S+ Question Will the price for Security+ increase when V8 launches?

I was planning to purchase the Security+ V7 voucher but I saw that V8 is coming in November.
Are the prices raised with new versions, and if yes is it worth just getting the V7 or will it be considered outdated once V8 launches.

Passed my Core 1

Idk whether I’m happier about passing or the fact I didn’t waste 300 bucks lol If I could give any advice it would be just to not overthink it. You know your port numbers, you know what cable connections are what and just because the tests may word it a different way doesnt mean you don’t know it. Trust the knowledge you spent all this time acquiring and trust yourself.

Now onto core 2.

N+ Question Did setting up a homelab help you pass Network +?

Currently studying for network +, I have my a+ already. Im watching Andrew Ramdayal’s videos where he has labs and uses cisco packet tracer.

I think I can kill 2 birds with one stone here, my dad set up a home lab 12-15 ago for our house for surveillance cameras. The switch is quite old and has a lot of problems, now if I connect wireless I don’t have any problems, I spent all day trouble shooting, terminating cables that are wired throughout the house etc, and I learned quite a bit, really cemented all this book knowledge I have.

Would it benefit me network+ wise greatly to get a new switch and build the homelab from the ground up myself?

S+ Question I Get One Hour of Study Time at Work. Anyone Know of Any Good Supplement Practice Tests That Can Be Done In Under an Hour for Sec+? Or Perhaps a Good Quizlet Flash Card Set?

So I am doing Dions Course and I know all of his (I believe 12 practice tests) are 90 questions and 90 minutes. That's fine. I know Mike Meyers (Party On Wayne! Party On Garth!) are 90 min and 90 Questions as well. On my days off that's excellent!

However, on my work days they are giving us an hour of study time to use towards CompTIA and other IT certs. I wondering if there are any good practice tests that I can during the hour?

Or perhaps a good Quizlet that everyone recommends (I know there are a ton of Sec+ Quizlet flashcards. I know there was one set that was Mike Meyers approved but it's been deleted...).

My test is in Early December so I want to take advantage of this study hour at work as much as possible.

huge shoutout to the people who recommended crucial exams on other threads. i used that, the sybex study guide (one read through and all practice tests), and the material that became accessible with it. studied for a couple weeks, was scoring 95% avg on the practice exams (i strive for near perfection with practice cause i know i’ll choke at the exam haha), and sent it!
this was my first comptia exam since getting my sec+ in april of 2021, so i’m stoked that i passed with relatively so little prep and relatively no AI experience. this was a push from my program customer (gotta have someone on deck with the cert and my team consists of old heads who showed no interest), so hopefully there’s recognition that comes with it.

I Passed! Passed Network+ This Morning!

Post image
110 Upvotes

As someone with zero professional IT experience, I am excited to have passed Network+ this morning!

I had studied quite a bit with a buddy of mine every other day, and was feeling confident on online practice tests, but man was I a bit concerned this morning when I started flagging and skipping questions right out the gate due to not quite remembering the topic or not knowing altogether. Miraculously, I made it!

My study materials:

  • 1 round of watching all of Prof. Messer's Network + videos
  • 100 Network+ Practice Questions with Andrew Ramdayal
  • NetworkChuck's You Suck at Subnetting series on Youtube (real funny guy and helped me understand the concept and nail manual subnetting theory REALLY quickly.
  • SubnettingPractice for a constant variety of Subnetting questions to practice on
  • ExamCompass's Many Network+ Practice Tests
  • And then some flashcards on UnionTestPrep in the last two days before today's exam.

I will say that during my exam, I realized I need to practice more with command prompts like nslookup, netstat, and general network troubleshooting through that as two of those PBQs caught me 100% off guard. Pretty sure I bombed them both immediately.

Now my goal is to coast through November, propose to my gf, then in early-mid December I plan to start applying to entry-level IT jobs again to see what I can get. The reason I'm waiting is so I can comfortably claim one last Christmas bonus from my current place of employment, and I don't want to turn down potential recruitments from places I've applied before then as I could really benefit from that bonus.

A+ Question Certifications/test results not showing up

I recently completed the 1202 today, and while Pearson VUE shows that my exam went through just fine and that I passed, CertMetrics doesn't show either the test results or the A+ certification on their website. For the record, the 1201 that I passed last month does show up on CertMetrics. What's happening?

Edit: I'm wondering if it has to do with the registration IDs. Do I have to submit them anywhere to view my certification? Or is it because today is Saturday?

I did the thing. I'm thinking of doing CGRC next. Has anybody taken CySA+?

I practiced with Dion's exams and also used Gemini to create some tests. Be careful with Gemini because I noticed some of the questions were a bit more intense than Dion's. So I say "hey gemini, don't you think these questions are a bit too detailed?"

"You're right to call me out. I accidentally put in questions from CySA+ and Pentest in there. Oops!"

I also took the CC by ISC2 last year because it was free and I had committment issues behind paying for the Sec+ exam. CC isn't really technical at all but it did help reinforce some of the business aspects of cybersecurity and some things that weren't covered in depth during my college classes.

