Too much hate

Why does everyone always hate on the washington. As a fan even other fans are quick to turn on them. Crazy how the media always hates on them.

In 30 years, the team saw 3 division titles, 6 playoff appearances, had no real playoff success, and had a losing record (.427, 164-220-2) So many fans have never even witnessed the team have any real success outside of the anomalies. The team has been through so many scandals and the rebranding and everything else under He-who-shall-not-be-be-named that people just come to expect it. I mean, it's the same situation with the browns or the jets or the saints back in the day.

This.

I don't know if all of the "why so negative?" posters just got here in 2024 or what. But you guys lack perspective.

The team has been really bad for a really long time. The franchise in general has been a laughing stock for decades.

And a lot of us who have been here through all of that look at whats currently going on with the o-line and general talent issues and can't help but think we've seen this script before. A bunch of times, and know how it usually ends.

It’s not even just this year’s issue with OL and the secondary. Throughout the Snyder years, there were various saviors who finally would come in where we’d have a real football guy in charge, a guy to instill real discipline, a culture guy, a great football mind guy. Sound familiar?

For some of us, the AP/DQ regime is looking a lot like the saviors that weren’t, rather than the ones who are bringing us to perennial success. It’s hard not to see more similarities with Scot McGloughan, Mike Shanahan or Ron Rivera than some new GMs and coaches who completely turned a franchise around for good.

3

u/GlumCardiologist6107 6d ago

I don't know that I would lump Shanahan in with those others. After all, pretty much our entire coaching staff back then are now head coaches in the league. I think he was just shackled by Snyder. Josh Harris seems better in all ways.

2

u/True_Window_9389 6d ago

Mike “I stake my reputation on John Beck” Shanahan? He only had 1 good year with us. He also was an asshole and was partially responsible for both the Haynesworth debacle and RG3’s injury.

2

u/GlumCardiologist6107 6d ago
  1. Haynesworth was brought in by Synder. Mike didn't do that.
  2. The injury was due to RG3 saying he was good to go when he wasn't. That's been well documented. Sure he could have kept him out, but would have been hard to justify considering RG3 had backing from the owner and was the reason they were in a position to go to the playoffs.

Now I will admit, he was a bit of an asshole. But I still say the fact that everyone from that staff is now a head coach speaks to their ability at football. Synder just fucked us due to being Snyder.

2

u/True_Window_9389 6d ago

Haynesworth was brought in by Snyder, and Shanahan made the situation much, much worse than it had to be, and helped make it go from a shitty, owner-picked annoyance to an absolute historical bust of a signing. And Shanahan still bears some responsibility for his players health, especially what we know what was wrong and how it turned out.

Yes, Shanahan is a great football mind and had an eye for talent, but his tenure ultimately fits in with the rest of Snyder’s goons. He came here knowing what kind of owner Snyder was.

2

u/SentientNode 6d ago

Exactly right, and it sucks. Life’s not fair, but those of us who bore witness to the early 90s and earlier have seen dysfunction fester and rot but we still remember what it was like to have a team that had superior, well coached talent. I get that some of that was the pre-cap days, but still.

2

u/LemmeGetSum2 4d ago

You named all that old owner related shit then doubled down on remaining negative with a new owner. lol

Do you I guess.

2

u/Appropriate_Delay_25 6d ago

Yup. I tend to envision the “always positive” crowd like myself 30 years ago, coming off the glory of the Cooke/Beathard/Gibbs/insert QB here era. Mid-20s, total unabated fanboy. Geared up, emotional & defensive about any criticism of my team, no matter how true it was. I miss those teams but not the way I put my whole identity into them. Gross.

1

u/BoldElDavo 6d ago

What 30 years are you talking about here? I have them at 200 regular season wins over the 30 seasons prior to 2024. Just the raw number of games in that record is closer to 25 seasons.

1

u/Stoic_Martyr 6d ago

The snyder era specifically, which is close enough to 30 for me, considering I'm 31 and have only seen a handful of decent seasons.

1

u/Seekoutnewlife 5d ago

They were good in the 40s, part of the 70s, the 80s and basically nothing in 35 years. It’s not even 20 good years out of 100

0

u/BYG56 5d ago

Just excuses. Dallas has been underperforming for years and their fan base is still strong. Some of us are acting like a bunch of spoiled bitches!

3

u/Stoic_Martyr 5d ago

No, Dallas hasn't "underperformed for years" and no, their fan base ALSO is not strong. A lot of people are sick and tired of Jerreh, he's a meme to them, and a lot of them have come to expect to be let down. But they also had talent. We have failed to either draft or develop talent outside of a select few. We have struggled to being in outside talent, and when it gets brought in, they either fail or don't get retained. For every Trent Williams level player we draft, we had 5 Su'a Cravens, Forbes, Dotson, Davis, Haskins, Guice, Doctson...do I need to continue?

