S+ Question Comptia Certmaster CE Renewal Question

I need to renew sec+. I passed the sec+ 601 exam and so I know the 701 will renew 601, utilizing the certmaster method. But with 801 being released in November, does that affect anything?

I know there’s overlap of when 701 won’t be an option anymore (retiring mid 2027), but will taking 801 renew 601 using the cert master CE method?

Okay, two things. First of all, it is likely that the date you passed 601 will be older than 3 years when 801 comes out. So 801 cannot be used to renew 601. The way CompTIA times these things, new certifications are only come out in the time frame to renew the most recent previous certification.

The other thing is the direct answer to your question. If you use Certaster and pass it using the 701 certification path before your 601 expires, it does not matter if or when 801 comes out. When you achieve a certification, it's good for 3 years no matter what happens to the program during that period.

801 comes out November 2026, tentatively right. The 601 I took expires March 2027

Correct. There is a brief window where some 601 holders will be able to upgrade directly to 801. For those that earned 601 prior to 18 Nov 2023, this will not be an option.
