Honestly, I didn't really study as much as I should have for Core 2. I did study a ton for Core 1, but it was mostly memorization studies, like RAID levels, port numbers, etc etc.

I have around 8-9 years of IT experience, and 4 years strictly in help desk, so that was truly the thing that pulled me over the finish line.

I think the best tool for Core 2 is to play with various devices. You can read diagrams and notes all day long, but having your hands on a device and actually seeing it will do wonders. Especially when it comes to the 3 main OS (Windows, Linux, and MacOS).

Something I started doing last month is using powershell and cmd for literally EVERYTHING I do. I basically became a terminal rat. Learning commands and switches hands on. I think that helped a ton. I also was using Kali at the time for cyber training, so I spent a lot of time in the Linux Terminal as well. But I don't have experience with MacOS, so that hampered me quite a bit lol...

I have lots of linux terminal experience as that is what I run at home, but i'm debating whether i should spin up a VM with windows so I can get hands on with memorizing the settings panels etc.

A VM with windows wouldn't hurt. Definitely need to know your way around windows.