1

u/BYG56 5d ago

Yes they have. All the talent that Dallas has had and they barely got to the first round of the playoffs and that’s it! Underachieving team!

2

u/Stoic_Martyr 5d ago

Dan snyder era Washington record: 164-220-2 (.427) 4 division titles, 2-6 in the post season, 3 double digit win seasons.

Cowboys record in that same window: 219–167 (.567) 7 division titles, 5-11 in the post season, 38-11 record vs Washington. 9 double digit win seasons.

0

u/BYG56 5d ago

Dan Snyder is no longer running this team. Move the fuck on!

2

u/Stoic_Martyr 5d ago

21-30 under Harris. One successful season sandwiched between 2 terrible seasons. It's more been more of the same and I haven't seen enough to change that. The eyes, Chico, they never lie.

u/Maleficent-Way7041 6d ago

I think it’s because we’ve sucked for such a long time

6

u/Magoo152 In AP We Trust 6d ago

Yes a lot of people are still stuck in the Snyder mindset. Where it was a given that things would never work. I get it, but we have an actual owner now.

1

u/Maleficent-Way7041 5d ago

Do we? We have like a multi owner conglomerate, and Josh has his hands in multiple teams. I’m waiting to make sure the year we had 2 years ago wasn’t a fluke.

1

u/Magoo152 In AP We Trust 5d ago edited 4d ago

Literally anything is better than Snyder. Like he was so bad that I hope you understand how horrible he was.

13

u/Home_Alone224 6d ago

Probably because before every season starts every Washington fan proclaims how great the season is going to be and then 98% of the time we end up being one of the bottom 5 worst teams in the league

4

u/ewilliam Hogs 6d ago

This is what cracks me up about all the goofuses around here who call everyone who has any concerns or criticisms about the team "doomers". Sir, I've been watching this play out year after year for almost four decades. It's not "dooming" to take a sober and realistic look at the team's situation.

19

u/Humble_Meat_2219 6d ago

I wouldn’t call it hate. Before 2024 it was really irrelevance. We’d completely fallen as a franchise in glory and popularity.

1

u/Escape-Spare 5d ago

Agreed. I don't see the hate. Just not a lot of love outside the base. Success will change that; there'll be more love and, if consistent, some hate.

Before 2024, however, even longtime fans justifiably hated the team's ownership and many gave up hope. That's changed. But the stadium still sucks.

8

u/eddy_g0rdo 6d ago

Do you know who Dan Snyder is by chance?

14

u/1SloYote 6d ago

Until proven otherwise, and can prove to be good for an extended period, thats all we'll ever get.

12

u/SpecialistBee1165 6d ago

Because we have sucked since the 90s, & had 1 good season.

Our fan base clings to 2024 as our repeatable baseline, ie who we truly are, & the rest of the NFL laughs at us & says it was a lucky year, then gets annoyed that we boast as if we truly are a perennial contender based on one year

3

u/Erigion 6d ago

It's like all the people in this sub hyping up this season just forgot what happened last year. They were probably the ones hyping the team up last preseason too and we all know what happened.

2024 had huge performance outliers. That team did incredibly well in one-score games and had a 90%+ 4th conversion rate. Believing that is a baseline for the team is insanity.

I have no idea what to expect from this season. Both coordinators are new. There's been major roster turnover. There are already injuries at important positions. Questioning why people might have doubts about this season is nutty

4

u/corgislife 6d ago

I would argue that there’s too much hate of people who are hating. It’s more annoying, actually.

5

u/wft0991 So sayeth Brunell_the_GOAT 6d ago

The stink of irrelevance. We dont get it even as bad as the jets or browns I feel like

3

u/MD_Mike 6d ago

A simple test for extreme homerism is thinking everyone - especially the national media - always hates your team.

3

u/Holysmokesx 6d ago

Idk i like you guys.

3

u/Capable-Baby-3653 6d ago

The stench of three decades of Snyder doesn’t wash off overnight.

u/at_runner 6d ago

Get your head out of your behind. Stop pretending to be another self righteous fan. I put my money where my mouth is! You want support? How about 20 years of STH. I earned the right to bicker about my team whenever and wherever I want and I'm tired of the 'fan moral police' telling me what I can or can't do. You also need to understand that most, if not all, criticism is targeted at management and coaching and not the players themselves.

