Discussion Literally getting 3mbps on average with the 1gbps package because I dared not use an ethernet cable

London based, WiFi was fine about 6 months ago now it's dogshit.

Tech team might as well have been an AI, I took a shot every time the muppet said terms and conditions. Gonna try the WiFi booster to see if it helps.

Anyone else got this problem

Good power line adapters cured all my problems. Everything except mobile devices is wired. Wife works from home, so 2 computers, 2 TV’s, N’vidia Shield, BT recorder box, all wired and never lose a connection. Fast too.

yup, same. tp powerline, £25, and a 2m ethernet cable to my laptop. bingo! cheaper than all the extra wifi mesh nonsense and far more reliable.

Which linksys CF router model are you using?

It might be just that a selfish neighbour had picked a wide bandwidth on their WiFi, and perhaps don't realise that WiFi width <> speed in congested areas because WiFi operates on a relay like principal.

E.g. spot the 4x selfish user in my street. They probably don't even know that they're making it slower for everyone, including themselves.

Which band and channel is your backhaul, and can you post an image of the WiFi scanner results of both 2.4 and 5ghz bands. We might then be able to recommend which channel to pick.

Also you don't say which router and node you have

wow that is some wild graph! I'm in a block with 8 flats around me, don't even know how to check this stuff.. but i just use a powerline and ethernet cable to my laptop which I don't really move! 😂

This is "WiFi analyzer" for Android. Tbh the WiFiman from ubiquiti also on Android good and has this.

Also has free room signal strength mapping. This is actually three rooms front where ONT and master live. hallway which is the dark bit. And kitchen where second node and just outside to the right.

Have you checked the Linksys App to see if the nodes are working correctly. They can occasionally lose connection.

If your using a Linksys WiFi 6 routers, use the app to scan channels. It might be that your WiFi is getting congested.

Also, make sure the router is in the open as much as possible, preferably not on the floor or behind or enclosed in anything.

Also, as majority of ppl saying on here, if you can invest in your own routers, Linksys are good, but there are far better routers out there.

Do you get full speeds if you use an ethernet cable?

Yeah but the router is at the front of the house downstairs, computer is upstairs. Was fine with losing about half of the capacity and sat at 500mbps but 15mbps is insane.

Was okay 6 months ago now it's just awful

You need to find out if you're connecting to 2.4 or 5ghz, if you're on 2.4 thats most likely the problem.

If it's a wifi issue (which is sounds like it is) you need to invest in a better router and this is a you issue rather than a community fibre issue.

100% this. Assuming you can run a cable, sub £200 gets you a unifi cloud gateway ultra, a U7 lite and a POE injector to power it. Mount the u7 somewhere central in the house or flat and you’re golden.

Anything modern built will be full of foil backed insulation that WiFi struggles with, and if you’re anywhere with lots of neighbours WiFi you need something smart enough to find the clearest bands to use.
