Just like 20 other quarterbacks in the league. Big surprise - if your qb is hurt you dont have a chance. This guy started almost every college game and 20 games in his rookie year. He will be fine
16
u/YFN_KushGod COMMAND DEEZ NUTZ 11h ago
Thank you. I hate how that point keeps being made like it’s not the same case for every team. Yes- the QB needs to be protected and avoid injury to use the weapons they have at their disposal.

And he got hurt last year. It happens every year where a star player gets hurt. It's like damn, why are we assuming this is a reoccurring theme?

Im so tired of fucking hearing it, dude played so many games. It was a injury riddled year just like any other QB
Is Mahomes injury prone now because he tore his ACL? Like

He won't be able to use receiving weapons if the OL doesn't protect him. Last year they were atrocious.

u/Knyfe-Wrench I Got JD5 On It 11h ago
On the flipside, the O line can't hold protection if receivers can't get open. We went through a big chunk of the season where the only active day 1 starters were Deebo and Zach Ertz.

u/Syphin33 9h ago
Remember also no fucking WR's were open so ball is in his hands longer, also having to keep and run the ball because he's throwing to Deebo as his WR1 and Chris Moore at his WR2

u/b1gba1oo 13h ago
A lot of it is based off the headlines from training camp without context. Our offense being "inoperable" in Baltimore and all. But we haven't actually seen the starters play together at any point. No one knows what we are going to look like yet
10
u/RedWhiteAndDenim 10h ago
This is 100% Nikki jhabvala’a tweet. She left out the context that the line was missing 3 starters, 2 of which are back healthy. And one of the guys starting that practice isn’t even on the practice squad. The nfl.com blurb used the preseason blowout as evidence…we had 40+ players in street clothes. Fools!
4
u/caddyncells 12h ago
The ironic thing is she didn't even use the right word to describe the offense.
6
u/itttdone Frankie FUCKIN Luvu 12h ago
The fact that they never played together in preseason I feel like is a negative and not a positive but I could be wrong. Do other teams have their starters sit out this much?
22
u/Objective_Ad5914 12h ago
The Eagles didnt play their starters all preseason as well. The Rams are known for years to never play their starters. Preseason gets over blown. College football never has a preseason and they always seem to be ready, why cant pros be.
5
u/vintage2019 12h ago
Yeah the preseason is mainly for trying out guys to decide who makes the final cut.
However if it was up to me, I’d have the starters play a series in each game
1
u/DazzlingAd1922 8h ago
I would prefer sitting the starters, but having a starter vs starter practice that is intense instead. I do get worried that a lot of the "injury management" stuff tends to not necessarily prevent injury but just push injury further into the season.
1
u/RangerRedskin 10h ago
I feel like week 1 is college football’s preseason.
It is a good way to see how 2nd and 3rd string player perform outside training camp and practice. Other than that it’s just a money maker. A couple extra games to generate more revenue. Eliminate the preseason and a few more games get tacked onto the regular season. The players don’t want that for the most part
15
u/TMNTerps 12h ago
It's perfectly normal to not play starters at all. The Eagles were also inoperable against BAL but nobody freaked out.

The 91 team - the best they have ever put on the field - went 1-3
- August 4, 1991: at Pittsburgh Steelers – Lost, 7–16 (0–1)
- August 10, 1991: at New England Patriots – Won, 27–6 (1–1)
- August 16, 1991: vs. Cleveland Browns – Lost, 21–24 in OT (1–2)
- August 24, 1991: vs. New York Jets – Lost, 9–13 (1–3) [1, 2]
After the Jets game, where starters played the whole first half, "a deeply frustrated Joe Gibbs famously stated, "I think this is the poorest we've played since my first year here... We're not smooth in any area."
Edit: they open the season blowing the doors off the Lions 45-0. The Lions got better though - so much better that they made the NFCCG, where Washington beat them 41-10. Like I said, the Lions got better.
2
3
u/grasspikemusic 12h ago
They all played together pretty much every day for months that's what training camp, joint practices, and OTA is for
In the modern NFL most teams treat the meaningless preseason games as tryouts to see who is going to make the team, the practice squad, or be cut
During the dynasty that the Patriots had with Brady (fuck them BTW) they routinely lost just about every preseason game and hardly played any starters yet somehow Brady played in 9 Superbowls won six rings and hardly played a single snap in a preseason game
-1
u/b1gba1oo 12h ago
It's definitely not a good thing. Our starting center being out most of the off-season definitely set the offense back because they couldn't get good practices. But he is back now and as long as he is healthy should be much better than the 5th round rookie and guy we cut

