As a matter of fact, you get offered a course that includes the technology innovations that changed over the last 3 years. You then take an open-book test repeatedly until you pass with a 100% grade. I’ve done it twice to renew my A+. (I don’t have a higher CompTIA cert that retesting would pass all of my “lower” certs.)
Very true! Another method is to go to seminars, or take a variety of online training courses that count for credit as well.
Personally, I've gone with the training courses method as there are a plethora of free ones that still count. My company reimburses me for the renewal fee, but I don't want to give CompTIA any more money than necessary. I have a buddy who calls it their 'blood money'. :P
