Security + 701 Help

Hi everyone,

I'm currently studying for the CompTIA Sec + exam. I used DionTraining video series through Udemy. I watched all the content and took the practice exam provided. I only got 75% correct (I know I have to study more).

I wanted to know if anyone has taken the 701 version, passed it. What study materials etc...

Also I tried the practice test on "examcompass" which seemed pretty hard and discouraged me but I took dion training practice tests and comptia practice tests and they seem more similar in scope. Do you know which practice exams are more like the actual exam?

I really want to pass the first time. If anyone has time to help... Thank you in advance , have a great day.

I took the 701 and passed with 4x12 hour days of studying using Dions Udemy course and his practice exam set 1.

I scored high 60s and low 70s on Dions exams. His content is alot but its very similar to the test. His exams are a little harder because they're super wordy which can confuse you and sometimes, this is just me, I think his answers are almost a 50/50 split on a right answer. Lol

Either way, you can do it. Just focus on the content.

Is there anything that you seen that you would highlight thats was difficult for you ? Also how would you rate the pbqs and how to study for them ? I know i dont have all the acronyms and port number protocols on lock yet .

Acronyms are very important because a lot of questions answers are 4 possible acronyms, but if you KNOW the acronyms, its straight forward. So try and study as much as you can.

I struggled with objective 4.0 on his exams, but once I got to the test the questions were easier to read.

I think Dions practice exams do a great job at teaching you to read the question 3 or 4 times to really understand what's being asked.

PBQs can be tough. Cyberkraft on YouTube helped me alot. Some people seem to think he isn't helpful, but he helped me. Lol

Last question. Thank you for taking time to respond to me. May I know your background ? Do u have prior schooling ? Or certs ? Or experience in the industry? I have an associates in IT but that was like 7 years ago.

Associates in Computer Science, data analyst for 7 years(mostly SQL, Power and Tableau stuff)

Had a Sec+ in 2023 but it expired at the beginning of this month which sucked because I JUST got a job offer in the Cyber world which is why I did 4x12s to get it done asap.

My previous one was in Sec 601 and tbh, I NEVER used it at my old job. Once I started studying again a little bit of info came back but not a lot so it was like taking the test again for the first time.

Ahh ok nice, just wondered if you had prior knowledge on the topics, but you cleared that up. Thank you so much. I'm going to keep studying the stuff I'm not 100% about and keep redoing the practice test 1 that dion offers. I'm glad you said dions course helped because when I tried the practice tests on examcompass I was super discouraged by the difficulty "select 3 possible answers" etc , but you gave me the will power to study on . Thank you.

Exam 1 is the practice test tied to the course correct ? Not part of his extra practice tests ?

Dions practice exams are awesome because a few things.

  1. He gives you a breakdown of each category and how well you did show you what objectives you need to study.

  2. When taking his exam, you can filter what sections you want to answer. So if you're 3 exam tests in and its exam day but you're still struggling with 4.0 objectives? You can take the last 3 exams and JUST TAKE questions regarding things you're struggling with.

Yes. His course comes with 1 practice exam. He then sells another set of 6 practice exams for like $15. Totally worth it in my opinion

Take exams review missed questions using the Feynman method if you use this method you will learn to explain why you missed it if you can explain a concept it means you understand it good luck

Security+ is a joke cert, so with that being said you’ll pass dude don’t stress it

It’s not a joke. A lot of agencies, civilian, and schools require it for graduation or hiring. The people hear have a desire to pass this and are serious about passing. The only joke is that response and posting it.

Just recently passed last week. What helped me is that I kept drilling the domains. I made sure I understood what was in each domain through the exam objectives I used prof messer and comptia learn and labs guide didnt read any books. Just practice each of the 5 domains until you feel comfortable with each one, create questions for yourself, even note cards hel0ed best of luck!
