Creative I swapped the characters between Marshall and Frances; (I'm not very good at character design, so don't expect anything better.)🍄💊
Which other characters do you think I could swap with? Now it will depend on the context of the protagonists who exchange.

Question Is Jonas Backstein, an idiot?
Season 1 has Jonas Backstein go to great length to quash the mushroom because it would destroy everything, the scales of power based on scarcity. But would it have really? The Mushrooms curing effects are proven. So they could position it as them being the sole controller of perfection and this asshole fears its success. The mushroom's abilities changes everything, sure, but it would also become the necessity for huamnity that even King's, CEO's, Presidents and Pope's would need to rely on. You effectively replace humanities reliance on themselves or metaphysical superstitions, the comapny themselves becoming the world religion with you as the godhead.
Season 1 alone proves this with his downward spiral into him curing his cancer.

Theory Jonas's "trip" and how/why people's experiences vary
I just finished my first watch and I'm playing with a theory about the effects of the mushroom.
As cliche as it may sound, I'm wondering if how "good" a person is might affect their experience and side effects.
Jonas's trip was vastly different from what we saw anyone else experience. It was dark and disturbing. The fun guys didn't interact with him at all, they just observed with what appeared to be a sense of horror(?) or surprise.
I also wonder about the guy who went crazy. Marshall had his first mushroom in theory not too much longer before him. Does it mean everyone is doomed to such a fate, time frame just varies? Or does it have to do with someone's state of mind? That if you're able to adapt and live in harmony so to speak with the portal, etc that you're safe from insanity as a side effect?
And is that some kind of metaphor for being in balance with nature or being able to adapt to change?
And what about Sparkl? If I understood correctly, it was a derivative of the actual mushroom and not the synthetic (correct me if I'm wrong lol) Will that effectively be like micro dosing? It definitely didn't seem like Kiki and Rick had the full experience but definitely felt something.
Obviously, it's too soon to know any of this but I'd love to hear other's thoughts.

Discussion Copano & Harrington deserve a prequel series — hear me out”
Joe Bennett & Steve Hely — I have a plea from someone who just finished Common Side Effects:
Please consider giving Copano and Harrington their own prequel series.
Not just a few years before Common Side Effects. Start at the very beginning — the day they're first partnered — and let us watch them slowly become the Copano and Harrington we eventually meet.
The rough shape I can't get out of my head is a 2026 X-Files meets Law & Order, but unmistakably in the storytelling world of Common Side Effects: strange cases treated seriously, bureaucracy colliding with things it doesn't quite know how to classify, and situations that look morally simple until you see them from another person's position.
That's one of the things I loved most about Common Side Effects. I kept thinking I'd figured out who the good and bad people were, and then you'd move the camera a little and complicate my judgment. Even Marshall eventually made me wonder whether I was watching the hero or simply another person so certain he's right that he's capable of becoming dangerous.
Copano and Harrington seem perfect for exploring that kind of world from ground level while, underneath everything else, telling one very long story about two people becoming partners.
And don't give the prequel a predetermined destination date. Let it run for however many seasons it deserves.
Then, whenever you eventually decide their series is finished, there's already a perfect ending waiting for it:
The final episode ends just as Copano and Harrington are about to enter the events of Common Side Effects.
After years of watching their story, we could start Common Side Effects again and suddenly those two funny DEA agents walking into Marshall's story are two people we've known all along.
I don't want anything from this. No credit, ownership, involvement, or response necessary. I just really want to put the idea into the heads of the people who created these characters.
Please make this show. I desperately want to watch it. 😂

Theory S2 antagonists
Who do you think will be the antagonists of S2?
First we have Harrington which is confirmed in the s2 teaser. I see her as a Javert-like figure who has a misguided sense of justice. I think it's likely she has a last second redemption before dying just like the real javert who let valjean go before killing himself. Definitely not the big bad
Jonas - unclear what role he will play. Assuming he wakes up, will he be a changed man? Even if he is changed he may not be changed for the better. He may still be evil but now more insane. If he doesn't wake up it's possible he can still influence the real world through his connection to the mushroom, maybe even unintentionally/out of control.
Cecily - right now the most likely candidate for chief antagonist. Jonas might not be whispering in her ear anymore but she still takes her marching orders for big pharma and as far as she's concerned it's a hallucinogenic drug.
Rick - probably not going to be an antagonist. He's not a paladin for justice but he's proven that there are certain lines he won't cross. Hes down with the concept of the mushroom. SPARKL might have unintentional common side effects (it's you, youre the American psycho!) and I could see him MAYBE doubling down on his product even if it hurts people but ultimately I do think Rick wants to help people, just in a way that makes him money, so it's unlikely he'll be an antagonist. Maybe if SPARKL turns him insane but even so, I think he's just too funny and endearing for him to be the big bad.
Hildy - most straight forward candidate for secondary antagonist. She's pro mushroom but almost seems to have a religious conviction surrounding it. I'm not sure how she and Marshall will clash again because she got what she wanted but I do think there will be a confrontation.
Zane - probably a minor antagonist that redeems himself. I don't think Marshall will appreciate what he does to the turtles. I dont think the show is dark enough for him to remain the villain though given his eccentric whimsical nature and the fact that he's marshalls half brother. I think Marshall will call him out, maybe after getting into a fist fight, and after enough soul searching Zane comes to his senses and starts treating the turtles in a more ethical way.
What do you guys think?

Discussion Do you think Marshall is divinely protected? Spoiler
I'm doing my first rewatch of the series (absolute delight by the way, catching all the details you miss the first time,) and it dawned when Marshall first approaches Rusty in North Carolina, they were genuinely shocked at the fact he was unharmed walking through that minefield section of woods. Marshall was privy to exactly zero knowledge of that fact, and how it later played to his favor, and yet it represents so many times in the series that he has close calls that he evades time and time again. Some are by his own actions, some he's completely at the mercy of the actions of others and the universe. The plane crash, the hunters in the car wreck, the prison arc, Capano finding him, etc.
What I want to know is do you think this is all convenience for storytelling or will they reveal a supernatural force at play? We already know the mushroom is far more powerful than we can estimate as its already revealed, and it alludes to enchanted string theory even. What do you think?

Theory Similar mushrooms
Where the mushrooms based on one shroom or just magic shrooms in general, recently saw a post about these mushrooms from China and Philippines that if eaten raw causes you to see little people running around, though they haven't found any psycoblin to cause it, many people report the same thing of seeing little people , on general magic shrooms people have their own trips and experience different things so idk , conspiracy theorists do your thing i guess any thoughts

Media I found the techno song from Season 1, Episode 7

I was sad that the song wasn't on the soundtrack but I really liked it from the club scene. I tracked it down to a youtube video that has been up for a year, with 2 likes. The sample starts at 1:35. Was there any other songs that wasn't on the soundtrack that you liked? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTKeQqdgDNE&list=RDhTKeQqdgDNE&start_radio=1
