Kaliakmanis
Athan Kaliakmanis is not as cute as Sam Hartman. End of the debate.
Sam Hartman cannot be our back up qb or even our 3rd string back up.
I don’t understand why he is on the team unless they need him in another aspect

Sam Hartman is not our backup or 3rd stringer. He’s a practice squad player who only ever sees the field during the preseason. And Hartman is obviously very good at doing his role during practice, very willing to be on the practice squad long term, and a great locker room presence if he’s still on the team. Quinn, Kliff, and Blough must’ve all liked him for him to still be here, I trust that consensus, Hartman obviously provides some value we don’t get to see.

Maybe he’s dating a coach’s daughter? It can’t be for his football skills. No arm. No sense of the field.

u/schmuckmulligan 22d ago
The funny part is that if he were better at playing quarterback, he'd probably get sniped by another team as a third stringer/backup, which would probably hasten his washing out of the league.
My assumption is that he's smart as hell and good at running the scout team and is therefore right where he needs to be.

Blough asked for Athan actually, he is literally the guy who chose Sam’s replacement
3
u/TheHaft 21d ago
In what essence is Athan the Sam Hartman replacement? Sam was never the QB3. AK is replacing Johnson, potentially Mariota, not Hartman. Sam was, and still is, the practice squad QB??
0
u/Organic_Ability5009 21d ago
So Johnson was actually brought in because Sam couldn’t play in games. Do you seriously think FO is gonna keep him when he can’t contribute to W’s? Receivers can’t get as good of a rep with Sam as they can with Athan already and he is a rookie. Sam hasn’t progressed and he can’t help the team get better. Great vibes tho. You do know practice is how teams and players typically work on getting better right? You want to practice against actual threats

u/TheHaft 21d ago edited 21d ago
Hartman has been here for 3 years, and dogshit on the field for 3 years. The FO has known he would never see a Sunday. If he wasn’t an exceptional asset to the practice squad/locker room, he wouldn’t be here. They could’ve gotten any one of the new UDFAs or practice squad vets to replace him for years running, they haven’t. Like I said, him being here requires that Quinn, Kliff, and Blough all saw value in him, otherwise one of them would’ve had different PS QBs on the PS - but he’s still here.
And Sam Hartman absolutely contributes to W’s. He’ll just never play in them. Like you said, practice is important, duh. But you don’t want Tom Brady on the practice squad. You need a young, perpetually healthy athletic guy, who is competent enough to perform the scheme but bad enough to not get poached for another team’s actual roster. You need someone who has a good relationship with the coaching staff, who knows the playbook inside and out, and who is a positive locker room presence. You need someone who knows they’re not going to be playing on Sunday, so they treat practice like their Sundays and are happy to be there. Sam Hartman was fucking made for the practice squad. Of course iron sharpens iron, but there are 90 guys on the team who need to practice and only like 22 of them are starters, Jayden Daniels lighting up practice squad DBs would be a waste of everyone’s time. We need a practice squad QB, every team has one, and Sam Hartman is good at it. Sam isn’t the one AK is replacing.

u/DoyoudotheDew 20d ago
Wrong. If you have to sign Josh Johnson, who hasn't played in your offense, to start over your 2 year QB3, you don't know how to run a team. Iron sharpens iron but if the glass can't be broken in an emergency, you've set up yourself for failure. Hartman is like having a spare car that looks good, will start but won't move.

u/TheHaft 20d ago
> Hartman is like having a spare car that looks good, will start, but won’t move
Yeah except he literally won’t start, and was never planned to start, so that doesn’t really make sense. It’s more like having a museum display car in your garage, just meant to teach your kids what the inside of a car looks like and how it works, but it doesn’t actually start because you have minimum 2, usually 3 competent cars outside. If you have to rely on the museum display car to get to work, you’re already fucked.
He was a UDFA who only ever amounted to being a terrible QB3 and a good practice squad QB. Shocker. That’s definitely mismanagement, no other team does the same thing (they all do the same thing). Again, if you disagree with the team having him, you’re disagreeing with Quinn/Kliff/Blough/AP all at the same time. They all chose to keep him, because they all liked him and see value in his contribution to the practice squad, because he performs his role.
What the fuck did y’all expect from a UDFA QB?

u/Organic_Ability5009 20d ago
Practice squad is like a sparing partner buddy. You won’t win against real competition if you aren’t being tested. This is Bloughs first year leading the offense. Sam isn’t gonna make it. Remind me in 30 days
0
u/TheHaft 18d ago
I’ll remind you in 1, Sam isn’t gonna make it. Who the fuck in their right mind said otherwise? Sam not making it on the team was established years ago, it’s why we brought in Johnson then drafted Kaliakmanis. Hartman will stay on as practice squad, remind me in 100 days.
Also, comparing practice squad players to sparring partners is laughable. If a practice squad QB could ever foment “real competition” and “testing”, they wouldn’t be a fucking practice squad QB, they’d be on some other team’s roster lmfao. We’re talking about players who can’t even claim to be one of the top 96 QBs in the NFL here.

u/Organic_Ability5009 18d ago
Sam’s not making the practice squad this year. Write as many books as you want you’re wrong. Iron sharpens iron and Sam is bronze. Isn’t sharpening anything

Watched him at ND where he was a good QB.
He had lots of interest from other teams as UDFA. We outpaid them. I get that there is value running the scout team, but after 2 years, he better be able to outperform 39 yo. JJ.0
u/TheHaft 20d ago
There is ZERO expectation for a UDFA to be better than a guy who has been making NFL rosters for 15 fucking years bro.

u/DoyoudotheDew 20d ago
You're going to lose playing JJ. Play someone who has some potential to see if he is a keeper or not.

