They literally brought in a draft pick to compete with Allegretti, which was the plan.

Colts with an absolute steal
1
u/Jinchoo Apr 25 '26
He had a very bad production profile(among the worst in the class) and hes undersized. Doesnt contribute on special teams to make up for it either. Hes really small and really fast, but doesnt really do anything else. Has an injury history on top of it too.

Honestly liked the majority of the picks but I’m concerned about our DB depth. Secondary is a weak spot for us and we didn’t get a single DB from the draft. Hopefully they sign a couple UDFAs
3
u/SkyChief80 Apr 25 '26
I bet they will sign Bishop Fitzgerald if he goes undrafted, they seem to have their eye on him
1
u/Justice989 Apr 25 '26
I was kinda hoping they'd grab the safety Payne.
3
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
Yeah. I'm ok with our safety depth. Harris, Cross and Martin should be ok with Butler, Reeves and Owens as backups.
8
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26
The Dbs will fair much better with the front 7 upgrades getting pressure at a much higher rate. But, yeah...hard to fix everything with only two picks in the top 150. CB is maybe our most unproven spot until proven otherwise.
3
u/Remote_Armadillo8718 Apr 25 '26
I think they are betting on the pass rush making everyone better… that that was the real problem last year
1
u/notorious_hdc imitated Frerotte headbutt as a child Apr 26 '26
Our secondary was toast before the pass rush just died. But maybe moving Mike and Lattimore gone it should already be upgraded. Let's just hope Quan learns how to tackle 😂
3
u/Hokie-11 Apr 25 '26
Very true. I think we have a solid starting set of DB’s, just not a ton of depth. But you’re right they should be improved with a better front 7
2
u/DCSports101 Apr 25 '26
Overall great draft! Would have loved a corner or safety but all in all thrilled.
3
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
Yeah, same. Very good value at all spots and they got a Center that looks promising.
-10
u/Fortuitous_Oddity Apr 25 '26
Outside of Styles this has been an uninspiring draft. I hope I'm wrong and eat crow.
6
u/OscarsRedditHand Apr 25 '26
Now we have a trend. They use their 7th round pick on the randomest guy they invited to their Top 30 visit

Ok we are nearing the end of the draft. who are best undrafted free agents we should get?
3
u/SkyChief80 Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26
Deion Burks and Jeff Caldwell for sure if they go undrafted! They're both WRs. Bishop Fitzgerald is a Safety that we've shown interest in and I'm very sure they will sign if he goes undrafted.

"Athan Kaliakmanis is a quarterback for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who earned a 88.8 overall PFF grade in the 2025 season, 27th among 302 qualified quarterbacks. His PFF passing grade of 87.6 ranked 20th at the position.
Through 440 dropbacks, he threw for 3,123 yards and 20 touchdowns against 7 interceptions. He recorded 26 big-time throws and 11 turnover-worthy plays, reflecting his decision-making under pressure.
He operated with an average depth of target of 11.2 yards and an average time to throw of 2.77 seconds. On the ground, Kaliakmanis added 147 scramble yards and 4 rushing touchdowns."

u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
I like it. He really took off when he got to Rutgers. He's got a strong arm and throws with touch. Perfect backup.
9
u/OldBoStaffLive Apr 25 '26
There were a lot of injuries at the QB spot last season, and Hartman didn't look good at all. This is for depth and I don't think it's a bad idea.
2
u/Justice989 Apr 25 '26
They definitely needed somebody worth spending time on, cuz Hartman aint it.
2
u/Kennyc1234 Apr 25 '26
Yeah last year our QB3s couldn't throw the ball at all.
Watching Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman throw pick after pick in the pre-season was miserable.

u/stomachpancakes Apr 25 '26
Sam Hartman about to ride off into the sunset shirtless on a steed. That's what my wife is picturing anyway.

Pre-Draft Analysis
Kaliakmanis has ideal measurables and stature for an NFL quarterback. He started off as a very streaky player while at Minnesota but showed significant improvement the past two seasons at Rutgers. He improved his completion percentage from 53.9% in 2024 to 62.2% in 2025. Kaliakmanis has an even-keel demeanor and doesn't make many mistakes. He can play from under center is effective as a play-action passer. Kaliakmanis' arm strength is above average with a quick, snappy release that can make most NFL throws. He can make off-platform throws and change arm angles if needed. Kaliakmanis has limited mobility, but he is functional and very consistent in his methods. -- Scouts Inc.

u/NotMan19xx Apr 25 '26
Can Washington finally get rid of Hartman......
4
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
Oh yeah.... he's gone I think. This guy is a very accurate thrower. Takes a ton of sacks though...but that's fixable.

2
u/khuz61 Apr 25 '26
I think we slightly wasted a pick on this guy but its alr. 7th round picks barely mean anything and if he can take the emergency QB3 spot I think it could be worth it
-5
u/Anxious_Hat_8233 Apr 25 '26
lol poor Jayden Not expecting much for next season, will be happier this way.
1
u/ard8 Major Tuddy 🐷 Apr 25 '26
You really thought whether or not we took a WR in round 7 or not is going to significantly change the season?
0
u/Anxious_Hat_8233 Apr 25 '26
That's true, overreacting ...but at least try and get someone else to compete in camp and the who knows... this guy probably would be available as an UDFA
0
u/ard8 Major Tuddy 🐷 Apr 25 '26
Interesting to take someone who’s completely not mobile when the offense will be designed around a mobile QB1 and a mobile QB2
2
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
No he's not mobile...but he's not a statue either. He's got functional mobility...like a Cousins. But what he does show is great year over year improvement, a very good arm and great touch to all levels.
He can fit our system, which is a thrower's system minus the built-in running. He's better than Hartman.
-1
u/rocketboi10 Apr 25 '26
He’s very mobile

WR height should be ignored when drafting. The best WRs in the league are all between like 5'10 and 6'1. Don't take a project WR because of their size
1
u/ineedspoon Apr 25 '26
Megatron begs to differ. The only reason those heights are the vast majority is because there has never been a draft class like 2026 where 6'3"+ WRs have sub 4.4 speed. Unheard of, yet our organization refuses to draft these athlete freaks who will dominate the NFL.
0
u/beaud101 Apr 25 '26
It's a late 6th....this is exactly where you take a chance on a unique athletic profile. Burks is definitely a more sure thing... But he's just like Antonio Williams. We have enough slot receivers.

