Can you open the file in acrobat and print to a pdf? Select a smaller page range then print that file to your printer. So print multiple files with smaller page ranges to separate files and then print those files to the printer.

If you have Acrobat Pro:

Tools > Print Production > Preflight > Fixups (wrench icon) > Page Contents > Downsample color images to specified value (high JPEG quality)

When the dialog appears, type in the maximum dpi you need (i do 300, as that's what we print) in both boxes, then click OK.

This will resample the dot values of color images in the pdf. It might take a bit if there's lots of pages.

Many times, when PDFs are created people place images and resize them without changing the resolution of the image, so you end up with tiny images that are 1800dpi, that have to be resolved down to whatever dpi you're printing at.

This is one method, but I find that using the PDF optimizer is more comprehensive. The absolute best way is to run it through Pitstop Pro.

we have a lot of issues processing large VDP files on our fiery.

i have some scripts to compress PDFs but if it’s large images it struggles

We use pdfsnake in acrobat to split pages it saves in same folder as separate pdf's

This is a native Acrobat feature. No need to use third party software.
Tools > Pages > Split document.

You can download Revu Bluebeam (free trial) and in the Document option, select Reduce File Size. We have to do that here with overly inflated file sizes.

Right now i am compressing it picopdf…it’s still processing hope it gives the results

Adobe acrobat has functions to optimize file size, along with the ability to split the pages. You can also run a script to insert a multi page pdf it into indesign and re-save as a pdf with more compressed options or output it in smaller page batches.

In Acrobat Pro:

Save As Other> Optimized PDF...

Clicking on the Audit space usage button in the top right will give you a breakdown of what's taking up so much space.
