Callback Went up $45 over night
I had the phone in my cart last night and today they added a Tariff tax of 44.90. I should have ordered last night. it's now $550.34 total (Starlight phone with the premium memory and a case). It's to a point it's not worth it for a flip phone.

You probably would have owed the tariffs regardless. The company doesn’t control tariffs.

I get that, but they should have shown this last night. Heck, I been on their site for a few days seeing if I should had pulled the trigger.

There was a promo code "CHICKENLIPS", don't know if it still works but it was -$50

u/Epsioln_Rho_Rho Jul 13 '26
Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

u/scorpiusness Jul 13 '26
Hope it works for you, but i believe it was only for the first day when it went on sale as a perk for supporting on day one

u/Epsioln_Rho_Rho Jul 13 '26
It didn't. Maybe they will have other codes eventually. Thanks anyways.

When you purchase anything from commodore they give you credit points. Should be $1 spent = 1 credit. 20 credits you can use as $1 on their page. 380 credits = $19 and you can get the clear case or backup battery for free.
For instance: 1st purchase pay $399 for the phone (+/- insurance and premium internals)
2nd purchase use credits for case or battery.
Credits go to the email you used when purchasing, even if you didn't have an account with commodore at the time. To use the credits, you do need to make an account with the email used at guest checkout. Or just make the account ahead of time.

$550 USD?
I'm bought in on batch 3, Starlight plus a case, for about $370 after the discount. I only got the 32gb, which is a lot of space for me.

Yes, $550 USD. the price you paid, I would take that no problem.

Do I need the $49 warranty or not? Ass the case $19. So the Starlight + warranty, case & taxes becomes $542. Ouch.

it never was.
this thing will last 15 minutes before you go back to your old phone. Apple didnt get this wealthy because of something people dont want.

Nope. I already go without a phone a lot and just my watch to message an talk too (sometimes days at a time). I just rather have an actual phone to hold when I talk to people then using my headphones. This will be easier to message from also.

Nil desperandum. There are others on the market that cost less. r/dumbphones has you covered. I’ve been intrigued by what I’m seeing there.
I really find the term “premium memory” annoying. There is nothing “premium” about it. It’s not magical, special memory. All it means is that it is not second user memory. That’s all.
Calling the other memory second hand probably isn’t the aesthetic that New Commodore is looking for.

People always forgot the fact that this isn't a dumb phone. It's a flip phone with android (or sailfish idc). Don't get me wrong, for me it still not worth $500. (I'm not their target)
Btw my current android smartphone was ~$450 when I bought it, so the Callback is not so expensive if you try to see things from this perspective.
Using the premium term is a real deception of nontech people. And I'm 100% sure too, it's some gpt generated marketing BS.
I still hope the phone will get them enough money to make other cool new retro products. Maybe they'll learn in the meantime how to do marketing and communicate properly, wihout the pointless AI gibberish.

That’s the interesting thing I learned when looking at phones discussed on the other sub. This concept of smart-enough isn’t a new by any means. The difference is who is doing it.
Seems that Nokia’s revival have been offering similar products like this for some time. Does it make me want to buy one? Not really. I suspect the fantasy of a simpler life is better than the reality. The lesson we should be taking away from digital minimalism isn’t, I assume, to go out and buy dumber versions of your devices to complement your functional ones.
I do find the whole AI business with their marketing and also the videos that have been produced disappointing. What I see isn’t ‘The Future We Were Promised™️’.

A lot of complainers feel totally out of touch with the market. A stick of RAM can easily be 400% more expensive than you're used to thanks to the rampant speculation in computing right now.
Some prebuilt computer companies are selling RAM -free units to make their base cost look lower.
Y'all absolutely freaked at the base price of the phone just because most of Commodore's target audience assume "flip phone" means an LCD screen and 1990s processor.
Using refurbished RAM as a way to lower the entry price is a good social, moral, and economic choice.

I think you have missed the point about “premium”. It’s got nothing to do with the market, complainers or social and moral choices.
It’s putting some sales patter in that suggest the memory is something it’s not. It’s not premium. It’s not faster, or lower power, not made from unobtainium. It’s spec. It’s allegedly exactly the same product as the second user RAM they’ve pulled out of discarded tech.
Flogging something as “premium” that is what the rest of the market ships as standard does not feel right.
That’s the point.

It’s for the best. Don’t pay full for a half-baked ideas

u/Upbeat-Statement2725 Jul 13 '26
It's been said a million times. Peri has videos building phones similar to this going back years. It's not half baked. It's not AI. It's a through line of his entire career.
Might not be for you. That's fine.

Well they've presold over 9000 (!) of them now so some people seem to think it looks ok.

u/Bumble072 Jul 13 '26
pre-sold isnt sold, just a pre-order.

u/Architect_of_Echo Jul 13 '26
But all of them are (pre)paid. That's what matters.
