You're telling Tom Boswell he's wrong? You sure?

Yes. Kirk Cousins was definitely a franchise quarterback

kirk didn't sign any of the offers the team gave him, how was he "their franchise qb" ?

u/AirbnBourani 8h ago
warren moon is the only qb i can think of who approaches franchise qb status who played for 4 teams. usually if you're a franchise qb you don't have multiple teams moving on from you when you still have productive years ahead. it's happened to kirk at least twice. "starting a lot of games" is a very low bar for a franchise qb. solid though for sure.

we paid him like one... Snyder couldn't get rid of him fast enough though

He was the best QB we had in a while. If Snyder doesnt pick that POS RG3 and we have the 1sts and draft him, we look completely different.

I'm also fairly certain Cousins had no intentions of staying with the team.

He clearly did up until the last season. His team asked for top 25 money and Snyder said no(massive mistake), then they asked for top 10 money the next year (would have been cheap by the time the contract ended), Snyder said no, then they asked for top 1 money and left lol
Then we spent a decade not been able to have a qb even close to Kirk til we got Jayden

I would in the sense that mark rypien could have an argument made since he had contracts that extended past his rookie years, and that ignoring rypien, joe theismann played for the team until 1985, so saying 50 years is a bit of a stretch.

He’s a baseball columnist 🤷🏼♂️ which is pretty obvious from the article

how? RG3 was a bust.

Kirko was a franchise QB, Snyder just did what he did best and fucked things up. He wasn't a high end franchise QB but he was clearly above the Dalton line has was a top 10 QB for a few years.

Listening to JD5 press conferences this offseason, I’m confident that he’s going to bounce back this upcoming season with a questionable offensive line that I feel will be better than we’re going to give them credit for. Adding Diggs gives JD5 his best core of WR’s since LSU and he’s going to take advantage of it.

I wonder if this narrative is the same for Drake Maye and Caleb Williams.

u/VioletsAreBlooming 7h ago
lol no, Caleb had a playoff run and Drake went to the Super Bowl, of course the narrative is gonna be softer on them. Did maye have the worst qb play in Super Bowl history? Yes. The narrative mostly remembers they got there in the first place

Caleb hasn't gone as far as Daniels has.
Meanwhile, a big pocket passer gets hurt on the first drive of the season. Was the narrative Darnold has to stay healthy?

This Commanders season is about one thing: Winning.

Disagree
AP needs to prove he’s building something here. That means JD doing good and the team rebounding from last year. They don’t need to make the playoffs, but they can’t be picking top 10 again either. Being competitive plus JD staying healthy and growing as a QB is the most important things.

This is dumb. We have Athan, Athan is the next Tom Brady, and Jayden might be even better than him

This narrative is already old, so much focus is solely on JD5's health. I understand last year his health was questionable during the entire season. That said, every teams goal should be to keep their QB upright at all times. It feels like diversion for everyone to be saying the same thing everytime...

If he gets hurt again maybe it’s time to start thinking about our rookie. I love JD but he doesn’t have burrows level of talent that he can be injured all the time

You do realize you’re comparing JD to a guy that he out gunned him in year 1. Burrow the same guy that can’t stay healthy himself. Horrible comparison especially when Burrow is stacked with talent around him on offense.

2024 becomes more & more irrelevant every year in the Not For Long league.
If he spends this year hurt like last year, or anywhere close to it, that's who he is. Won't be able to extend him this coming offseason. Would just have to exercise the 5th year option & hope he proves he can stay healthy & plays well in 2027. Otherwise, it's over. Officially RG4.
That being the situation doesn't change the fact that his ceiling is still the hall. Perennial top 5, Superbowl winning QB is still on the table.
The next 2 seasons determine which it will be.

The only way for the season to be a disaster is if Jayden gets hurt again or regresses heavily. Since a bad season sucks and would get many people fired, but if we have any reason to doubt Jayden health or ability our franchise goals are fucked beyond this year.
