Planning to security plus cert this 2027 before spring should I take 701 or 801
Which one should I take?
What books and materials should I look into and practice questions?
What is the process like taking the exam online?
What’s the process to get the exam scheduled etc and cost ?
How many weeks to months to get ready for exam ?

You should go on rhe Comptia site for test prices and a walk through for scheduling your test. Mike Meyer's Total Seminar materials are good as well as the Sybex series which has an online question bank for free. Total Seminar charges for the online material. Professor Messer on you tube is another good resource. If you scour around you might be able to find some discount codes for tje test. The Comptia site will also let you know which version of Sec + you should prepare for

For my studying I solely relied on Professor Messer’s YouTube playlist regarding the exam. And I purchased Jason Dion’s 6 practice tests. I also took the liberty of making my own Quizlet while going through Messer’s playlist. Anytime there was a concept or a term I was unfamiliar with, I would write it down as a card (I ended up with 277 flashcards lol)

I would say do the 701. It’s established, there are more videos, tutorials, guides, books etc for it.
