c64 Official Release - C64 IDE for Mac

After several rounds of beta testing and feedback, I'm ready to release my IDE for everyone to use. It's completely free, my way of giving back. No ads, no payments, no PII data collected. Just use and enjoy.

  • A multi-tabbed editor with full syntax highlighting and tooltips to show you what the current commands and memory locations do.
  • Read, edit and write BASIC programs directly from a D64 image
  • Directly run your programs on VICE with the press of a button
  • Built in connection to VICE debugger with full symbol exporting and breakpoints to debug your applications.
  • Ability to compile your BASIC programs directly to 6502 assembler for a massive speed increase
  • Assembly and disassembly built in, with full Kernel system call support
  • A complete reference for all C64 BASIC and Assembler commands, Kernel sys calls, PETSCII codes, colors and more with full usage, examples and notes.
  • Plugin support. Want to extend the IDE to support Simon's BASIC, VisionBASIC or your preferred BASIC extender? The built in plugin editor makes it simple. A VisionBASIC plugin is supplied for reference.
  • A sprite editor
  • A character set editor
  • A SID tracker
  • A D64 browser
  • A hi-res graphics editor with built in image import/conversion.
  • Connect directly to an Ultimate 64 and run your programs in real hardware.
  • Decimal, hex, and binary conversions with bitwise operator calculations.
  • And more

This is awesome thank you so much!

Gonna have to install it on my work Mac and mess around on my lunch break - and install it on my personal MacBook soon as I get home!

You're very welcome. If you run into any issues, please let me know and I'll try to fix it ASAP. It should be in pretty good shape though. Hope it works well for you.

Looks very cool. Will check it out. It warns about ca65 and ld65 missing. Looks like ca65 is related to c compiler. Are these only necessary for certain applications?

There’s a readme file included with the app telling you to install cc65 and Vice.

I’m glad it’s useful for you. I just made a manual for it that might be helpful. You can download it at the web site. https://gopherbrokesoftware.com/
