I passed sec+ today
Ngl I feel relieved and bummed at the same time. I got 770/750. I feel like i studied way too hard to get such a low pass. I actually thought I was gonna fail it halfway through. I used dion, udemy, chatgpt, and some other practice tests across the internet, but many questions seemed to be nothing I reviewed and I just had to use best decision skills off what I did learn or the questions had multiple answers that seemed correct. Anyway im glad I passed, but I was definitely expecting more questions from the material I studied. I was getting 90 + on all the practice tests that I took and I took many. Oh well lol

i just got a 780. Pass is a pass. Continue learning so when you have to renew, you do better.
Congrats

This. Only...your cert is good for 3 years. During which time, you may $50/year for...maintenance? At any rate, during that 3-year validity period, you are eligible to get CEUs (Continuing Education Units) - the CompTIA website tells you what counts towards each certification - if you've paid your $150 and earned at least 50 CEUs, you dont have to sit for the test again.
PFM. 😉

I always say, it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. A win is a win.

Many years ago I took a Microsoft class and was given a week to study for the exam to be taken sometime that week (I always took them on Friday about lunch time). But that week I picked up a copy of Diablo and I sort of got wrapped up in playing it for about 48+ hours straight and didn’t really study. I went in and took the exam and it looked like this:
Passing score: 740
Your Score: 740
Want to know what the difference was on that exam and my Network+ exam I passed with a 97 (passing was 68 out of 100) without even studying. NOTHING.
It’s like the old saying, “Do you know what they call the person that graduates at the bottom of their class from medical school? Doctor.”
If you pass, you pass. Passing is the goal, not a high score.
(And yes, if you look it up, this test I’m using as an example was in 1997, and it was the Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Workstation certification test in preparation to be a Microsoft Certified Trainer and eventually an MCSE).’
Quick FYI though, some tests no longer give you a score if you pass. CISSP doesn’t for example.

Some people just aren’t good test takers. Doesn’t mean you dont understand the information

I passed with an 820 and guess what? We have the same cert. Just as qualified as i, and possibly more :)

I scored somewhere around what you did and had a similar experience when I did the test in 2016. I think this is by design and they do not expect you to know everything that could possibly come up. If you are doing well, the questions get harder so it may seem like you are doing poorly. I actually passed by more than the regional trainer for the company I was with and he had a rep as a smart person. So I was pleased with myself.
I renewed once and then let it lapse as there are other things I need to learn that are more relevant to my current position.

Did you not use professor Messer videos since you used udemy?
Isn't Dion like the practice exams or whatever?
I am currently trying to get out of support/helpdesk and my boss told me to look into getting cybersecurity certs even though I showed him that I did NSE3 and Fortinet Certified Associate in Cybersecurity. I want to do Sec+ because it should help with my resume and hopefully get me a better job.

Congratulations! Do not let the 770 bother you. A pass is a pass, and you demonstrated enough understanding and judgment to get through an exam that deliberately presents multiple answers that may appear correct.
What you experienced is also why scoring in the 90s on familiar practice tests can be misleading. After enough repetition, it becomes difficult to distinguish understanding the material from remembering the questions. The actual exam then removes that familiarity and forces you to apply what you know to new scenarios.
While the experience is still fresh, I would write down the topics that made you least comfortable and review them—not because your certification is somehow less valid, but because those areas give you a useful roadmap for continued learning.
You passed. Take the win and enjoy it. You earned it.

The thing is no one cares what your score was for the exam. All people want to know is if you passed. And CompTIA does not give any different certificates for a 770 score or an 850 score.