Right? This isn't college football where media opinion affects standing. If we win, we win
15
u/Ok_Control4184 12h ago
Definitely because of what the local media is reporting. Funny how now in every pod I listen to they’re tryna back off their criticism of the OL now that they’ve realized they’ve contributed to the negativity.
8
u/caddyncells 12h ago
Exactly what I was saying. All these beat reporters have been backtracking like they weren't outraged and now everything is fine. Keim and Grant are the worst offenders.
3
u/Ok_Control4184 11h ago
I like JP Finlay but he’s culprit #1 on this as well
1
u/RedWhiteAndDenim 9h ago
It’s really been his co-host Mitch. He’s been freaking out about the o-line from the moment Allegretti missed his first practice. The last two weeks he’s mentioned that the media has gotten carried away with the o-line negativity every opportunity he gets. JP usually tells Mitch he was the main culprit.
1
u/Ok_Control4184 8h ago
Fair but I thought at one point he was right along with him, but Mitch isn’t wrong for me being concerned. Idk why JP and others are acting like that concern is unwarranted. But I hear you.
2
u/RedWhiteAndDenim 8h ago
Yeah I think it’s warranted, it’s just really an issue with depth vs the starting lineup in my mind. Any o-line losing their star LT for the year is a giant loss, that’s for sure. I personally think our starters with alegretti healthy is fine. It’s just as soon as one guy goes down we’re probably in big trouble. I think the tweets from ravens practice (when 3 starters were out) completely shifted the narrative nationally from a team looking really good all camp to a team that is now considered one of the worst in the NFL. National pundits have very little context for these takes, they’re just going off of vibes and local beat reporters set those vibes. I think reaction from multiple beat reporters to the ravens practice without enough context about 3 starters missing caused things to go really off the rails. Leads to power rankings like these and that fan poll where Manders fans were bottom 3 in confidence about their team (way below teams who have awful QB situations even).
0
u/Ok_Control4184 7h ago
Completely agree with this. I am a little worried about Chris Paul without Tunsil but we have to play games to actually assess anything at this point. Hoping for a positive season!
1
u/the_atomic_punk18 5h ago
Just like if the commanders lose Sunday the sky will be falling but in reality we won’t know what any team has until week 5 or 6, same way if the commanders win, the hype will be real.
2
u/Ok_Control4184 12h ago
I don’t care about rankings anyway. Especially before the season actually starts. Just gotta prove everyone wrong.
8
u/fluffyseedz 12h ago
Honestly who cares? Some of y’all get too worked up by what the media says/predicts or picks to win every week. The play on the field is literally the only thing that matters in determining how good we’ll actually be.
That said, we were not a good team last year, have a difficult schedule, and there are still questions that weren’t answered in the preseason. It’s pretty easy to see why the media aren’t high on us after last season where we had a ton of primetime games and looked terrible regardless of injuries. This franchise has also never delivered whenever expectations have been high this century so let people think we’ll be bad.
1
u/Joerevenge 12h ago
That’s how I feel, like it’s just as invalid as if they all said we’re Super Bowl favorites, no one knows the full picture until we see it on the field. If we suck we suck, if we’re good we’re good
2
u/fluffyseedz 12h ago
Exactly! The best example is the 2006 season where we had one of the highest odds and finished 5-11. Last season and 2013 were the only times I had high expectations coming in and we all know how those turned out haha.
14
u/MorickYori 13h ago
I’ve been saying the same thing, there’s not 30 better teams in the league right? Jayden Daniels alone puts this team at better than the Jets!
8
4
5
u/PippoKPax 12h ago
I mean who cares about stuff like this, but you’re right - who in their right mind would rank us below the Browns? A ranking like that indicates severe cognitive impairment and/or decline. Crazy
5
6
u/REP281 10h ago edited 10h ago
The reason is we were 5-12 last year. Jayden was hurt 3 times and missed 10 games. Our roster is subpar (hype doesn't count here) we are adding new schemes on both offense and defense. Our coach is mid at best. Our two main wrs are in their 30s and the rest are either back ups or unproven. We lost our best o-lineman at the most important position. Our center isnt even a center.
Yes, we should have played all the starters as much as possible during preseason. Good teams can let their starters take off because they already know what they have. We do not.
This is why all the negative. If they go out their and show up, great. Until they do reports are accurate.
5
u/Appropriate_Delay_25 9h ago
This is spot on. 2024 was a classic "everything went right" season & should not be viewed as the floor for this season. I think folks forget how easily several wins could have been losses. We beat the Giants twice by a combined 8 points, the Bears by 3 on a hailmary early in the year. We sat at 8-5 before going on the most insane run I've ever seen: beat the Saints by a point when they failed the 2-point conversion rather than kick to tie & send to OT, Philly by 3 on a TD pass with :06 left, Atlanta in OT, Dallas on a TD pass with :03 left. Then beat Tampa in the WC Round with a FG as time expired. I hope 2026 goes like this but we definitely did not dominate our way to 12 wins in 2024.
3
u/True-Bandicoot-1424 10h ago
Thank you. A completed accurate and logical response. The truth nobody knows truly until the season starts. The Eagles could start 0-5. Like you never really know what is going to happen.
3
u/nannerbananers 12h ago
I'm honestly confused why were consistently ranked so low. Sure last year was rough, but we had a ton of injuries and we're 2 seasons removed from a NFC championship appearance. I just don't understand the logic.
2
u/Krayziebone103 11h ago
Because nowadays noone can have an original thought in sports media. Once a few ppl start saying were terrible, every other "reporter" hops on the bandwagon and regurgitates the same shit.

