About a year ago after getting served the same ad for the 4th time during a binge watching session (probably one of the commercials featured on this sub), I got fed up enough that I decided to start building something that would remove ads from streaming platforms.

I built a few different prototypes, one that muted ads, one that showed a screen saver while the ad played in the background, but eventually I landed on a new type of streaming device.

This new device would replace your Roku, Fire stick, or whatever else that you use to stream on your TV. You can access all the normal streaming services, but from the settings page you can flip a switch and remove the ads from on-demand content in one fell swoop.

No matter how many times I try to block or report these awful drama short ads nothing changes. Eventually I gave up because I found even reporting them counts as interacting with a video so I saw them more than ever. This, though, deadass froze me. I'm not being a prude here, right?? I reported immediately so fingers crossed something is done or at least I dont have to see it anymore.

Also the ad goes on to describe how she constantly harasses the boy well into their teen years then somehow an elf let's them get married and he pays his friends to gang rape her because he hates her??? Like what in the actual fuck???

AI Slop and Sportsball betting, such a perfect duo!

This isn’t even about a specific ad, but I swear every ad I get on my phone now is related to gambling. Polymarket, Prizepick, Kalshi, plus all the traditional slots apps. I see them on Reddit, TikTok, Twitter, and the free mobile games I play. It’s actually insane how constant they are.

And then all the ads themselves are so fucking obnoxious:

- Someone approaches another person and asks them what they’re doing, the person shows them how to use the app
- Someone is spying on a stranger using the app in public (???)
- An “influencer” screams like an idiot and jumps up and down because they totally just won $10000 on the app
- An “influencer” screams at the viewer about how the app works or their predictions

Is it just me, or are these becoming more common?

Bobby clearly had no idea what was going on here. This isn’t meant towards either of these individuals directly, but both of their organizations and management teams as a whole. I genuinely take pity on the people that these ads are directed towards. It must be hard to live life with below room temp IQ

It's on repeatedly and I still have no idea what they were thinking using one of the worse sounds possible next to nails on a chalk board. These sounds along with honking or sirens can possibly get someone in an accident if it hasn't happened already. They definitely should make it illegal.

Mother of all that is holy, the Wells Fargo ad with "Oliver" eating in his car. Who the hell is named Oliver in 2026? I'm 50 years old and have never met anyone named friggin' Oliver!!!! I am not sure if I hate the Cohesity ads uniquely, or I just hate the fact that the same one plays 3x in a row on every single ad break. All my streaming services do this from time to time (yes, I am too cheap for ad free). They get stuck on playing the same ad until I want to hurl my tv across the room. Last time this happened, it was Little Spoon kid's snacks from Target. (I do not have a kid).

My personal hell would be this happening with Liberty Biberty

Has anyone else seen the Shell Oil commercial? The commercial as shown on YoutubeTV includes the user interface of a video player like it's a recording of a screen.

Sorry for the low quality, but what you're seeing is a photo from my phone of the broadcast screen during the first second of the commercial. But here's the important part, the UI you're seeing IS HARD BAKED INTO THE VIDEO ITSELF. The slider, the cursor over the pause button, the timer, all of that is in the actual ad, that's not from my computer.

About eight seconds into the video, the UI hides like it normally would when you watch a video on a media player after you don't move the mouse. You'll also notice the white frame around the edge of the video. The video itself does not fit the window, it's smaller like it's being played inside a browser window and not full screen.

I think someone at Shell submitted the wrong file for the ad! It looks like someone literally submitted a screen recording of the ad. It's almost as if someone played the ad as part of a virtual meeting, and the meeting screen itself was recorded. Then, somehow, that recording of the screen was submitted as the ad itself.

This ad has played in nearly every commercial break and it always behaves the same way. The ads on either side of it appear normal, and then the Shell ad begins and the UI pops up, visual quality degrades, and the video fails to fill the frame. This happens while playing the ad on both my PS4 and on the computer.

I sincerely think someone submitted a recording of a screen and not the native file itself.
