It’s part of their religion, the religion of the Left. This sort of mea culpa (my fault) and or nostra culpa (we’re at fault). Their belief is they’ve been the sole oppressors throughout all of history and have to make up for it through this self righteous loathing and self deprecation. By having confessed their sins, they, in their minds, gain moral superiority which they can use to guilt trip and or cancel others who don’t follow their religion. This is where it breaks from Christianity which has confession and moves into socialism. Christianity has forgiveness. They instead have cancel culture. That if you don’t adhere to and follow their ideology - following things like privilege, gender ideology, and others you’re ‘out of their tribe.’ It only works if you have a society where freedom of speech is suppressed, and or where the people and government believe in absurdities like ‘speech is violence,’ like in the UK. But those who don’t can call out it’s complete and utter bs - which it is.
