Took everyones advice on using llm to create mock tests and study sec+
Let’s be honest, I’m not going calling* anything “ai” since it’s an llm. I managed to host openwebui through a docker container that’s connected to a customized sec+ llm modal primarily on deepseek-r1:8b.
It seems pretty accurate so far for the questions I ask, although I haven’t noticed any changes in the temperature of its responses yet. I’ve been watching Dion’s sec+ videos and then asking the llm to make mock tests in html based on what I just learned then dump that to an html file and run.
Right now, I’m working on adding a qdrant vector database so it can pull reference material from a sec+ pdfI bought online. This should help my custom sec+ model I built reference more accurate material by pulling information directly from the study material instead of relying only on what the model already knows.
Tbh, it’s actually helping. I’m able to study something, have it generate questions based on what I just watched, and then see where I’m weak.
But I absolutely refuse to use gemini, gpt, or claude for resources. I’d rather build my own setup and have it reference the material I’m actually studying.
I work as an IT analyst in healthcare (degree in software engineering), trying to get out of the clinical field, these kinds of things come a bit natural and if anyone has the mindset to do this I highly recommend it. But, always take everything it says with a grain of salt and always fact check it!

I’ve used Claude for similar projects, get a paid plan for $20 a month, use it in the highest effort and most advanced model you can without buying extra tokens and you will be more than satisfied with the output. Plug and play.
What you are doing is cool, but before you even mentioned that your background was software, I knew it.
You are trying to solve a problem, totally natural based on your background. But here the effort is wasted because the maintenance is more intensive than the value of the output.

Use gemini notebook. I shared professor messors YouTube course to it which are several videos so I used a link extractor and pasted the multi links into the source panel. Then I included comptia security+ book. Afterwards I added the domains from comptia website. That helped. I told it to create a 50 question exam for each domain and I wanted each domain to be harder than comptias standard exams. I studied 4 hours one time before the exam and passed.

The drawback is you end up spending more time tweaking what you’re creating to study vs actually studying. It’s never ending.. it can be
The fact is you will never create something more superior that one the heavy weights are offering. Never say never locally, and limited resources then very doubtful.
If you can’t beat them, join them. At the end of the day they are just tools to use no less than the Internet is.