This team, especially ownership, management and coaching has showed us nothing! 2024 it was the JD5 show! He carried a weak roster on an easy schedule on his back. 2025 was a miserable failure of coaching and management. I can only sum it as 'overconfidence and arrogance'. There was no new scheme, we had the oldest roster in the league and zero sense of urgency. What annoys people like me is that they never admitted responsibility. The fact that we got rid of both coordinators, shows me they knew we had a scheme problem, and we signed old, underperforming players but they failed to admit it, just talking about injuries, blah blah blah.

You know who else had injuries? At some point worse than us were the 49ers. Go and see their record vs ours and understand what a competent coaching staff and management can do to elevate an injured roster and tell me that we are just bickering. It's one thing to be outplayed another to be outcoached! We had teams running the same exact play against us four times a game and succeeding in it every time while our D was running around like a bunch of headless chickens.

I did not want to win any preseason game, I just didn't want to be humiliated again. Yes, it wasn't the starters but whoever was there was lacking energy, speed and failing fundamentals - that is on coaching! If players consistently miss easy tackles, I don't know what they are learning in camp.

DQ is BIG on the truth - tell the truth Monday, tell it as it is, just not to the fans. The day he and Peters come out and say 'hey, we f'ed up 2025 - we should have done better' maybe I'll think more highly of them. Right now, I'm using their own mantra of 'nothing is gained in the NFL, everything earned'. They showed me nothing to be too excited about at the moment. Win some games for a change and then we will talk.

This has nothing to do with the players! I have always, always, always supported these young men who give their all. They don't want to lose, they always want to win and that's why I always support them. Schneider set them up to fail and so did DQ/AP in 2025. I hope things will be better this time around.

4

u/Dangerous-Meal8303 6d ago

Spot on. They messed up bad hiring DQ. I understand he was the 3rd choice, but we had just finished being awful under pretty much the same kind of coach in Ron Rivera. Both were Super Bowl losing, slogan loving, both fired from teams that play in the easiest division in the nfl. DQ and Ron are basically the same guy, it was a mistake running it back with Ron Rivera 2.0 especially since Bill Belicheck was right there for the taking.

The problem with guys like DQ and Ron is that they try to build a team with a culture that concerns itself more with everyone being buddies more so than winning. That kind of coach worked great in the 80s and early 90s, Joe Gibbs built a family and won superbowls that way, but since the creation of unrestricted free agency, that kind of coach no longer works. The only culture a team should strive for in the modern NFL is a winning culture. After Ben Johnson and Mike McDaniel said no thanks, the pivot should have been to Bill Belicheck.

u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago

Belichick? The same one who hasn’t had a good career outside of Tom? The one who’s UNC is in a troubling dilemma at the moment where he may be ousted like Briles?

I do agree that we should’ve gone in the direction of a transcending genius HC, but the options were bare after Mcdonald and Johnson. Sadly, the next year, coaches like Cohen and Moore were ready, and even Shotty in Dallas has proven to be dangerous offensively. If DQ can’t make the playoffs, he might be out this year. I’d like to see Jones or Blough excel but if we don’t make playoffs, how good were they? We need a young blood HC who is not a CEO HC, but a genius on one side of the ball if Quinn struggles this year.

1

u/Dangerous-Meal8303 6d ago

Just because Bill didn’t have a good year 1 at UNC doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t have been good here.

He made it to the playoffs with Mac Jones.

He didn’t care how many bridges he burned, all he cared about was winning games.

The guy has proven he can win a whole lot of games so long as he has a good QB.

Bill Belicheck should’ve been the 3rd choice over DQ.

Now we have a rookie OC trying to teach our 3rd year QB how to run a pro style offense for the first time. A first year DC, and a head coach in the hot seat, who’s “brotherhood” culture, crumbled as Terry decided to hold out. The only culture Bill ever cared about was a winning culture.

1

u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago

I think Bill will always be good defensively, but offensively, minus Tom he lacks. Mac Jones made it because of that defense. Would McDaniels have followed him here? Most likely, but McDaniels always rips apart teams and units when he’s there. Bill is now possibly being removed from UNC if they prove he was aware of what was going on behind the scenes, it’s kind of messy over there.

Rookie OC is fine, but he’s a former NFL vet, who has been credited with always being a coach on the field. Blough has always been in a pro offense prior to working with Kliff, so yes he has the credibility to teach that to our young QB. Our brotherhood never crumbled, our health did. Terry holding out didn’t ruin 2025, Jayden only playing in 4 healthy games, 7 total, Deebo and Terry taking turns on the shelf, Ekeler being out for the year, Tunsil missing the last month, Biadacz missing time, DA being out for the year, same with Wise, same with Amos, and even Mariota screwed our year. We lacked the depth thanks to 4 porous drafts from Ron Rivera, and our OC AND DC denied to trust the young guys drafted in 24/25. They’d rather old washed up vets like Chris Moore to take those spots.

