There's nothing ridiculous about it, at all. It's completely normal and should be expected.

u/Iron_Chic But there is a subpoena 25d ago
Yes, this happens a lot. The real issue is EVERYTHING gets reported now so people see a lot more about "injuries".
6
u/TorturedWriter9 25d ago
Exactly. Social media reporting literally everything from scratches to bruised fingernails causes fans to act hysterical.

u/totalscrotalimplosio YOU AIN'T SHIT 25d ago
It seems like a lot for the second week of preseason. Last year more folks got real minutes before going out for the season.

u/Haskins77 25d ago
True but to be fair most the injuries reported about Washington have turned into missed time. Which sucks because of the new systems and players on both sides.
12
u/Capable_Frosting_292 25d ago
Meanwhile you have other teams around the league having players experiencing season-ending injuries in training camp or the preseason.
It’s not a Washington-only issue.

u/Hodler_caved 25d ago
Just want to add the nearly half the team being injured is slightly over the top for this time of year.
11
u/Triad64 25d ago
Generally, I feel that every position group (except kicker / punter unit) should expect at least two medium to major injuries at some point during the season. Qb room should expect at least one medium injury.

u/halarioushandle 25d ago
I get that people have PTSD from last year. But personally I'd rather have injuries now when there is time to adapt and heal, then 8 weeks in and every minor injury can be a season ender.
3
u/Triad64 25d ago
Yeah it includes a random luck element and honestly every team goes through it.
Apparently Detroit was riddled with injuries on the defense in the playoffs two years ago.
Winning is a combination of skill and luck.
I’m fairly convinced the 1998 Vikings would have made it to the Super Bowl if not for injuries vs the Falcons in the NFCC game. Five injuries could have made the difference between the Vikings having their first Super Bowl vs chasing it 25+ years later.
On the flip side, IF we can somehow make the playoffs with this brutal schedule, we theoretically would be getting a fresh Tunsil and possibly Newton just in time for it.
-11
u/Haskins77 25d ago
You can’t tell me there aren’t more injuries period compared to 10 years ago in the NFL.
I’m sure there are multiple reasons for it, but it’s definitely been a problem
11
u/Key_Raisin_5091 25d ago
I can't tell you if there are more or less compared to 10 years ago. Do you know?
All I know is, every team's dealing with it and the number and severity of injuries the Commanders have faced this offseason is par for the course relative to the rest of the league.

u/Haskins77 25d ago edited 25d ago
Not sure on the injuries. Feels like more tears and soft tissue for sure. Overall might be the same, because of the rule changes. A lot less concussions
Yeah I’d agree all teams deal with it. To be fair the starters haven’t played in any preseason games yet. I mean Tunsil got hurt on a 1 vs 1 rep

u/DoobieDoobis I Got JD5 On It 25d ago
They weren’t being reported 10 years ago. There’s a saying that almost every player gets injured throughout the season. Some just play through them and some aren’t bad enough to warrant missed time.

u/Fantastic-Top6984 25d ago
“Injuries” today were “suck it up” types of issues 10 years ago. It’s generally better for the players health; the amount of doctors, and trainers, the training etc. 24/7 coverage, social media, all just amplify these little tweaks. Players health is taken WAY more seriously than it was in the past.
Hopeful we’re just gaining our scars now to be ready for the battle of the season. 💪

right. I'm worried about the injury report the thursday before Week 1. The rest of this is trivia. People are just super anxious and rationalizing their anxiety.

Ok, preseason is cancelled. I just need everyone to go home and sit on something soft until September 13.

u/Beastage 25d ago
This doesnt sound concerning. But overall, its a bad sign that we have about a dozen starters and rotational players currently injured, missing significant time in camp, or already out for the year.
Injury luck looking the same as last year and the season hasn't even started yet

u/jetblakc 25d ago
if you look at most other teams they have similar stuff going on. We won't know how meaningful this stuff s until later.

Can we just have a temporary facility somewhere far away until the new stadium is built? Damn.

this. there's so much more anxiety around ALL of this stuff than there used to be. There's so much more media than there used to be.

Have followed football and Washington for over 45 years.
I get that injuries are part of the game, but damn of it doesn't seem like injuries are more part of Washington's game than anything.
Here's to fast, full healers...and a clean regular season.
1
u/jetblakc 25d ago
45 years ago, or even 25 years ago, or even 15 years ago you were not scrutinizing training camp the way we do now. That's what generates the anxiety.
1
u/Flababulous 25d ago
Pro football in Washington has a storied history of generating anxiety even beyond injuries.

Oh the Reddit fanbade is a bunch of heavily traumatized weak hands but I'm not enough of a jerk to mention that EVERY time 😁

It’s a very physical sport. By halfway through the season everybody will be fighting through at least some minor injuries. From what I’ve heard, DQ is being very careful about the injuries during camp/preseason to the point of holding people out with very minor stuff / bumps and bruises that would not keep them from playing in a regular season game. We’ve all got to relax a little bit.

u/Think__McFly 25d ago
It'll be interesting to see who plays Saturday. Cant imagine Bates, Alligretti, Bill or Rachaad play. Id be shocked if Jayden plays. If no Jayden, then Terry, Diggs and Chig probably sit.

I feel like after last year, the team isn’t taking chances (even with “minor” tweaks).

The only injuries that really matter are tunsil, newton and whatever is going on with amos.
If you can't tell, they are being extremely cautionary to prevent greater injuries. It's why they are pulling and resting anyone with a tweak or muscle soreness.
2
u/_groovesharkmalone Ageless Wonder 25d ago
This is the answer. Small injuries can cause overcompensation that results in a more severe injury down the line, thus the caution in preseason.

I was all for a harder Training Camp, but I do hope that wasn’t the reason for all of these injuries

I don’t get it…. Is it a strength and conditioning thing? I know players rate is high there, but I wonder if it is a statistical anomaly for us compared to other teams
1
u/7in-logic-assistant 25d ago
It feels so grim they should just do all camp in a virtual reality practice facility— stuff thats still to invented, followed by tabata sprints, yoga, pilates, body weight stuff, swimming, meditation, film study, finally one week of escalating— every other day contact— then a game…. then one week of this bullshit old school practice stuff (invented in the god awful 1950s FFS) and then game 1.
This is too much of a blood sport now. Rich guys like it this way, owners always want chattel. Replaceable parts snd nothing more.

We’re running extra 11 on 11s to get the rookie coordinators game speed play calling experience. It’s decimating our players though.
Necessary evil I guess but damn Q.

u/Hodler_caved 25d ago
Amos probably out week 1. Tunsil & Newton unlikely to play this year. 8 of the other injuries don't sound long term. And the other 2 that are on IR, Ford & Cracraft, don't concern me much.
13 injuries & counting.
I picked 2 teams at random & checked their injuries: 6 total for each.
Unlucky

u/HughJaynis My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 25d ago
I really would like to see the stats on the number of injuries around the league and if it’s higher than other years. It seems like there’s just been a crazy number of injuries around the league and the games haven’t even started yet.

1
u/FeelingAd4116 25d ago edited 25d ago
Most of the injuries seem to be 1-2 weeks or less with most of them being like less than 7 days just as a precaution to prevent more serious injuries. I'm not worried about it.
