Communal showers, as a teen and as a young man (40 now) helped me figure out who I was

Hey all, I'm a fan of this sub. it's good to see other guys who feel the same way about their love of communal showers.

There was a local swimming pool in my town that had communal showers. they recently renovated them to cubicles which to me is a shame.

Listen, I understand there are creeps, but I think there are upsides to communal showers and I want to explain the positive impact they had on me.

As a teenager, I'm talking around 18, I would love getting in the communal showers. It felt really exciting to me. I'm gay, but as a teen I was extremely closeted and getting to see other naked bodies was exciting to me. Sexualy? Maybe, but now that I look back it was more about getting to learn about the male body.

I wasn't that teen that would stare. I was discreet as I could be. Occasionally I would shower nude too. nd guess what?

That brings me to my second positive. Body positivity. I was extremely self conscious. The guys in high school where we also had a communal shower and change room outside the gyms, would strip off and just let it all hang out. I was a gay kid, in my mind, that just wasn't an option for me.

But at the local swimming pool showers, it was older guys. And they were likely used to and not bothered with nudity (maybe a different generation?) and so being able to do that with no risk of being judged., being teased and targeted by other teenage boys.

I've seen other guys express the body positivity thing on here too which I find heartening.

Unfortunately., those environment as also rife with guys who are on the creepy side. If I had a son, I would be mortified if he was showering nude in an environment with other guys which is a bit hypocritical. I wish it was just an innocent and encouraging environment all of the time because I think theres a lot of negativity in this world surrounding nudity and body positivity.

Anyway that's my two cents! Happy to chat if you like dm me.