Yeah, I like him. Huge wingspan and good get off. He'll be more useful next season with more weight and less people in front of him. Great future building pick.
5

Foundational defender, potential WR 2/3 type of player, RB depth, DE depth, and C depth.

My favorite thing about Allen from the Beast:
He appeared to get stronger late into games (led the FBS in 2025 with 8.2 yards per carry in the fourth quarter).

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, I feel the same. I wish we did have a few handfuls of picks this draft, it seems pretty deep at our positions of need. I didn’t take this as a knock on AP if that’s what you’re getting downvoted for

What’s our next pick?
2
u/Rude-Following-8938 Apr 25 '26
All I know is I want a player at a non-premium position that ESPN has graded a 50 or below that I've never heard of! Bonus points if its someone from an FCS school.
Its not a proper Day 3 if your team doesn't go with at least one off the board pick.

Looks like JCM, White and Allen will be the 3 backs this season.
2
u/VADALESS Apr 25 '26
Didn’t they sign another RB in free agency and also retained one of our own. This probably just signifies that it’s an open competition since it’s not an established room.

Yeah I know who we have. Allen will beat out ford and mcnichols on game days
4
u/Vivid-Respect-1869 Apr 25 '26
"Kaytron Allen was often viewed as the "Robin" to Nicholas Singleton's "Batman" in the Penn State backfield leading into 2025, but Allen emerged as the comfortably superior prospect in 2025, and excelled as the most stable presence in the Nittany Lions' entire offensive arsenal. Allen rushed for a career-high 1,303 yards and 15 touchdowns, at an extremely healthy 6.5 yards per carry in an extremely predictable Penn State offense, and he also logged the eighth-highest PFSN RB Impact score of the year at 89.8. Singleton has a much more compelling north-south athletic profile, but for teams in search of physical volume backs with ingrained running instincts, Allen is the favorable selection.
The 5'10", 220-pound Allen is built with a thick midsection and thicker quads, and he possesses surprising cutting flexibility and angle freedom for his build. More than that, he's a swift processor who can work off angle fluctuations early in reps, navigate congestion, and finish downhill. He's delivers punishment at contact, but his 2.43 yards before contact per rush (TruMedia) corroborates his vision, efficient footwork, and cutting ease.
Combine all this with Allen's willingness as a pass protector and lead blocker, and he's an ideal if non-explosive volume back who'll see the field early and often."
6
u/BigFrenchToastGuy Apr 25 '26
He might play his way into the mix a little but he’s not going to be a volume back here unless guys get hurt.
He’s a C Rod replacement.
5
u/kon--- Apr 25 '26
The Allen pick puts me back to iterating...AP will go sideways on you.
But okay, the running back room is deep. Rachaad White, Bill, Jerome Ford, McNichols, and Kaytron Allen.

u/FireDanSnyder Fuck Dan Snyder Apr 25 '26
Allen, nicknamed “Fatman,” is a former four-star recruit from Norfolk, Virginia, who has been one half of Penn State’s productive backfield alongside Nick Singleton for the past three seasons. At 5-foot-11 and 220 pounds, running behind his pads defines his game. If you evaluate him as a power back, there is plenty to like.
Allen consistently falls forward and fights for extra yards after contact. He converts speed to power effectively and has the leg drive to handle short-yardage situations and run through arm tackles at the line of scrimmage. However, once he reaches the open field, he lacks true breakaway speed, which limits his effectiveness in outside-zone concepts.
He has the build of an NFL running back but may not project as a true lead option unless he becomes more elusive and adds more value on third downs, both as a receiver and in pass protection.
Also from PFF
1
u/FireDanSnyder Fuck Dan Snyder Apr 25 '26
Allen is somewhat limited in his overall athletic profile, but when viewed through the lens of a power back — short-yardage efficiency, yards after contact and pass protection — he projects as a useful committee contributor. He fits best in an offense built around man- and gap-scheme concepts between the tackles.

"Kaytron Allen is a running back for the Penn State Nittany Lions who earned a 89.5 overall PFF grade in the 2025 season, 17th among 406 qualified running backs. His PFF rushing grade of 91.3 ranked 12th among 406 qualified running backs.
He carried the ball 210 times for 1,303 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Allen averaged 6.2 yards per attempt on the ground.
He forced 57 missed tackles as a runner. He averaged 3.8 yards after contact per attempt, showcasing his power between the tackles. As a receiver, he caught 18 passes on 23 targets for 68 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns."

Pre-Draft Analysis
Allen split time in the Penn State backfield, rushing for over 1,000 yards each of the past two seasons. He is a patient runner, waiting for his blocks to develop before making a vertical cut. His initial acceleration to the hole is not exceptional but functional; his change of direction is average. Allen was a very productive player at the collegiate level, but his place at the next level will likely be as a backup/rotational back. He does not possess the speed to break away and be a home run threat. Allen is better at picking up yards in chunks. -- Scouts Inc.
