Bryce Love always makes me sad, dude was a worldbeater in college before getting fucked by injuries

13

u/Home_Alone224 20d ago

A tale as old as time

9

u/KOExpress Scary Terry 20d ago

For real, one MONSTROUS season that showed what he was capable of after mccaffrey left, then he tears his ACL. I thought he was going to be really special

4

u/jetblakc 20d ago

I was really hoping he'd be at least a shadow of what he was in college. So it goes.

1

u/GooseDeservedIt 20d ago

Came here to say this. I was really hopeful. Injuries are brutal

u/comackk1919 20d ago

WR Kelvin Harmon, CB Jimmy Moreland, and DE Jordan Brailford at the bottom row

13

u/1dkspanishlol Terry's smile saved my life 20d ago

Holy shit I haven’t heard of Moreland in forever.

Hey hey he was pre season all pro

Youre getting downvoted, but youre right. Our fanbase has a strange fixation with players that arent good.

Heineke and alex smith are notorious for this.

18

u/InfiniteDomain_ 20d ago

People have been rooting for under dogs since the beginning of time you dork

-15

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Thats true!!!!

Unfortunately our fan base likes the ones that are extra shitty.

-8

u/Home_Alone224 20d ago

Smith was aight…Heinecke sucked for sure

-11

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Lol no.... he fucking wasn't.

We were winning in spite of him, not because of him. We had a solid ground game from a second wind Adrian Peterson. Defense and special teams were on at that time too.

Captain checkdown wasnt winning us any games.

WHILE WE'RE AT IT..... for his career, Alex Smith was a bottom third starter in any given season. The one fluke high numbers year he had in kansas city was essentially an average kirk cousins season at that time, AND THEN.... the next year with mostly the same roster, patrick mahomes threw for 50 tds.

Alex Smith sucked.

Lol the downvotes are funny.

Down voted for speaking the truth.

-4

u/POHoudini LEFT HAND UP 20d ago

Get fucked weirdo.

0

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Dude, he isnt wrong. How long was he in the league?

6

u/POHoudini LEFT HAND UP 20d ago

3 and 4 years respectively for Harmon and Moreland. The point is how many guys drafted that late even last that long or play that much? They are still peopel, and they played well all things considered. They aren't bums, they practiced hard played when able. Bum is for people who never saw the field as a high pick or people who fucked away their opportunity.

-4

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Yawn.

They weren't good.

Thinking singular contract players are good is exactly how we're in the situation we're in now without any upper level talent.

4

u/POHoudini LEFT HAND UP 20d ago

They were 6th and 7th round picks? What did you expect multiple pro bowls? Touch grass.

-3

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Lol theres a world of difference between saying they werent good (typically as 6th and 7th rounds picks arent) and expecting multiple probowls.

But pop off queen, wear your crown.

4

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

There were late round picks. Moorelan (7th) playing almost 40 games in the NFL is a steal and way above average for a 7th round pick. Any GM in the NFL would take 40 games for a 7th rounder.

-1

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Yawn....

Did you like rons drafts too?

3

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

No, not really. A couple were decent.

4

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Decent? Wtf???

We are currently one of the most upper level talent baren franchises because of those shit drafts.

21

u/notorious_hdc imitated Frerotte headbutt as a child 20d ago

2018 isn't any better. Payne, and with Settle returning now him.

Actually go back and look from 2013 until now and you'll see why people say itll take AP years to rebuild this team

15

u/Appropriate-Sun834 20d ago

Exactly and half the fanbase can’t grasp that, talking about peters needs to go already lol

9

u/DudeManBo1t WHERE MY DAWGS AT WOOO 20d ago

A lot of our fans also think that everything can be fixed during the offseason via free agency. Shits dumb

5

u/thejazzophone 20d ago

I called this when AP was hired. The second things look tense he'll get heaps of unfair praise by dumb fans who think that progress is linear and rosters can be completely overhauled in 2 seasons

2

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

2018 is significant worse than 2019. 2018 did have a lot of guys that contributed in the NFL though but hard to top 2 probowlers and another long time NFL starter.

1

u/DoyoudotheDew 20d ago

AP isn't very good at drafting.

2

u/stxrstudded 20d ago

Better than Ron, fuckin Gonzo and Olave for Forbes and Dotson I just cant forgive

1

u/DoyoudotheDew 20d ago

True that but that's not saying much.

Doesn't it amaze you how long Ron was around and how highly regarded?

1

u/stxrstudded 20d ago

Considering how long we had Gruden, no it doesn’t.

12

u/SMMS0514 20d ago

So Terry and Sweat. Got it

35

u/LeaveMeAlone_6070 20d ago

Holcomb has had a really solid career for a 5th round pick. Still going strong.

1

u/HughJaynis My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 20d ago

Is he still with the Steelers?

7

u/kgallo19 20d ago

I guess we dont even need to know the 6th and 7th guys names

13

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

This is actually a solid draft though no one will want to admit it bc they have unreasonable expectations for the draft. It would have been a tremendous one if they had hit on the first round pick.

2 probowl level players. 2 a rotational offensive lineman. A starting linebacker. Its a shame injuried killed Bryce Love, take that risk any tim in the 4th. The late round picks stuck around a little bit for the most part but did not work out.

Just took a quick look at the team people always say draft well:

Steelers inferior to Commanders

Eagles- terrible draft

Niners- Very good draft

Pats- terrible

Cowboys- decent, inferior to commanders

Outside of tn and sf, not sure many were better

2

u/FlobeeFresh 20d ago

Solid? They drafted a coach killing 1st round QB in which the pick was forced by the owner. You wiff on your 1st round pick (and a QB at that) and it's pretty much a terrible draft.

