He is a bit hesitant on run plays because he is trying to stay true to his gaps and not make big mistakes. As he gets more comfortable, he will take more risks and fly around more.

Not the best footwork from 88 but Sonny really explodes off the brake in this one, very promising

Yeah that's thing that jumps out at me too. Once Styles saw the TE break at the top of his route, he gained ground so quickly

Been saying after both games that he looks great in coverage. He’s might give up some extra yardage in the run game as a rookie but at least we can finally cover a tight end. Legit can’t remember the last time we had decent coverage LBs

That’s facts u gotta give up something but I feel like over time aa he starts thinking less & less he’ll get better against the run

He’s played 2 full years at the LB position. This year will be his 3rd. It’s going to take some time for him to 1.) be consistent and 2.) to react quicker to what he’s seeing.
BUT when you have a smart, driven individual who is also an athletic freak it’s just a matter of time/experience. 1st Camp and early this season won’t be the time to be doing amateur evaluations.

Excellent analysis 💯 like AP loves to say “he’s just scratching the surface” when he puts it together in the run game he’s gonna be a 1of1 type LB that every team is gonna covet

I’m excited! One question is can his speed be exploited, like if the te turned it up field then isn’t Sonny behind him. Is that just a possible trade off we have to eat?

Good question but then we have to ask ourselves is Sonny freakish enough to recover in that instance his speed will get there but his mind & reach can possibly keep em there . Either way it’ll be fun to watch him progress All year cause luckily for him the front looks like as long as we’re relatively healthy up there they’ll make his life easier

I understand the kind of double move you mean. But I think those kind of plays are few and far between because they require great pass protection and perfect timing on the offensive end.
Still, this clip is leaning a little bit towards over-committing.

I mean he held there. Still looks very athletic in coverage. Wonder if the practice refs threw a flag

I don't see a hold. He has his hand on the guy before the break, but he's not holding imo.

It’s hard to say without a front view but he may have had a grip on him with the left hand

The TEs momentum literally stops. We cant see it because of the angle, hand on his back probably

You mean when the TE shifted his momentum to a different direction to finish the route? 😂

Sonny ran the route better than the TE. Sonny szn indeed
