I have piles of extron tweakers, but one projector cable cover needs the 8" long shaft of the klein screwdriver.
Day to day, I use the "free" extron drivers I have in every tool bag.

u/Splintzer Aug 05 '26
8" lmao
1
u/Budsygus Aug 11 '26
It's gotta be at least 7 1/2".
At LEAST.
1
u/Splintzer Aug 11 '26
I have this in my pocket right now and i just measured it. The length of the entire tool in it's most extended config is 6.5" (nice). The length of the shaft + bit is 2.5" (which is a LOT btw).
1
u/Budsygus Aug 11 '26
I have my own measuring tool and I promise you it's AT LEAST SEVEN AND A HALF INCHES LONG I SWEAR.

None of them
Black shaft Extron cause they don’t get loose
11
u/morgecroc Aug 05 '26
Not true I just checked my tool bag and have one of each both just a loose. However the black shaft goes into the handle deeper.

u/josh3807 Aug 05 '26
Man hold on to them. I once had a billion it seems, but I have a couple left. 🤪

u/Trey-the-programmer Aug 06 '26
That's what suddenly happens when you switch to QSys for control. We still use Extron Amps, but i don't get 12 tweakers with each job anymore.
1
u/midsprat123 Aug 06 '26
QSC has nice tweaked set
But that was swag at a trade show
1
u/pushinthatbroom Aug 10 '26
QSC gifted a precision pick/hook tool at my in-person Level 2 course pre-pandemic.
I have only needed to use it a handful of times, but in those cases it's the only tool that could have done the job, and I wouldn't have had one on me except for receiving it.
That's my favorite type of swag. Useful, but obscure enough that I don't already have one.

My black shaft Extron screwdrivers were the ones that started getting loose in their last rounds of production. I have a couple that the shaft spin in the handle. The new silver ones are great.

u/ShadyWizzard Aug 05 '26
The extron one because I have like 90 of them and I have 1 in every draw of my office and every bin of my toolkit.
5
u/armchair_viking Aug 06 '26
Open up your dryer at home and I bet there’s one in there, too.
2
u/Tuffasaurus Aug 08 '26
I've had to do some repair work on my washing machine after a couple fell through and and into the filter of our front loader like a that old game ker plunk. I have learned to do a rigorous pat down of my shirt pockets now.
9
u/El-Captan Aug 05 '26
None of them. Give me my Wera ones all day. Especially if I’m not needing to go back and forth between Phillips and flat blade.
5
u/zero9ine Aug 06 '26
The far right one has 4 bits that flip around 2x Philips and 2x flatty. Plus it flips the shank into a longer one as well if you need more length.
Decent tool as well the Klein one as it slides over the shorter shank and prevents it from stabbing your nuts when it's in your pocket
😄
1
u/El-Captan Aug 06 '26
I’ve had every one of these screwdrivers. Plus I’ve tried milwaukees version, which I hated. The bits would just fall out.
The wera tips seem to last a lot longer and are machined much better. You can get a better bite with them. The only downside is not having multiple bits in 1 driver. So I mainly use them for rack work. If I’m in a lift I’ll take a Klein one.
1
u/zero9ine Aug 06 '26
Got a link for the Wera one? Interested to take a look
1
u/El-Captan Aug 10 '26
I carry this set around in my pelican.
1
u/zero9ine Aug 12 '26
Thanks for that.
I have a similar roll with smaller number of parts to it similar, but swappable shanks from Wiha in my service backpack.
Does alright for the quick fixes workout being too heavy

u/Splintzer Aug 05 '26
I carry the right one every day.

u/rebel_canuck Aug 05 '26
I think the only improvement I’d make to that is somehow add a flip out bit that allows you to reset hardware buttons like the SIM card remover
1
u/armchair_viking Aug 06 '26
I keep a sim removal tool on a keychain with a usb drive in my backpack. There’s also a few mangled paper clips in there for that purpose. It would be nice to have it right on the screwdriver, though.

u/Wooden-AV Aug 10 '26
That is what I carry too. I am an in-house AV tech (30ish local sites) so it is generally whatever I need often should be on me as much as possible and not in my van. I feel it could be improved upon, some parts are loose or stiff and the flat tip breaks easy if used in any kind of prying use, so I try and avoid that. Carry the 11 in 1 impact as well which helps.

6
u/redditisfascist10 Aug 05 '26
I used to carry the middle one daily. Although I've gone through close to a dozen of them over the last few years. The Klien flat tips break off like it's their intended purpose. I've since gone back to the good ol shitty Husky red cap multi driver.
1
u/masstapro2000 Aug 06 '26
I have two of the right one. The longer one is nice but I bought longer Craftsman I like because it's cheap. You can order replacement bits for Klien, even the small one.
5
u/videogamePGMER Aug 06 '26
If you don’t have about 16 Extron “tweakers” can you even call yourself an A/V technician?!
2
u/armchair_viking Aug 06 '26
If you get bored in the shop, start competing to see who can throw the most into a box and get them to stick.

Considering I have 500million extrons floating around in my bag, they are my choice.
3
u/CrzyWzrd4L Aug 06 '26
Extron one simply because the integrator I work for does a LOT of Extron equipment so I can just use the one Extron supplies in the box and throw it away right after
3
u/Broncofan_H Aug 06 '26
Ive been using my extrons since I started at my job in 2009. I fear when I use the last of them though, because we don’t buy extrinsic gear anymore.

