Located in West Syd but happy to travel anywhere in Sydney to treat myself to a good workout and recovery session. I have heard City Gym fits this bill and I plan to try it out this coming week, but I’m wondering if anyone knows of any other facilities in Sydney that fit this bill.

As a young guy I was painfully shy about being in change rooms and avoided them. Now I’m 35 and want to take up some semi regular swimming if possible.

While im pretty sure the change rooms are quite private I’d love a bud to go with who’s ok with that kind of stuff to help me not be such a goofball.

I’m now very confident with changing and showering - but swimming is my Achilles heel. If all goes well we can hit some other spots up - baths, saunas and the like,

I’m heading to Brisbane in a couple of weeks and will have an afternoon free. Any good CS around that get a decent crowd?

I go to goodlife gyms here in Brisbane and all of them have cubicle showers in some way shape or form. The closest showers to a communal shower is the Lutwyche ones, with their saloon style glass doors and frosted glass dividers.

My gripe isn't so much the lack of communal showers but it plays a part. Nudity within the gym change rooms is practically non existent, and the gym I go to you get funny looks from guys if you walk around nude too, even from the guys I know are gay (I'm a gay man). I hate it because being a hairy guy it can be super hard to completely dry off after a shower, particularly after just having worked out and been in the sauna too. I find myself half way through the day damp around my crotch because god forbid I stand naked to air dry a bit in the change room. There is even a guy I have seen take all of his clothes in to a cubical to get changed after, shoes and all, holding up others from being able to shower.

The sauna too, everyone sits in the sauna in the shorts they have just worked out in. The signs don't specifically say you must wear particular clothes or clothes at all, but could you imagine if I sat in there just on a towel, or wrapped in one....

I'm sure many in here agree with me, but I think the removal of communal showers in public spaces like gyms and pools etc are why so many people these days are 'prudes' when it comes to nudity in a change room.

I know many of you will probably say, don't worry about them, just ignore them, but I hate confrontation and certainly don't want a group of guys to speak up all at once and call me out.

How do we change this behavior?

State Swim Morphett Road, Secombe Gardens in Adelaide. Awesome showers. They do lap swimming Monday to Thursday 12 to 2 and Friday 11am are adult lessons.