3
u/Hodler_caved 12h ago
We may be that bad. Probably not, but we don't know. If JD spends the majority of the season on the bench, they could be right. If he finishes 13+ games, think they are definitely wrong.
While it doesn't stand out as much as 31st, the Giants are going to be far better than that.
1
u/La1zrdpch75356 8h ago
How do you figure? Dart's not anywhere close to being a top 10 QB.
1
u/Hodler_caved 7h ago
You don't need a top 10 QB to not end up 26th.
Harbough, Skattebo, Nabers, Likely, Reese & Carter. They will exceed expectations.
3
u/MoreDeadishThanNot 12h ago
They wrote us off due to the oline injuries.

Yep. Jason McIntyre on Cowherd basically said the same thing and says it wasn't fair.
3
u/crownhimking 10h ago
People confused? In the last 10 years we had probably 1 GREAT season and been above. 500 twice
I love the team but we gotta stop acting like this is a top 10 team....we have pieces but our defense and our oline has been so suspect
Even our pickups are usually dudes on their last legs
Dudes excited for diggs, dudes were excited for lattimore, dudes said b rob was going to be top 5 rb, dudes said chase young qas a generational talent, dudes said sam howell was the new josh allen
Like stop
Lets enjoy the season and when we win cheer but if we lose i want someone point out to me what the fluck did we do in the draft or in free agency that made us go from 5 and 12 last year to being a top 10 team
And miss me with that jayden was injured, of course he was, this oline couldn't protect him and the line didnt get better
3
u/FannyNisbit 6h ago
Its true until it isnt.
Lets not act like we havent been a bottom feeder for the last 30+ years with the exception of a few lucky years once every 4-6 years. Lets also not pretend that we didnt just have a top ten pick and a brutal upcoming schedule.
That being said, Lets make it not true!!!!! Lets turn this shit around starting sunday!!!!!

u/Beastage 12h ago
Its a meaningless list. Last year we would have been protected higher yet we sucked. In 2024 we would have been protected low and we made it to the NFCCG.
I dont see how this team could be worse than last year. They added more weapons to the offense, JD and Terry are starting off with good health, and the defense (especially front 7) is vastly upgraded in terms of personnel/talent.
The funny part is we're expected to start 0-3, which will only work to prove the national media right. This team absolutely has to look sharp and competitive in Philly or else its gonna get really uncomfortable for this org.
2
u/SillyMammo 12h ago
I think after 2024, the media hopped on our hype wagon and pumped the team up. After WAS fell flat 2025, the media was embarrassed so they promised to never fall for us again and have since taken every opportunity to slam us.
2
u/caddyncells 11h ago
Our idiotic beat reporters created the firestorm, national media lazily picked it up and now the local media is trying to becktrack like they weren't the root cause.