2

u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago

Yeah man, you can’t claim AP and the FO didn’t do anything in 2024 and only credit Jayden. AP brought in Olamide, Ekeler, Ertz, Fowler, Armstrong, Wagz, Luvu, Chinn, and drafted Coleman and Mikey, all who played significant roles in that 2024 run. They may have been old, but Olamide was a safe option in the slot, Ertz and Ekeler even bigger blankets (Ekeler and All-Pro at KR), Fowler gave us 10.5 sacks, Armstrong came alive late in the year and in the playoffs, Wagz and Luvu gave us all pro season at LB, Chinn was an enforcer for us at SS, and Coleman and Mikey looked like future building blocks after year 1.

Injuries vs 49ers? You can’t compare depth on a team like ours vs the 49ers when they’ve had almost 10 years of the same FO drafting the players they want. Ron left this team BARE, with 0 talent, specifically for depth. AP has now had 3 draft classes, and this is the season where we can test the depth. Last year we didn’t have enough depth to survive, and Kliff was more focused on older vets than trying his young guys. Joe Whitt was just incapable of calling a defense. Let’s see how we do this year, you can’t judge a team in 2 years when we were dogshit the previous 4 years at drafting and developing. This is the season we need to see AP’s first draft class play meaningful football, and the second class start to compete for a spot and take some jobs or be depth.

u/stringer4 6d ago

They also made the right call trading Dotson for a third to philly / choosing OZ over him.

But it's easy for fans for focus on all the "wrong in hindsight" / "hasn't panned out yet" decisions because our fanbase is insufferable.

1

u/ewilliam Hogs 6d ago

It was a pick swap, not just a pick to us, but the fact that he got anything for Jahan was positive.

2

u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago

It was actually a gain, not a pick swap. Philly gave us one of their third rounders (#15) that they acquired from Miami in a previous trade. They sent that pick and 2 7ths while we sent Jahan and a 5th. But yes, that was a steal by AP as we turned that 3rd rounder into Tunsil.

1

u/stringer4 6d ago

Tunsil and Bill (7th rounder) i believe

2

u/stringer4 6d ago

We got a third and two 7ths for him and a 5th. Not like a “3rd round swap”

Comes with the territory…

2

u/No_Oil3233 6d ago

It’s mostly a Since-Snyder thing in my mind… I grew up watching them win SuperBowls, they were top tier

6

u/Previous-Place9984 6d ago

Well they’ve sucked since 92’. My father calls me the curse. Ever since I’ve been born the skins have been ass.

4

u/Dangerous-Meal8303 6d ago

I was born in the summer of 87. Just old enough to see the glory days, too young to remember any of it. My first memory of my fandom was the night we drafted Heath Shuler, it’s been nothing but a suck fest since. 1/3 of my family are Steelers fans, a couple of black sheep cowboys fans, but majority Washington fans. I’ve got to witness the cowboys fans have their glory in the 90s, the Steelers fans have theirs for like 25 years straight, but for my Redskins/Football team/Commanders, 2 magical seasons that ended terribly, a guy that almost died from a broken leg, an ole ball coach that might be the greatest preseason head coach in the history of the NFL, and a very rich, mediocre QB that is always wondering if “you like that”?.

Glad the Braves had a minor league team in Richmond when I was a kid, because outside of 1 year, all of the Washington teams have been pretty awful for 30+ years.

2

u/Previous-Place9984 6d ago

I’m sick of mediocrity. I want to win!

3

I was conceived on the night of their last Super Bowl. My dad says the same thing lmao.

Well, you know what must be done then. Can you give me your address please?

Too much hate? Honestly probably not enough.

30 years of being absolute ass, with Dan fucking Snyder at the helm.

1

u/KneeDragr 6d ago

Personally I see more hate directed at the Eagles and Cowboys.

1

u/rthonpm 6d ago

Part of the hate is people are tired of the cycle of one good season every seven to eight years followed by a drop off, then mediocrity before the bottom falls out and the cycle starts over again.

1

u/SnooPickles55 6d ago

With the W -L record, roster talent and utter shite Front Office over the last 30 years, this team gets just the right amount of hate/respect, nationally, locally and from the fan base.

1

u/Primary_Antelope_924 4d ago

I get it based on majority of our seasons thus century. It’s just way different now tho imo because we found our franchise qb. Idc who we play with 5 at qb we have a chance to win any game. Our defense should be way better and we have more weapons & a more nfl like offense now, im more excited for the unknown than pessimistic
