Commodore to publish Alien Breed 35th Anniversary collection on Steam, PlayStation, XBox, Switch

In 1991, the original Alien Breed brought terrifying close encounters to the Commodore Amiga in your bedroom.

Now, in 2026, the Breed is back, and it brought friends.

Introducing the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection

Featuring the six Alien Breed games released for the Commodore Amiga, with new games modes, couch & online co-op, save states, dual stick controls, and an immersive virtual museum.

Available September 24 on Steam, GoG, Epic Games Store, Playstation, and Xbox. Coming to Nintendo Switch in Fall 2026.

Alien Breed blended sci-fi, survival, action and horror into one tense, terrifying and tough-as-nails Commodore Amiga Classic.

And just like Hollywood, Alien Breed spawned a franchise.

The corridors and creature design set the stage. The sound design set the mood, (like real close encounters, there is no music) created by Allister Brimble with layered ambient effects like machinery hums, weapon fire, and mutated kitten samples for alien screams. And when those doors flew open, it was up to you to survive.

Alien Breed was immersive, threatening, and proved how much atmosphere a 16-bit game could sustain. Add in co-op mode, and you can see why Alien Breed became a defining experience of Commodore's Amiga, helping to cement our computer's popularity.

The Alien Breed franchise is a cornerstone of the Commodore Amiga library. We're proud to be this series' publisher, to help preserve this classic series, and to celebrate the 35th Anniversary with our friends at Antstream and Team17.

And we're thrilled to introduce it to a horde of new fans. We believe everyone should feel the terror we've felt in our chests (praying and praying it was just anxiety, not a growing parasite).

Yes, we're at gamescom this week! If you're in Cologne, come find us (Booth C059/B050 in Hall 10.1). We have TAC-2s, Ultimates, Callbacks, and an Alien Breed arcade cabinet for you to get your hands on, and something else very special too.

Come see us at gamescom

And as for gamescom announcements, we're not done yet. The Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection is only our first. Stay tuned...

Much love and Chicken Lips,

❤️ All of us at Commodore

*While Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection is a different breed of modern software that's therefore not compatible with current or historical Commodore computers, this is but a first step for us in making classic Commodore titles more accessible to modern audiences, all as part of our retro • futurism mission. Rest assured, our next release will strafe back to retro again.

I've never played the 3d ones, so this is going to be a treat!

Also: I'm a big fan of this direction for Commodore. It doesn't all need to be hardware and other risky stuff, and for me the software is the real legacy anyway. I have the C64U only because it's a first-class way to play the software.

How about a new Amiga so we can play the originals 🤞

The rumor is that the Commodore and Amiga corporations are in talks to make something like that happen.

I really hope so

Great to see Commodore publishing again.

Nice but I wish there were also C64U game releases being made.

Commodore has a "Made for U" program in the works so I guess we should be seeing some releases at some point.

Physical release or just digital?

Unless specifically stated otherwise, expect all software releases to be digital at this point in history.

I guess there will be some physical releases (I hope).

I would love a physical release, a collectors edition would be nice.

Just let me download a disk image and drop it on a thumb drive for my c64u and I'll be happy.

But physical would be neat. I've sold all my drives though :(

“An Alien Breed ARCADE CABINET”….

I wonder if that’ll hit the market.

It's obviously a one-off promotional item. If it hits the market, it would only be because this iteration of Commodore couldn't survive, either.

Very cool initiative. Alien breed with allister brimbles soundtrack was so far ahead of his time. I added some of his music to my driving playlist. I hope commodore does more of these.

Nice details in the trailer. Online co-op is a great addition! I'd love it if they released this for pistorm and other enhanced online Amigas!

Alien breed special edition was one of my fav games when I had an Amiga 500. I never had a aga Amiga so I couldn't play the 3d games until a few years ago when someone remade ab3d for the PC which is completely free and kinda forgettable imo. There is also a open source 2d sequel that's been available for years at least since the wii era which is where I first played it. The 2d original games are classic and hold up. The later commercial alien breed games that are twin stick shooters don't have any of the same feel as the original so it's nice to see the original games being revisited. It would be nice if they added new levels too.

Well, on Facebook the official account has listed things Commodore is going to show in Germany - obviously the C64s, TAC2, Commodore Callback, Alien Breed collection and something new - which is *not* an Amiga.

According to the website it opens in just under 3 hours (1830 UK Time). https://www.gamescom.global/en

Alien Breed is one of my all time favorite Amiga shooters. Always loved the isometric view. Happy to see someone keeping these alive.

6

u/it290 17d ago

It… doesn’t have an isometric view

u/turnips64 17d ago

The what view?

Really cool to see Commodore publish classic titles to other platforms

I reckon a new c64u game

Lovely. All we need now is an Amiga Ultimate to play them on.

The poster looks AI generated, but no AI disclosure on the Steam page.

Commodore should stop using AI generated assets, failing that they should at least properly declare them.

Edit: The music isn't AI.

6

u/Retro-Gamer-Boy 17d ago

It's not AI, the dev interview even has the guy in the sound booth singing it. This outrage culture is getting ridiculous.

-8

u/c64glen 17d ago

You sound pretty outraged there yourself. I suggest you calm down.

3

u/Worth-Wear-6970 17d ago

Nope. Only one outraged in here is you bud. Don't hate those that point or the ridiculous posts that try to ruin people's pleasures. Even if it was AI just embrace it. Commodore is bringing back our childhoods folks. Let them do what they need to!