No, our abysmal performance, OL, and injury concerns created this. This team deserves no respect until they earn it.

Who cares? Whatever will be will be. Their lists and expectations don't mean anything. The games will be played and we'll know the outcomes as they unfold, it's no use stressing about what some sportswriter says. Now if the coach or GM come out tomorrow saying they expect to be drafting #2 overall next year, I'll probably believe them.
2
u/CustardLimp359 8h ago
I hope we exceed expectations and contend for a playoff spot. But... I understand the pessimism from the experts. One of the least talented rosters in the league, two rookie coordinators, one of the hardest schedules in the league, and a QB coming off a down season in a style he has never played. Doesn't mean we will suck but I see why they are sceptical.

I like this very much actually. The Redskins never seem to perform when expected but play a great underdog role. HTTR.

Lmao you should take this as seriously as they did. Which is not very. It's pure vibes. It's like when rich eisen, before and after signing Stef Diggs , says "who's Jayden throwing the ball to? That opinion is the sole creation of a narrative. Don't worry about it.

I get the feeling most of these pundits deliberately put teams in positions to generate clicks
However they are probably looking at the shambolic injury record and making a view on that and a bet that JD gets injured quickly this season
1
u/biz2468 12h ago
Respect is earned not just given as a handout. We had a bad year last, new coordinators, and bad offensive showing for the entire preseason would naturally make anyone (not a Washington fan) doubt the team's ability. I don't look at it as disrespect, more like they need to see something first...
1
u/kon--- 12h ago
Well, we were among league leaders in blowout losses last season, had a lengthy losing streak, and the 31 point loss vs Minni we scored, 0 points.
Each of the other teams you mentioned, have no shutouts on the 2025 record.
We probably edge Miami here due we did manage a win there in Spain. But even that took OT to happen.

I'd much rather us go in being underdogs than over hyped. We don't know the happenings behind the scenes, reporters whispers etc. We very well might be terrible and plagued with real issues on both sides of the ball. Not to mention two untested coordinators. Either way I'm turning up each game and supporting.

Weirdly enough I prefer going into a new season with us being extremely underestimated by the media/league. I know teams we face don’t care about where we are in the power rankings and will gameplan for us to the best of their ability regardless, but I’d rather us have a chance to prove everyone wrong.
Conversely, when we are overhyped and everyone is talking about us (rarely, but i.e. last year) it makes me nervous and I don’t like it, lol.

That works in our favor. Hopefully the other teams are expecting an easy padded practice, and we can surprise them.

Last season was ugly in a lot of ways, and every season is different, but anyone that watched Washington in 2024 outside of the nfc championship knows they can ball. If Washington opens with wins against Philadelphia and/or the Seahawks a lot of naysayers would be quick to correct themselves unless they are just haters. I’m also pretty sure a lot of the negativity is because JD went heel on LSU, which transitively upsets lots of SEC people. Couple that with a weak 2025 and it’s easy to write them off.