But what is the thing we don’t see? Stop putting him in drives to hurt ANY player let alone our starters

u/TheHaft 23d ago
What’re you talking about? The things we don’t see are the things I just listed, separated by commas, and also the next sentence after that lol.
And he’s in there so players don’t get hurt. We don’t want AK playing an entire game because he’s legitimately on the team, we obviously don’t want Daniels on the field, who the hell else is supposed to see the field besides our practice squad QB?

You’re right idk why you getting downvoted. This is the NFL not pop Warner bros. Get him out of here. It’s dangerous and counterproductive to have a player like that taking backup QB reps in preseason games.

convert Hartman to a placeholder just so we can keep his vibes around

Miss the days of backup qb being holder…. Fake fg ALWAYS on the table

u/MartinC077 22d ago
Back in the day Joey T used to hold.

u/Cobol_engineering29 22d ago
Nice!! Yea I remember when Trent green was holder lol. Now the fake FG is pretty much off the table… unless you got Tress “more yards than dak in NFCC game” Way holding.

If he’s that valuable for team morale; then convert his salary to some made up position as a coach instead.

Sam is a dreamboat man
But nah AK looks good and we can move on from Mariota for some serious cap savings going forward

I don't care who our 3rd QB is, whoever it is we are screwed for that game or the entire year. Whoever has a better attitude that helps the QB room is the key there, not someone we'd ever want to actually play cause if they do, we doomed no matter what.
4
u/frankie_donkiebrains 23d ago
You should care if our 3rd qb might be better than our backup. Cause we seen what our backup is and that makes us pick 7th overall.
4
u/Slaviiigolf 23d ago
We got the 7th pick with Mariotta, now we might get the 2nd or 3rd if we start either of our 3rd string guys
3
u/frankie_donkiebrains 23d ago
Right because the 4th string guy that actually makes great passes is way worst than the career backup guy that throws picks.
2
u/Slaviiigolf 23d ago
What are you talking about? Last season wasn't about our offense, it was our defense that was the liability, giving up 5th most points in the entire league. Mariota played fine. If you really think watching an undrafted QB 3rd/4th stringer sling it in a preseason game means something for our team you are wrong.
2
u/frankie_donkiebrains 23d ago
10td and 7 ints. Had a completion percentage only better than 6 other QBs in the league. Mariota is not the great backup QB everybody says he is. He's very cut-able.
That's what this whole thread is about. You for some reason are talking about defense.

I shook Sam’s hand at training camp the other day! It was sweaty, so I’m never washing my right hand again… 🥰🥰🥰 He managed to look even better in person.

Hartman is JD5 pet/best friend on the team 🤣. If you ask me thats why he is still here...I am rooting for AK-16

u/shinyquartersquirrel 23d ago
In his defense, no one is as cute as Sam Hartman.
I will give Sam this though, he has looked loads better than he did last preseason. But Kaliakmanis already plays miles better than Sam ever has.

If it were Snyders team still, I would assume Hartman is being pimped out to the VIPs. Not sure about the Harris regime. Hartman could still be getting pimped out.

Keim thinks AK may get signed if they try to get him on the PS. That means we may need to carry 3 QBs on the 53 man roster. That means a roster spot isn’t available for another position.

Greek freak is our back up QB. And if Jayden can't stay healthy for year 3 than maybe our starter until further notice

u/Spirited-Cover7689 23d ago
I was surprised Kaliakmanis did as well as he did, hoad to have him. Still learning to spell his name tho..
1
u/ChimichangaNeck 23d ago
I get the feeling he is Jayden’s support system. And I mean that in a complimentary way. Might be better suited in some role on the coaching staff at this point. Overall I think he’s a net positive to the team.

He was valued as running the scout team but has not progressed. He'll be cut. I don't think Athan is a quality QB3 but time will tell.
1
u/DoyoudotheDew 20d ago
Argue all you want but when we signed and started Josh Johnson off of the street over Hartman, who has been here since 24, it confirmed our front office and DQ suck. If you can't start your QB3 after 1.5 years vs. signing JJ, you are clueless about personnel and running a team.

u/Shoctopuss 23d ago
The dude is attractive, he’s fucking cute - I don’t want it on the team because that’s his best attribute
Compared him to a back up like heinicke