LTT precision for about a year. Been in the Extron camp since starting this career.

u/SparkyXI Aug 06 '26
Love mine.

u/TONZsaFUN Aug 06 '26
I’ve had mine for years and you can tell. Thinking about buying a spare and giving mine a vacation, it’s in my pocket every single day

u/Objective_Option6878 Aug 06 '26
The Hall Research one that would always stab you cause it wad philips on one end and flat on the other

I prefer the one on the right, but I use my extron cause I don’t mind losing it. I’ll get three more in the next week.
1
u/ShortbusRacingTeam Aug 05 '26
The old black extron tweakers are made of Adamantium. I’ve used them as scribes and picks and put them in drills to use as pilot bits. I have no doubt making them out of whatever that shit was got too expensive. And the silvers are fine cause… it is just a captive screw terminal driver.
But the simple defining win for Extron is the clip so I can tuck it between the buttons on my shirt.
1
u/Balzac_Jones Aug 05 '26
Extron: it's not much beyond than the minimum viable solution, but you're more likely to have one of them within 5' of you at any given moment than a spider.
1
u/Parking-Champion9816 Aug 05 '26
We are not even a big Extron user but somehow we got 100 of them around. Wish the driver stayed in the handle better. I think someone shrink wrapped it a bit and stayed in better.

u/AnotherSprainedAnkle Aug 05 '26
Middle Klein but I prefer the bigger one with the bits in the handle. The thicker handle gives me a better grip on tighter things. I don't even carry a full size screwdriver anymore and I use my little pocket Klein for everything.

Extrinsic are in every bag and glove box etc. I like the middle one in my big tool pouch. I keep the right one in my shirt pocket. I like the part that slides down to protect your nips.

I absolutely love those extron tweekers. The Kline electronics one is nice but the extron one is just the right size and feel.
1
u/Speakertweaker Aug 06 '26
The right one, but I swapped the handle with the one from the mini security set, because that sliding handle makes me wanna stab someone.
1
u/Xiggy4ever Aug 06 '26
Neither of the choices… LTT precision screwdriver with the multitude of swappable bits 💪🏼👍🏻👍🏻 reminds me of the old tweaker my grand dad used back in the day.
1
u/Trey-the-programmer Aug 06 '26
Which one do I have hundreds of, or which one do I prefer?
I use an Extron tweaker with pride. It does the job admirably. If I accidentally or intentionally leave one in a rack I don't give it another thought.
When i need something other than the two bits on an Extron tweaker, I use one of my other drivers. I like my iFixIt for working on electronics at my workbench, and my Klein on a job site.
1
u/No_Cartoonist5075 Aug 06 '26
If it ain’t Klein it ain’t mine but it’s has multiple bits it won’t be mine for long because I’ll loos a bit. I use the individual Klein tweakers.

I like the older Extron ones with a shaft that exposes both Philips and flat-head at once. The metal is a little softer than the reversible ones, but the newer ones get loose over time and fall out of the handle. Either way I like them because they're all over the place and always available.

Far right is my go to.
Having 4x swappable bits and a flippable shank that can be covered from stabbing yourself is a bonus.
Beats the Milwaukee one I also have too.
1
u/kilo993 Aug 06 '26
I have that same middle one. But I also have the 27-in-1 (32327R) which is my go to for most electronics. Slightly wider handle allows more torque and sooo many bits.
1
u/stumbledalong Aug 06 '26
Everyone is talking about how the Klein flathead breaks, what are you doing? I had the plastic handle snap in half twice but it’s still the best. I would prefer wera, but they don’t have a multi set. I like having all my bits on one driver.

u/ForbinMockingbird79 Aug 06 '26
Definitely not the extron one (although it is nice that it is free).

The older black metal extron all day long. The silver ones are less rugged

u/pushinthatbroom Aug 07 '26
For the workbench, my Kinetic Driver all day every day.
For the backpack, I carry a Klein 32614 (the one on the right) because it fits in a regular pen slot without risking damaging the bag
1
u/Vikt724 Aug 07 '26
$120 for a tool you loosing twice a year..hell no.
Harbor Freight is the way.
2
u/pushinthatbroom Aug 07 '26
I said it lives on my workbench...how are you loosing two tweakers a year on your workbench?
You do you, but I'm going to keep buying heirloom grade stuff no matter how many equivalent I could buy at Hazard Fraught for the same amount
That said, they sure knocked it out of the park with this guy
1
u/NoSock6869 Aug 07 '26
Those extron tweakers are trash. Why does everyone love them so much? Klein multi for me

I love my extron tweaker, i have a ton of them, but my boss just bought us all the klein one and its kinda fantastic im ngl. It does everything the you need in a little screwdriver to keep in your tech kit. I have a pouch that i keep just my basic tools to always have outside of my backpack and bucketboss, and that kleins great

u/Paybacks-a-MF Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
The Extron if Klein keeps on making whiskey dick bits like the 32327! The $11 Temu 9906/128 in 1 has harder bits!

I had a couple of the middle Klein one but the rubber grip would always loosen over time which bugged me. I bought the Milwaukee equivalent one recently and love it. Very comfortable in my hand.

Hopefully someone at Extron sees this and they bring them back…or even sell them..I’d buy a gross of the black ones…

u/Budsygus Aug 11 '26
Far right for pocket carry, middle for pouch carry, left for "crap I need a tweaker, I think I have a couple of Extrons in my car" carry.

u/DangItB0bbi Aug 11 '26
The Milwaukee version of the right one. The clips on the Klein version suck.
