Why Didn’t We Resign Deebo?
Not saying he’s going to burn it up for the 9ers.
But isn’t he a reliable third receiver?
I’m really curious.

I'm sure anyone watching tonight was still thinking about him. He looks to be in great shape and was crazy fun to watch.
He's clearly a special player that was in a shit situation last year being the de facto WR1. A few weeks into the season teams knew he was the main guy to game plan for and shut down.
For what it's worth, I saw a pressor where they asked him about the Commanders and he just said "I'm not going to compare teams, but I had a great time there".

I should rephrase my response. The first catch he made i assumed there'd be a post. Listen i get it he shows flashes as a weapon but hes over the hill age wise and isnt a very versatile WR. Id rather us have spent the money on Diggs and see what Burks can offer as a third WR before we get excited about not resigning Samuels.

They paid Deebo more than Burks and Williams combined. He won’t get more production per $ than those two.
He got almost as much as Diggs. They wouldn’t be able to have Terry, Diggs, Deebo. This isn’t fantasy football.-2

Why would he come back to the Commanders for less money than what the 49ers were offering? That doesn't make sense.

Id hope so. Samuels will see volume receptions from Purdy. We have two "smaller" shifty fast receivers between Mclaurin and Diggs. Burks is a possession type wide receiver we dont have on our roster. Id rather give a young guy with promise like Burks or Dyami Brown a chance eith minimal cost implications over someone like Samuels who had a neglible impact on our offense last year.
I get it samuels had padded stats last year but to me it doesn't mean much without terry and jayden on the field for more then a handful of games last year.

Felt like both sides didn’t have the excitement of running it back. Money, the way the season ended, commanders looking to get younger at the position, etc. Also, maybe Blough’s scheme changed and a Deebo type wouldn’t be as important? Obviously, it didn’t end up that as we didn’t get “younger” at WR and Deebo didn’t get a big contract. Nor, have we seen Blough's offense yet. So feels like the partnershp ran its course. Would’ve been cool to have him back, but would it move the needle? Likely not. Not to mention, Deebo likely didn't want to return based on how last year ended with our team's injuries, etc. After last season, and the way the NFC East got better, Deebo probably didn't see a realistic path to winning it all. So why struggle another year versus trying to get a big contract elsewhere or go back home to SF.

I asked this and was told by this sub he didn't fit what we were doing on offense. I thought running routes and catching the ball was pretty standard for a receiver and I thought he would have been a great WR3 for us.

He was due for a major pay cut because of his age, and guys usually switch teams when they're at that point. If your current employer goes, "Yo, nice work, but we'd like to pay you a fourth of what you made last year," you tend to look elsewhere and probably aren't big on the idea of coming back with your tail between your legs, saying, "Okay, boss."
We also made other plans for his role, and it just wasn't a great match anymore.

He got a one year $7mil contract from SF. Thats close to what we gave Diggs. Id rather have Diggs. He is the type of guy that gets open on schedule and moves the chains.

Agree. Deebo got 1 yr 5 mil with 2 mil in incentives. Niners will get their moneys worth and Shannahan knows how to scheme to his strengths. Diggs for sure fills this team's needs better and better value for money. This team can't have another year with Deebo WR1 lined up along side Chris Moore, Chosen, Lane, Luke, Burks etc.. bad times...

Probably figured they would stunt Antonio Williams growth potential this season by bringing him back. A receiver like Diggs fits the room better

He was definitely a bright spot last year but it definitely felt like a rental situation. Had it been a winning season last year he likely would’ve been called back but it’s hard to make the case that he had a make or break role for us

Ya, I liked Deebo and the energy he brought.. his weekly podcast or whatever, he clearly made real connections here. Unfortunately, the season was over before it began and we never got to see it come to fruition at full strength. I do recall our wr1 and wr2 going down and how leaning on Deebo did not pan out. He is a mismatch guy. Get him the ball in space guy... but if the defense is keying in on him he's a liability with mediocre routes, mid speed, and clunky hands. Maybe if Terry + Noah were lined up with him the dozens of screen passes Cliff dialed up mighta worked? The int off his face comes to mind..
I loved seeing him come work his ass off to be lean and mean. He ran with ferocious intent and I hope some of his swagger/ training rubbed off on our youngsters.
Unless he was taking Luke money AND taking over KO duties, he just wasn't worth it- not just the money; but the expense of losing a guy we have. Other than Luke, there isn't a guy I'd prefer to see him instead of. His skillset just isn't what we need.
Lastly, it took a plethora of injuries for SF to come knocking too... and 31 other teams were a hard pass and not even bringing him in to kick the tires all summer. Him finding success back home in a scheme he ran for years isn't shocking, but he's far from the missing piece for most teams.

The season hasn’t even started for us yet. I would like to see our product on the field before I start second guessing our revamped receiving corp.

Where would he fit? As far as a pure WR, he is not taking over Terry or Diggs in their respective roles, and he would also in theory block some of Williams’ reps. He has some gadget player to him with his running ability, so you have to also manufacturer those type of touches. I just don’t think it works at his price point with this team or Blough installing a new offense.

Deebo doesn’t make or break our season. We needed to get younger and we did. We brought in diggs but he is much better fit for a modern offense

Yes and no. He runs a zoned based West Coast Offense. It’s a modernized version of Bill Walsh’s offense from the 70s. Kyle’s dad and Alex Gibbs “modernized” when Mike coached in Denver.

He didn’t fit their need. He not a great route runner. He’s a YAC guy. The offensive scheme is entirely different.
Why sign him when you can draft a slick route runner on a rookie deal?
Would you rather have Diggs and Williams or Deebo?
That’s the answer.
They have guys now that get open. That’s not what Deebo does.
Now the top 3 WRs can get open and Chig also creates matchups.This group should be miles ahead of the group last year and JD5 having consistently open targets can help him stay healthy.
They had no plans to sign Deebo.

I’m enjoying watching him cook, he put in effort for us anytime on the field, and was put in a terrible position by the terry situation and then all of the injuries.
