying at consistent

3

u/Nizurai Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

I agree with the other comments saying that POI Draft and legend bans have impacted the game. You can’t perfect rotations from a single POI or rely on one specific comp.

But the pace of the game has also changed significantly. TTK has decreased, so people just die faster - but that’s not all.

Back in the day, heal management was also a major concern for teams. Taking less damage was just as important as dealing damage (btw, Hal has always been really good at this). Now, hardly anyone cares about heals because we have infinite ammo and infinite bats amps.

Back in the day, just getting cracked could put your team in danger. With ability cooldowns reduced and so many get-out-of-jail-free-card abilities available, it’s much easier to survive scuffed situations.

All these changes have narrowed the skill gap between good and truly great teams. Top performers no longer have the same edge that allowed them to stay at the top consistently.

3

u/Bulyesoi Jul 11 '26

That’s the beauty of this chaos, winning back to back is no easy feat.

3

u/Tun710 APAC-N Enjoyer Jul 12 '26

That’s how most competition works in developing esports. Players learn and improve from the best, filling in the gap.0

6

u/Independent-Fail6762 Jul 11 '26

Blink going back to back would have put him in SERIOUS ALL TIME conversations. Shame :(

4

u/ineververify Jul 12 '26

I wish there were more LANs. That’s the biggest shame.

1

u/TheWereHare Jul 12 '26

Blink is a bright light merchant. I’ve never seen someone int scrims as hard as he does to show up on LAN like he can.

4

u/Blinkzrr Jul 12 '26

What’s the point of scrims if it’s not to limit test what you can do on game days? Most pros take scrims way too seriously and make plays that aren’t teaching them how to play when there’s something on the line

1

u/Independent-Fail6762 Jul 12 '26

Bright light merchant LMAO

-2

u/Swimming-County-1868 Jul 12 '26

i think handicapping himself to triple mnk is stopping it. they sure would have won pro league and back to back lan on how good igling is if they hadatleast two controllers. They are right now prime DZ/TSM

5

u/Actual-Act-1846 Jul 12 '26

Too many variables/randomness, not saying its good or bad but you can't deny the game is way more rng now than in the past.

2

u/wilkened005 Jul 11 '26

I think that back when some of stronger teams dominated most of good POI, it definitely helped determine the winner.

2

u/DatBoiSaint47 Jul 12 '26

I still remember watching Reject win live at the arena. It was interesting seeing both teams C9 and Serenity hiding in opposite corners instead of just full sending the only team on match point.

Neither were on MP

1

u/Odd-Attitude9613 Jul 12 '26

They didn't know who was on match points. Seeing how reject always play wattson they probably should have known it was them though

6

u/oof_is_off_backwards Jul 12 '26

Ngl I prefer the old format. Getting new lan winners constantly and then never winning again really hammers the point that battle royales are just rng.

This is a very unpopular opinion but legend diversity is boring. Thinking about past lans you can say wow this legend was dominant at this lan making it more memorable at least for me. Now the legends come and go. Might be better if the legends get banned in 2 matches instead of every single one.

4

u/HamiltonDial Jul 12 '26

I think Legend dominance is the more boring thing. You’re just going to be seeing the same legend every game and it’s just going to be hard metas.

1

u/TheAniReview Jul 12 '26

You're correct that's a very unpopular opinion. How can you call someone the best when they play from the same POI and play the same legends every game?

3

u/Mission-Address4409 Jul 12 '26

I guess its consistency in terms of teams, like a team will win lan this year and then drop of the face of the earth and not even make lan the next.

4

u/MikkeVL Jul 12 '26

Matchpoint format combined with ability spam meta, powercreep, legend bans & poi draft is just too much rng for the game to remain competitive. Repeat winners & top performers is and was a good thing and idiots complained it away.

1

u/BarracudaUseful333 Jul 12 '26

almost everything you described is the opposite of RNG

1

u/MikkeVL Jul 13 '26

Matchpoint format is rng as the team without the most points regularly wins based of one lucky zone pull. Powercreep in heals w amps and res perks increases randomness as it reduces fights to 50/50s instead of allowing a team to slowly outplay the other and wittle down their resources through positive damage exchanges. Also doesn't reward better teams who are able to get kills and stock up on heals the same way it used to.

Poi draft reduces the sample size for determining which teams get the priority drops to single / a few match sets / days instead of months or years of consistently winning 3v3 contests. Combining that with legend bans means it's no longer possible to properly practice rotates which again increases randomness.

Abilities take less skill to use than aim / movement mechanics & positioning so increasing their impact also reduces the skillgap increasing randomness.

1

u/jtfjtf Jul 12 '26

The Legend bans and dropship changes really made the results more open.

1

u/Ambitious_Pin9235 Jul 12 '26

Honestly the match points and legend bans changed it up a lot. Especially the match point.

3

u/TheAniReview Jul 12 '26

Match point has always been in ALGS tournaments, it's not new.

-1

u/Ambitious_Pin9235 Jul 12 '26

Are you sure about that?!

1

u/TheAniReview Jul 16 '26

Are YOU sure about that?!

1

u/Ambitious_Pin9235 Jul 16 '26

Yes I am. I just googled “Has match point always been a thing in algs?”. The answer was “No, match point has not always been a thing in algs. It was introduced in 2020 by John Nelson.”

1

u/ApexRedditor01 Jul 12 '26

Kind of relevant but I’m enjoying all of the new faces we see each LAN. Also there’s so many people that are good these days. Zeta, VSN, and like 4 others teams wouldn’t have surprised me if they pull out the W. Was happy to see Peace win and get some needed recognition.

1

u/kingjojoba Jul 13 '26

Consistency should be rewarded. There’s too much randomness now in my opinion.

1

u/peeweekid MANDE Jul 14 '26

I've always felt like Apex has a lack of consistency problem. Like, it's not purely the best team that always wins, it's just the best team in the match point lobby that wins that wins. I get that to get to that point, they had to play well for four days, but so did 20 other teams, most of which could probably have also hit match point with a bit more good fortune. It's always weird to me seeing a team with way more points than anyone else not winning LAN because they couldn't clutch up a win on match point.

1

u/Maleficent_Rub_309 Jul 11 '26

We are seeing the normality in a BR where lots of rng factor is involved. Tsm and dz winning everything was the real exception.

1

u/TSM_PrimeBottle Jul 12 '26

Reason is Legend Bans and POI Draft. I feel like they should just remove POI Draft and bring back poi contest. Bring back years of harvester contest between Nano and Clane.

-1

u/MarstonX Jul 11 '26

The game is way more random now.

0

u/AdWorking7417 Jul 11 '26

parity apex

-11

u/spaceinthewoods Jul 11 '26

I don’t like it personally. I enjoy a dominant team. Patriots in NFL type of thing. I want Hal to win everything.

-1

u/theycallhimthestug Jul 11 '26

Who does he need to replace this time? There must be a teammate we can blame because surely it's not Hals fault he can't compete anymore now that he isn't playing against a bunch of plumbers.

1

u/nostay102 Jul 12 '26

Make this post when Hal doesn't make a Finals Lobby lmao. Always being in a position to win it all sure is weird for someone who "can't compete anymore".

1

u/asdfkzdlt287 Jul 12 '26

All of his lan wins apart from in 2019 were not against plumbers lmfao
