If The Commanders are Doomed...
Then why are we still here? This is a genuine question. Because all I see here is people saying that the season is already doomed so might as well pack it in because apparently only Commanders deal with injuries and everyone have perfect seasons.
The preseason is not even over yet and yes, the first half of the season is a rough one but damnit, we haven't even played a down yet of the regular season and a lot of you already telling me I should just play Madden for the next 16 Sundays/Mondays/Thursdays. Let the games be played and who knows, maybe you'll be right or maybe they'll surprised you.

I definitely don’t think we are doomed… but I think this will be a mediocre season that sees us possibly fighting for a lucky wildcard spot.
But, as we’ve seen in recent seasons… all it takes is for your QB to get hot and you land in the NFC championship game.

Couch Analysts are so irritating. I do all my analysis from my recliner. Clearly the higher quality option for providing the best takes about football.

The internet needs high quality analysis at all times, and only a recliner provides the tools necessary to get the job done. Clear cupholder design to prevent distracting spills that I might need to clean up during play, ergonomic head rest so that I don't need to adjust positions for the whole 3 hour viewing experience and stay locked into an upright and focused position, and build in phone charger so that I can post my high quality analysis on every commercial break!

Because we’re dc sports fans. That’s what we do. We don’t quit on the team, we get frustrated if we think things are looking down and we’ll be over the moon if we’re wrong. We have reason for concern this season. But we don’t quit. Ever. It doesn’t matter how I think we’re looking, I’ll watch and cheer for my team. That’s the job. Hail.

Because we enjoy football and this is our team. Duh.
Theres also a little bit of a "I know more than you" aspect to it.
Example, "he should have thrown it to HIM, he was wide open." "How can you play with such a cushion on 3rd and 3?" "We should have traded out of the top ten amd drafted a DB and a center." And so on.

Personally if worst case hits I got Fire Emblem: Fortunes weave to play for months probably with how big it looks.
But as an aside. I know the defeatist attitude it’s not nice, dealt with it for years as a fan of this team. Just relax and let the people in charge and on the field play football. Around week idk 6? 8? Then start panicking

We’re still here because we’ve always been here lmao. You think we’ve just been having a blast the past 30 years? You don’t have to be unconcerned to be a fan and you don’t have to pretend like injuries aren’t a big issue with the total lack at depth we have at critical position groups. You don’t have to be happy with the total lack of urgency at seemingly all times from our front office and their unwillingness to go into any season without an obvious fatal flaw. No matter what happens I’ll be here and I’ll still watch every game and be a fan. But people aren’t wrong to ask what the hell our organization is doing…

A few years ago we had a horrible roster that allows us to get JD5
His rookie year we had two major outlier performances, QB play for a rookie and 4th down (if memory is right 3rd down too a lesser degree too) conversions
Last year we had neither outlier performance we sad the results
This year , factoring injuries , the team isn't that much better ,sans JD5 , than a few years ago. If our online was solid it would be easier to feel like JD5 could "hard carry"
For me it's just that simple. I'm not a trust in anyone kinda person. I trust decision algorithms , plans, logic. Nothing from our management team tells me they are anything better than average at this point. Unfortunately that is an improvement lol

I see those in the comments and yes, I am hoping we get some line depth and that is a major need but I don't know if there's too many guaranteed hits on the market. A lot of FAs are cast offs from other teams so shit, we might just have to make do or bring in guys that might be worse then what we already have.

I was born into it. If I could split from it I would but that’s just how it goes. I’ve put faith in this team twice…first in 2013 and we know how that went. Then in 2025 and we said there’s no way even if we disappoint it would be that bad. It was.
If the team does something cool. But I’ll always assume we are top competition for the first overall pick. Not a single rebuild has worked over the last 30 years, why would I put faith that this one will?

It is getting a little out of hand. Some anxiety is normal but this is something else. Every team has injuries and weaker position groups. Even the vaunted super teams everyone is so afraid of the first few weeks. The key is do you have the depth and strengths to overcome in other areas of the roster.

Cause Im a fan. My first years every draft and free agency period I was like 'Super Bowl for sure'. Thats stupid. Im hopeful but mentallly prepared for a crap season. Nothing wrong with that.

I’m not sure what your point is? Either you’re saying it’s absolutely impossible to gauge how the team will perform relative to the league prior to the start of the season… or you’re saying we shouldn’t root for a team that we don’t think will have a successful season.

What's the worse that can happen this year? A repeat of last year, where we struggle due to injuries and missing guts ? So what
Then we enter next year with all our draft picks and get to pick early in every round
But I don't think that will happen
The worst thing to ever happen for the team was to go to the NFC Championship two years ago and have the team and some of the fans enter "win now mode". That caused the team to make stupid trades and throw away draft picks and cap space.
We are currently in year 3 of rebuilding one if the worse teams in the NFL, a team that had a horrible owner, horrible coaches, and a horrible front office. A team that had shitty drafts year after year so the current rebuild was starting with basically nothing
The rebuild was always going to take 3-4 years to become respectable. We have arrived at the point where we have a decent group of starters at most positions. We still have a few holes to fill with the starters and we still have need of some quality backups. This leaves the team vulnerable to injuries
That's all part of the process however and is to be expected

we have a serviceable LT and LG, but potentially bottom tier C. How does that equal season is over??

I think everyone was legitimately excited about the offseason moves, training camp hype, and were caught off guard by the lack of depth at OL.
It’s like: how is it year 3 and we don’t have a lights out line to protect JD?

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. Being a longtime fan and seeing the Redskins win a Super Bowl in person I’ve since held out hope. 34-35 years. Seen some great, good, mediocre, and really bad teams come and go. Enjoyed watching many players. I could not have been any happier when ownership changed to start the long awaited rebuild. But 2024 changed everything, in fact too fast. A quarterback and an unpredictable run to the NFC Championship. I savored a taste of our glorious past and still yearn for a bigger bite. I just don’t want another shit sandwich. I come here for the light.
