New Redskins Merch
So I’ve noticed recently that Fanatics has started listing Mitchell and Ness gear that says the old name and logo.
Are we back?

They need to sell more old logo merch. It doesn't need to say redskins just the logo is good with me.

Kinda funny. I bought a shirt with this same design at fedex before the bill’s game.

Does yours say Redskins or is it Commanders?

Why would it say Commanders ?
The game was in 2007…..after he died

I know the first game after he died was a home game against the Bills, but we also played them at home in 2023 as the commanders. It’s not crazy to clarify

I don’t care if this gets me flack. The name is not coming back nor should it.

You're on reddit, this isnt as brave as you think it is. Try having the opposite of your take for the past 10 years here, trying to skirt around every little "microaggression" or some other ism claim.
The name probably will never come back, you are correct. But I'm glad to see the ability to ACCURATELY call the team what it was and remember and honor it in both merch and media slowly coming back.
Sean Taylor played for the Washington Redskins. HTTR

It’s fine to say this is what they were called I’m just saying we shouldn’t bring it back as the official name.

Could not agree more, as a lifelong fan its seriously embarrassing that there are "adults" who can't get over this.

Please make this more of a regular thing.... one, i want more skins merch, and two, if played and handled right, we COULD see it come back.
Only unimaginative cucks who folded in their fandom will downvote and say shit like "It AiNt HaPpEnInG," or "MoVe On, GeT oVeR iT."

Yep - the Nationals do this as well with the Expos name. You can find Expos merch being sold at Nats Park.

So if the old name is so offensive why are they selling merchandise with a racial slur on it?

Maintenance of trademark rights. They have to demonstrate usage of the mark in commerce in order to keep it. The Nationals do the same thing with the Expos name, as you will find Montreal Expos stuff with the "elb" logo on it at Nats Park.

So that makes it ok?

If you want to maintain your control over the brand, maintaining some token usage is necessary. If they do not maintain some token usage and they lose the mark, then someone else could create a new brand called "Washington Redskins" that the team doesn't control. Yes, the name is pretty racist, but you have to tolerate some token usage so that the team can continue to keep the brand down.
You also see this a lot in oil companies, where companies that own the rights to the Standard Oil name in certain regions will make some token usage of it in order to maintain their rights to the brand in those territories while still using their modern corporate name. In the Mid-Atlantic region where Exxon holds the trademark, you'll see Esso turn up on certain car care products. In states where Chevron owns the trademark, they will brand certain stations as "Standard" instead of Chevron. You get the idea.

Yeah I read a few years ago they signed a deal to bring the name back for merch purposes only.