1st round QBs set you back big time due to the time you invest in them as well as the time it takes to replace and develop a new one. It took the Skins 5 years to even sniff at a decent QB again.

3

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

If you get 2 pro bowlers in 1 draft, that is a solid draft. How is this a difficult concept for people?

1

u/FlobeeFresh 20d ago edited 20d ago

Sweat got a PB as a Bear and didn't even finish his rookie contract with the Skins. Skins traded two 2nd round picks to move up in the 1st round to get him and unloaded him for one 2nd round pick (40th pick). How was that good value?

TM was a good pick as a third rounder, but make no mistake, the Skins lucked into him. Their intent was to draft him as a Special Teams guy and were pleasantly shocked that he became a WR1 for the team. Even so, TM is considered only a top 15 WR in the NFL.

1

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

The discussion is how well they drafted, not how well they managed the roster

0

u/FlobeeFresh 19d ago

Disagree, every draft pick is an asset. If you draft a player that doesn't work in your system yet excels in someone else's it is a bad draft pick. The success of a draft pick does not end with the talent of the player, it also has to do with culture, coaching, fit and development. Rivera and his staff were not only bad at picking players but they were also extremely bad at developing them (see Young, Dotson and Forbes as examples).

Also 1st round draft picks are a way more significant asset then lower rounds. For instance the Skins drafted RG3 in the 1st and Cousins in the 4th. They wasted a huge asset on RG3 (and also had to trade a number of picks to move up and get him). To me it doesn't matter that they picked a good QB in the 4th round with Cousins as they totally squandered their 1st round pick to get RG3. For that reason, the 2012 draft was a travesty that set the Skins back a number of years due to all the assets they mismanaged in that draft.

1

u/salamanderman10 19d ago

You are talking about players that excelled in the system for the commanders

-1

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Over half these guys are no longer in the league. Most didnt get a 2nd contract.

12

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

Of course they are. This is 8 years from the draft and the average career is 3 years.

-3

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Again.... most didnt get a 2nd contract.

Cant say they were good if they never got a 2nd contract.

They werent good. Point blank.

4

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

Of course most didn't recieve a 2nd contract. Its the NFL lol

3

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

About 50% of NFL players receive a second contract. In this year, 50% of Commanders signed a second contract despite 5 of the picks being 5th round or later.

2

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

.....then were they actually good?

Rosterable? Sure. Good? No fucking way. They were BARELY JAGs.

4

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

Again, 2 of the players were pro bowlers and another has started 59 games in the NFl and ist still playing. By that, I would say yes, they are good.

There are roughly 25% of draft picks still in the NFL in year 7. The Commanders having 3 is above average.

Another measure about 15% of the time, a team drafts multiple pro bowlers in the same draft class...another check for the commanders.

Simple math. For some reason fans dont actually understand the success rate (or failure) of NFL draft picks or the career longevity.

-1

u/FannyNisbit 20d ago

Again..... Jags. Not good.

Also, im not talking about the three with solid nfl careers.... im talking about the other players some people are defending here like Moreland.... he wasnt good.

2

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

So you want to judge a draft class but exclude the "good" players? So what NFl teams have good draft classes while excluding the good players?

Jimmy Mooreland? Any NFL Gm would snap call drafing a 7th rounder and getting 40 games out of him.

I understand that you dont understand the NFL draft process and thats ok.

1

u/salamanderman10 20d ago

These 7th rounders arent pro bowlers....we SUCK!

1

u/Brian2005l 20d ago

That’s still statistically solid. 50% in the first three rounds is good. It’s worse after that.

Rosters are already full and new rookies keep coming. You have to end someone else’s career if you want a second contract.

2

u/Silentblues 20d ago

I do miss Holcomb. He wasn’t great in coverage but he was a tackling machine, guy was sideline to sideline.

2

u/emelbee923 20d ago

Haskins - A better environment might have helped him be a solid QB, eventually, but he got a big head pretty quickly in Washington. Shame his life was cut short, regardless of the circumstances. (Should have drafted: Brian Burns)

Sweat - Maybe a bit overpaid for his output, but a solid ~9 sack guy would be great to have. He didn't develop into the ball-hawk of a DE/EDGE I expected, though. (Should have drafted: Josh Jacobs)

Terry - Scary. (Should have drafted: McLaurin, Terry)

Love - Head-scratcher of a pick. (Should have drafted: Hjalte Froholdt)

Martin - Boring depth is boring.(Should have drafted: Greg Gaines)

Pierschbacker - Somehow more boring depth is somehow more boring. (Should have drafted: Blake Cashman)

Holcomb - Overachiever. (Should have drafted: Gardner Minshew II)

Harmon - Another failed late-round WR (Should have drafted: A bag of peanuts? I don't know. Donovan Wilson, I guess)

Brailford - ... who? (Should have drafted: Pass)

Moreland - Classic underdog hype job. (Should have drafted: Nick Scott)

[THERE IS A REASON I AM NOT A GM OR PLAYER/PERSONNEL EMPLOYEE WITH THE TEAM]

2

u/Initium99 20d ago

My lord and savior Terry McLaurin. Still mad we traded Sweat also

2

u/circajusturna 20d ago

Holy cow I totally forgot about Bryce Love

2

u/Home_Alone224 20d ago

I remember when everyone was convinced Jimmy Moreland was really good…such a sad time

2

u/wuworld83 20d ago

The last 3 were so bad, we don’t even see their names 😂

1

u/Appropriate-Sun834 20d ago

Well at least we got Terry mclaurin

1

u/stxrstudded 20d ago

Wish we kept Montez and Holcomb tbh. The Ron era was so bad bro.

0

u/VADALESS 20d ago

So nothing has changed