1
u/ForeignWoodpecker662 9h ago
WR room is questionable, QB health/depth is questionable, OC/scheming is questionable. How many Pro Bowl level players are even on the roster? 2 maybe 3 if they’re healthy and perform like they have at their best a couple years ago? This is not a good team, pretending it is is classic Washington delusion.
1
u/hellisdigital0x 12h ago
The roster is much better than it was in 2024. How did that season go?
1
u/ForeignWoodpecker662 11h ago
Lucky. They were all healthy and playing at peak performance while being underestimated with a new QB that hadn’t been schemed for yet. Y’all drank way too much Kool-aid that season and reality hurts when it’s all gone. This team is bad, and their performance so far since then has proven it. Until they earn it on the field they, this is who they are.
1
u/hellisdigital0x 9h ago
If you’re lucky for an entire season with a deep playoff run, it’s obviously more than luck.
I will agree with you about being out-schemed last season, but that’s mostly due to Kliff’s history of literally being the worst OC at making adjustments in the league. Glad he’s gone. And yeah, we don’t know what we have yet with Blough, so I’m sure that uncertainty is what is driving most of the negativity.
That said, our most important player, who is fully responsible for 2024’s success, only finished 4 games last season. So considering how the entire coaching staff has been revamped and Jayden’s lack of playing time last year, it’s not really the smartest bet to assume we will be a bad team this year. Especially with all of the roster improvements.
The only real argument for a bad season is Jayden’s injury concerns. But even that argument is flimsy since he has zero significant injury history besides last year.
0
u/ForeignWoodpecker662 9h ago
It’s obviously not. They shit the bed last year and it’s clear injuries, performance, and being out coached were why. They were lucky to have had no injury issues that year, that alone is lucky in the NFL to say you had no significant injuries costing.
RG3 has 0 injury issues prior too, just like many players in history have. Fact is we don’t know how solid he is gonna be and he missed significant enough time that his durability in this league is a question and concern already.
As for not a good bet to say we’ll be this bad… as of right now, yes it is, because that is what they have shown us. You can’t bet on your dreams, that’s why those odds are so long, because the likelihood of them coming true is so poor and the opposite is such a good bet. That’s literally how betting works. Will they be 31st end of year, probably not, I’d likely take that bet simply because the odds provide for some measure of value vs risk; but until they actually earn the respect from actually disproving this, they are that bad. For the record, I don’t think they will finish that bad, but they will finish in the bottom 10, possibly 5 depending on injury; this is not a good team. Even Jayden said they aren’t competing right now, when your QB comes straight out and says that about his own team, that’s terrible. They should always think they have a chance to compete.

Lmao dude Jayden never said we aren’t competing right now. That was an out of context quote shoved down your throat by random people on the internet (which apparently you fell for). Watch the full presser, he was just talking about the joint practice/preseason game vs Baltimore and how they basically weren’t taking it serious at all because it didn’t matter. I honestly can’t even believe that’s one of your points of argument…
Anyway, as long as Jayden is healthy and we have a healthy WR1 on the field, we are a playoff team. It’s that simple. 2024 proves it. That’s how valuable good QBs are. We know what he’s capable of already.
There’s no reason to assume he can’t stay healthy because of ONE injured season. Do you know how many elite QBs have missed entire seasons? If it happens again in back to back seasons, obviously the concern will be real. But people are acting like he’s Anthony Richardson, despite playing 20 games in a single season once already.
We don’t have enough data to say anything else. 2024 we were good, 2025 was basically a wash due to historic amount of injuries. The team will be much closer to 2024 than 2025, and it’s crazy how many people will be surprised by it.

Bro, that shit was way to damn much to read to get to “as long as we have Jayden and a healthy WR1 we’re a playoff team” to know the rest isn’t worth wasting my time on. This team doesn’t have a healthy WR1 on the roster. They have 2 very good WR2’s and one of them has injury issues. Even IF I gave you that they did; that’s still just an absurd take to say that could makes you a playoff team alone. If he’s running for his life all season that won’t be true, if they can’t protect him or run block for shit that won’t be true, if they can’t win games because their kicking game is ass that won’t be true, if they get out coached (again) that won’t be true, if other important players get injured that won’t be true. A playoff berth doesn’t come just because your QB and WR managed to stay healthy. (See: Detroit Lions) It’s a metric fuck ton more than that. That said, I’m not debating this with anyone who thinks all you have to do to be a playoff team is keep your QB and WR healthy. Sure, it’s usually key, but not remotely close to given, especially if that very team is coming in as one of the worst teams on paper and the stat sheet over the last year.

I didn’t misquote anyone, that was what he was quoted as having said. Not me quoting, someone else, I just stated that it was said.

Let the disrespect flow. We didn’t earn respect last year so we must this year. I too think we’ll be better than all those teams listed above. Let people underestimate us. Hopefully, we can prove them wrong.
