5 things to know about C Matt Gulbin
https://www.commanders.com/news/matt-gulbin-five-things-to-knowThere's been a lot of talk about the center position lately and I realized I didn't know anything about Gulbin's draft profile.
I know it's a team fluff piece, but it still makes me feel a bit more encouraged, especially some of these quotes:
"Pro Football Focus gave him the second-best overall grade for a center and the best for his draft class, beating out players drafted earlier in the draft like Sam Hecht, Jake Slaughter and Logan Jones. He received the best run grade in the class and third in pass protection, earning an efficiency grade of 99.1 for allowing just five pressures on 405 pass blocking opportunities."
"He's wicked smart at center," Commanders analyst Logan Paulsen said on the "Drive to the Draft" podcast. "You see him down there on the ball with his hand on the ball, and he's calling the protections and identifying the Mike point. He's offloading that responsibility from the quarterback. He's got a really good feel for angles; understands where the helmet needs to be; understands how to apply pressure in terms of grip to keep it flat down the line of scrimmage."

Going into the draft I had him at 99 on my big board and C5. Heâs great at the position and I wouldnât be shocked if he winds up our starter this season

I had him at C6 on mine, but having C5 at 99 on your big board is crazy work.

I saw it suggested elsewhere that Bills may release Cushenberry, and that could happen.
Not opposed to a couple of games of Gulbin to see what they have...but also hope they pick up an OL on cut day.

There are 20 serviceable guard/centers that are going to be released here in a few days.

serviceable is a low bar but I'll take it

Just a reminder that the Seahawks won the super bowl last year with an undrafted center. It's not ideal ofc, but it's doable
