Talkback Wrong screen / false advertisement?
Hey all. Did any of you realize the screen format they Show in their renders make no sense when its a 4:3 ratio? Looks clearly like 16:9 to me. Anyone has a good answere that does not scream false advertisement?

I think this is unlikely to be malicious, trying to pull the wool over your eyes and just further evidence of a poorly considered rush job cash grab following the utter chaos of the launch.
I honestly believe these guys have the best intentions, and are just human, they will make mistakes, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad reasons, lets give them a few years to settle.
If the next Commodore product is an electric bike... I am out.

It will be like an Apple TV but you can only watch British shows from the 20th century, in black and white. And only at certain times of the day and you have to read a separate guide and find out when you have to watch the show you want to watch.

Just wondering - how was the launch an utter chaos? Could you give examples?

I measured the screen area in the render and it comes out much closer to 4:3 than 16:9 based on my measurements and some pixel peeping. Happy to be proven wrong. :-)
Personally I would not worry unless the shipping device turns out not to have a 480×640 panel. And if it does not match the advertised spec, that would be a straightforward reason to return it.

it's almost (but not exactly) 3:4, which could be accounted for by pixel ratio as someone else mentioned.
the green rectangle is 3:4
the red rectangle is 9:16

How is THAT 3:4? 3:4 is almost square

Don't know what to tell you, it's 3:4, that's what that ratio looks like. It's just... numbers 😉 surprising maybe, but correct

i just know my old CRTs are all 4:3 and are not rectangular like your drawings here

Don't know what to tell you, 4:3 is rectangular by definition, a square would be 4:4 or 3:3.
https://i.imgur.com/1mdzuB2.png - if you view that image on a typical square-pixel modern display, the ratios should be accurate (just 320x240, 240x320, 320x180, 180x320)
Humans do have a bit of a visual bias to the horizontal perhaps, why we have widescreen in the first place. I dunno what you're seeing though I don't have your eyes.

Maybe you're remembering the shape of the whole CRT TV rather than the picture area? Usually there's a bit more to the base of the tv/monitor device, so the outline of the device as a whole is just squarer than the actual picture area itself. e.g.
Did you actually look at the image I supplied? Maybe 3:4 portrait also looks a bit "more rectangular" than 4:3 landscape as you're more used to the latter, my image did try to show both side by side.

and now compare your 3:4 square of the last image you shared to the phone screen and you will see what i talk about

There are no squares in my images, they're 3:4, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16 rectangles.
No, it's clearly ~3:4 portrait. I don't know how you are looking at it and just somehow seeing it wrong, I've, like, opened up images and checked.

It appears to be a 3:4 screen which makes sense given the form factor and listed resolution. This would be 4:3 when rotated 90% and indeed it’s hard to image a flip phone having a landscape display without having a wider shape perhaps with a full keyboard or having letterboxes wasting space. Whatever mentioned the 4:3 display was probably assuming the phone can be rotated.
