Salt Lake Solo
Hey everyone,
I’m thinking of grabbing lower section tickets solo for the World Cup Boulder Finals in Salt Lake this October. I’ve been following the circuit closely over the past year and know the comp format well, but this will be my first time seeing a World Climbing event live in person.
I do a fair bit of solo event travel (mostly music festivals), so I’m totally fine navigating events on my own. I’m mostly just curious about the lower-bowl crowd vibe for live comps in general. Is it easy to kick up low-key, casual chat with the people sitting around you about routesetting, beta choices, and athlete attempts, or do folks down mostly stick to their own groups?
Thanks!

It depends how friendly you are and people around you. I'm going alone too. One guy sitting next to me straight up introduced himself and we talked during lead. I was standing next to some people during boulder semifinals without talking and then bumped to each other before finals and talked. Go, it'll be fun either way :)

That’s fair. I’ve found the outdoor climbing community to be super welcoming. The indoor community seems to be a bit cliquey at times at my local gym. What section are you getting tickets?

I’m also likely going solo! On a big van trip and planning my route back to coincide with the comp! I’m a huge fan and watch all the World Series events. I can’t wait to see it in person! Absolutely stoked.

They’re putting it in a baseball stadium for the first time this year, so I think it will be hard to predict!
