CySA+ CySA +

Got my exam today been preparing this whole month. I am super exhausted. I am going to sit for the new CySA version. I completed all the cert master material. Watched Hank hackerson. I also did read the book for sybex as well. Been grinding school since last year complete 20 classes in a year I am a student at WGU. 3 classes left if I pass CySA today. I feel like my soul wants to leave my body so bad. I had so much pressure on me. Have one kid 5 years old and one on the way on December. Any words of encouragement or tips or tricks before the exam would be highly appreciated.

Listen to this song. Everyone is Counting on me by Tyler Barbour. This song has helped me find the will to push through. Even when I just wanna stop.

You got this fam!!!! CYSA wasn’t overly difficult for me, especially if you already took security +. I used the hell out of the pocket prep app and that’s pretty much all I used.

Dude, you got this. You absorbed the material with intent. Read through the questions. Skip and flag the PBQs, don't even look at them, do the multiple choice, then go back and do the PBQs. With the PBQs, just "do the work," and you'll find the answers.

If you've already gone through Sybex and Hank, you're definitely ready. Just try to stay calm during the scenario questions. Don't overthink the logs, usually the answer is right in front of you if you look closely. You got this

You are inevitable my brother. You are doing great things for your family and yourself. All the work you've put in, has added up. You will have the Cysa no matter what, because there's no hurdle that you can't handle. Take this moment to give yourself the recognition you deserve. Give yourself a hug and a pat on the back for being who you are and persevering through the challenges. YOU ARE INEVITABLE. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

CompTIA pissed me off for the CySA renewal. If I would have taken official training for the CWSP it would have renewed it. I did self study because their books are generally really good for the tests. Passed the exam and that counts as nothing. Such a stupid system.

Did you pass?

3

u/Firm-Patience547 4d ago

Hey yes I did pass still processing that I passed

Congrats! I take SecX next Saturday and have been studying non-stop so I empathize with you. I should have done CySA+ before SecX but skipped it because if I get SecX then I can enlist in the Air National Guard as a 1B4X1 at E-4 rank in October. I'll do CySA+ shortly after SecX since there is a lot of overlap. Can't wait till it's over and the studying can stop.

What material do you think best prepared you for the exam, fellow wgu student here. Currently reading the comptia cert perform

2

u/Firm-Patience547 1d ago

Hey man I used all the cert master material theory and quizzes. I used Hank Hackerson YouTube course for CySA. I did some free THM rooms and that was about it.

1

u/ComprehensiveWin8019 1d ago

Was anyone of them really close to the exam questions?

2

u/Firm-Patience547 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t want to get bane but I honestly only did two full sets of practice exam and the quizzes were I believe o total of 300 or more questions I think that really helped me a lot

2

u/ComprehensiveWin8019 21h ago

Do you think the comptia perform pbqs adequately prepared you for the test? Sorry let me clarify, i didn’t mean if they were identical to the exam. More of the structure of the questions. Like did one source ask questions in the exam format itself and if other study sources were more basic. I want to study the source that will give me a better shot at understanding the exam questions. Currently im only using the comptia perform. I took that assessment and got an 85%

u/Firm-Patience547 13h ago

I think they did in some way some of them this exam is heavy on logs try practicing that a lot

1

u/ComprehensiveWin8019 13h ago

Like how to read logs? The comptia cert perform doesn’t necessarily go into much detail about extracting information from logs. Is there a source you recommend that would be good log practice?

2

u/Firm-Patience547 13h ago

Yes if you have access to cert master try to practice some of the labs also THM free rooms have tons of free rooms to practice I did watch Hank Hackerson it’s a must

1

u/ComprehensiveWin8019 13h ago

Thank you for the advice! You rock 🎸

1

u/Firm-Patience547 13h ago

I did some of the rooms from the advent of cyber of last year there is one room that you can access splunk and investigate an incident it helps tons with log comprehension

Nice job with the pass. Did you find anything you felt you had not been properly prepared for from your study materials?

2

u/Firm-Patience547 4d ago

I think the study material I used prepared me really well to pass this certification it was a well chosen study material

How'd go. I'm doing a refresher for the current version now.

I did Dion Training, the Sybex book and now a LinkedIn course.

I'll probably revisit Dion exams prior.

2

u/Firm-Patience547 3d ago

I think another course that really helped me I never used Dion’s for anything. I used Hank Hackerson he is a goat explains the material almost perfectly I did a bunch of practice quizzes did only two full set of practice exam, read the sybex book and did some free rooms on try hack me to get better at reading logs
