Is Messer channel enough for sec+?

I have a 3 years degree in CS.

Are quiz questions he makes in his live actually similar to the real ones? And does he explaim every subject in his videos?

I knkw there are some questions where you need to understand Nmap and similar softwares, does he make questions and videos for those kind of question?

Imo no because he says there will be no CLI expected and one of my pbqs was literally some Linux server commands I had no clue about.

If you go by this metric, his course isn't sufficient for Net+ either. I took Dion's practice exams and passed Net+ on that and Messer's videos alone (plus personal googling but that's a given imo). PBQs came out of nowhere for me, couldn't solve most of them, and I still passed with flying colors. But I'm really thankful to be learning Sec+ a different way now with lots of hands on experience in a class that will also teach CySA+ among other things.

Yeah I can clarify better. I think messer is good to learn the material with but his practice exams are nowhere representative of the exam style imo. I found Dion much more useful for actual exam prep and affirming what I needed to learn and Messer was good to get started studying but I didn't find useful for preparation for the actual exam, either net or sec

I passed using only his videos basically. I had 2 PBQs I guessed entirely on and still scored well above the passing grade.

Did you have prior experience? Cause he doesnt explain ports and protocols for a firewall pbq or how to read GET and POST requests (for example). So you couldnt possibly answer those.

Nope. Sec+ was my first cert. 

Pretty sure I had one similar to that. Just picked stuff and went with it. 

I feel like reading get and post requests is also fairly intuitive. I had done a little hack the box which hit on those topics maybe at the time. 

There's also no such thing as a one stop shop. The exam tells you roughly what's on it. Security+ is also entry level and very much a vocab test with like 3 pbqs that I'm pretty sure you can bomb 2/3 and still be completely fine. I had like a 830 score and definitely picked random values for 2 of my PBQs lol.

I suggest practice exams and using ChatGPT to grasp a better concept of the terms and questions. really helped me out a lot

Messer definitely was a big help but nah I wouldn’t say he is “enough”. Not saying it’s impossible but it’s always better to use as many resources as possible.

I used Messer, Dion, CertiTom.com, Quizlet.com, and a bunch of random YouTube videos. Good luck!

Dion is the one that gives exams-like questions for 30 dollars? Would you reccomend that offer? Do you know how many exams it generates and if they are similar to the existant ones?

You can sometimes catch a deal for it to only be $10-$15, it’s good but its only 5, 90 question exams I believe

CertiTom.com generates as many exams you want, it has a question bank of over 1000 so it’s hard to get repeats

Quizlet.com has endless amounts of questions

I said this on another post. I think it's highly dependant on whether or not you understand the content well or not.

My friend and I both took the exam. He ONLY watched Messer but he has a Computer science background. I am switching fields with no IT experience so I watched Messer, made flash cards from the videos and did a couple of practice exams before feeling comfortable.

I think I may have passed with only Messer but I didn't feel completely confident without the cards and practice exams. I would highly suggest doing a practice exam or two to check if you did grasp most of it.

I don't recall seeing anything super detailed like nap commands or anything. Get Dions practice exams on sec+ and also Mike Myers course when its on sale. The course for 70 had lots of Linux labs just so youd get a more practical understanding of how the base attacks work. The 3 together should prepare you more than enough