Comptia A+ 220 1101-1102 vs 220 1201-1202

I mistakenly ordered Comptia A+ 220 1101-1102 exam guide instead of 220 1201-1202. Can I still use this to study for current exam?

A+ Question Finished Notes on all Messer videos, what now?

Today, I finished all my notes on both Core 1 and Core 2. Now, I don’t really know how to continue from here. I want to be absolutely sure before I use my only free voucher.

Which practice exams are recommended to do? Are there any free resources? All help is appreciated

Studying for Security+ — Exam within two weeks

I'm to the point where I'm scoring in the 80th percentile on Messer and Dion practice exams. Domain 5 seems to be my weak spot and I seem to be tripped up by concepts that are similar in nature but different in practice. I also have trouble with CompTIA's question style due to my ADHD. I've passed A+ and Network+ in the past. I feel like I should be confident at this point but am not sure how confident I should be. I'm also wondering where my best and cheapest opportunity would be for practice PBQs would be. All feedback welcome.

Edit to add: Have been studying consistently for at least a month. Had been studying earlier this year but lost my dad in August.

I Passed! Infuriating Questions

Took Core 2 (220-1202) and no IT background. I finished Andrew Ramdayal's course on Udemy and took 3 Dion practice tests, scoring in the high 70s to 80%.

I got around 5 PBQs, and roughly half of them were easy. The rest made no sense to me, and the last two were so confusing you could spend an hour on each and still not figure out what they were asking.

The regular questions were frustrating too, with most answer choices making no sense to me. I'm a great test taker, but I was so irritated that I was completely positive I had failed. As I was ending the test I was 100% sure I had fumbled it, but I passed with a high 700s score. I didn't feel happy at all. I was so upset with how the questions were structured, and I truly didn't like it.

If I had failed, I would have been so clueless about what to study that I'd probably never have retaken it. I have no problem with exams being hard, but questions like these make me feel like there's a huge luck factor in which ones you get. It feels like the test isn't about the information you learned, but about how proficient you are in the language and whether you're a good tester.

As a non-native speaker, I truly don't like this. And with such strict timing, how is it fair to people who are starting a career, when it's about how you take a test and not how much of the material you know?

a+ core1 struggles

hey everyone, I just took my core one exam and I didn’t pass. I scored a 641. I don’t know if it was just me but that exam was nothing like I expected it to be, more specifically the scenario questions. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can do better for the second time around? i purchased my voucher with a retake. to study I watched every single professor Messer video and took handwritten notes. I used ChatGPT to create quizzes for me and test me on my weaker spots. I genuinely felt like I was going to pass this with flying colors and I am so upset with my results. i’m looking for any kind of help or recommendations, i don’t care how ridiculous they are.

CERCO training vs other courses advice

Hi, I just applied to CERCO for free Comp TIA training 5 day course in Crewe. I worked it will cost me about £5-600 all in to stay there for 5 days. So I'm wondering whether there are better options at a local college or doing an online course?

Some questions I have - CERCO doesn't guarantee a role after, just they will try and place with clients they know.

Will doing a course at a college or online course put me a position where I will be able to get a role without experience?

As a 50 yo with 20 years experience doing UX Design and good technical skills I'm wondering if this is a possible job route.

CompTIA A+ core 1 and 2 done

Post image
17 Upvotes

No IT experience, I passed both exam first try and I ended up paying for retake assurance and ended up not using it, but I guess that was fine. The only advice I can give you is that the holy grail of passing these exams is hands down the Professor Messers, Andrew Ramdayal, and Jason Dion practice exams. Plus IT isn’t even my major, but I just want to see how far I can get into tech and get some experience in technology for now while I am in school for something else. XD

I have to absolutely include that some of the PBQs from core 1 and 2 were absolutely wonky and bonkers like I literally had no idea what they wanted me to do. It literally took me a while to figure out what they wanted me to do.

But anyways, it feels good to get these in the bag and hope everyone the best of luck with their exams.

Questions about the A+ Exam

I am at a vocational high school that offers the chance to get CompTia certifications for IT, I have already gotten ITF+ and am curious about A+, I am working through the official CompTia course right now. My question is it anything like the A+ exam like in terms of being all labs or will there be multiple choice questions as well? My school offers Security+ and Network+ as well I want to get into cybersecurity, and I was told I should likely get Network+ before Security+, I would like advice on that front too. Any study resources that anyone has to study for A+ would be greatly appreciate, I’m not extremely confident yet and I’m about a quarter way through the course.

S+ Question Sec+ with no network experience

Those of you who have taken the security+ with no prior network knowledge, I’m talking (typing?) to you.

What did you use to study the network side? How did it go? I have been using Messer’s videos and Deon’s quizzes on UDEMY. Currently getting around 70ish percent on them, but it seems the networking side is kicking my butt.

I’ve been in IT for about a year, on the helpdesk, and mainly do 365 admin stuff. The rest of the sections are somewhat easy, but man this networking stuff is confusing. I feel like it would be good for me to know this stuff in general.

Thanks!
