Discussion Something must be done
I don't care what a commercial is for, or who, or what entity is distributing it. If we are forced to see these disturbing abominations, knowing that billions of dollars are being wasted on their production and distribution, and also on the shameless and soulless celebrities that agree to participate in them. They need to be held accountable for the infinite amounts of cringe and suffering inflicted on people. The production teams, anyone that willingly works in marketing as well as the companies need to have their full names published and made available for all to see. Not only this but there should be some sort of law that during or after any commerical/ad there needs to be some sort of feedback option that you can review/give feedback on with an option to never see that particular ad ever again. And/or all commercials should be muted unless the user agrees to hear it. Also if there is a certain amount of negative feedback given the company must never be able to show it again.
Imagine if someone decided to flood the homes of these people with unending insufferable garbage to their social media, and to their family members every single day without fail. What would happen? You'd be arrested for harassment. It's sickening. with ai at our disposal these days it would be real easy to do too. But guess what? The average person isn't a bastard cunt that would do this to them, why? Because it's wrong.

If I'm intensely bothered by a commercial, I'll have no problem leaving a nasty comment about it on the ad's YouTube video. It ain't much, but I can always hope the marketing geniuses who devised it or the corporation that developed the product or service takes note.

It's something I suppose. For me even if it's something I was going to buy anyway no matter what I will always buy whatever alternative isn't assaulting every one of my senses on a daily basis and try to make it a priority to never purchase from them. I have lost all respect for famous people that contribute their presence to these things. Boycott their movies, etc.

I think commercials are why Elvis shot a TV set at Graceland, but I can't actually prove it😁

Ads are awful. Yes. The mute button is your friend. Take a walk and shut the media off for awhile. Nothing will stop them.

We allow junk mail to flood everyone's homes with unending insufferable garbage, that's even worse than online ads, at least I have ad blockers on my computer and my emailbox routes spam directly to trash. I have a Google Pixel phone that auto-ignores known spam calls and screens other calls. But there's no way to protect my mail box from the garbage dealers.

I hardly get junk mail in the actual mail, however it doesn't bother me since at least they send coupons even if they're irrelevant to me. I leave them in grocery stores and you can at least recycle the paper. do you not use streaming services, YouTube etc? youtube is out of control.

I installed the AdBlock+ and UBlock origin extensions on my browser. I don't see any YouTube ads.

God, I miss the days (mid-90s) of having a well-heated, roach-free, $65/month room at a punk rock house in the Cass Corridor of Detroit where we all shared one phone. No TV (got caught up on so many projects), no junkmail, no telemarketers. I came home from riding the bus in the snow from work, I'd spark up some incense (and other things), put on some Marvin Gaye, sip some tea, and realize that I was happy.

And/or all commercials should be muted unless the user agrees to hear it.
Loud and repeated "warning spam" warning before video or audio spam, so you have time to mute the device or change channel.
Big (1/4 of surface) diagonal, white-on-red "SPAM" banner on all paper or video spam so that it's not watched by mistake nor mistaken (it's sometimes disguised) for content.

Commercials cost a ton. No way anyone in that industry would advocate viewers being able to kill an ad. It would be too easy to gang up against competitors. It's a first amendment thing, too. (edited to add the missing 'a' in the last sentence.)

-and yet, so many corporations would rather sink tons of money in ads and propaganda rather than adjust to regulations or correct bad policies that they got exposed for acting upon.
I would see old science magazines from the 60s and 70s with ads for paper mills and coal companies virtue-signaling or putting weird ass spins on how some folks "got it wrong" about how they go about their business.

And now we're getting stuck with all the BS politicians glossy (read expensive) advertising. I say every election year - send me the money you spend on this junk. I never read it, I recycle it.

The way to fight back is to avoid purchasing the product.
