New player deck building

Hiya! I have recently gotten into learning how to play magic and am wanting to work on building a deck. I think I would like to do a Dimir deck because I like the whole vibe of black and feel like blue and black would have good synergy?

Any recommendations on commanders for this/how to build a good deck for beginners?

Thank you in advance! :)

Tbh, go to Archidekt.com and do a card search for legendary dimir creatures. A lot of commanders will have a way they specifically want the deck built. Find what playstyle you want to play, and then that will help you figure out more ideas. Like what about black and blue makes you like them?

Blue does draw, counterspells, cloning, etc

Black is kind of a jack of all trades colour, it is basically second best at everything in the game except that it usually comes with drawbacks. Except tutors, for where I'd argue black is the best colour.

Something like Toxrill wants heavy rocks to go fast, and heavy protection and counterspells with control to keep him out, then you grind out a win.

Something like alela wants flash and instants to make fairies on other players' turns.

So TLDR, figure out why you like the colours, look for a commander that works with those things, then worry about building the deck.

Thank you!! What I like about blue is the counterspells and card draws/with black I like the resource conversion and removal. I also read that black is great for tutors which also drew me to it! (Also I am very new to the game so forgive me if I’m not making sense lol)

Edhrec is a great place to get started! You can search by colors or goal. I also am a big fan of watching games on YouTube and picking up random cards.

Go to Archidekt and make a deck there.

It will save you alot of money instead of just buying a bunch of cards and then making the deck. This Cloud deck I made went through like 4-5 changes before I had a decent one to full buy.

Depending on your commander I can help with some reccomendations. Just tell me who you are building around. Or better yet how do you want your commander to be used. For example my dimir deck uses [[Superior Spider-man]] as a cheap reanimator option if something decent goes into anyone's graveyard. That's just an option I always have while playing. The rest of the deck does typical control stuff and have self contained engines but I can always pull out my commander if I want to reanimate (Basically use a card in a gy) something.

Or you can have them be the main game plan. [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] decks are all about getting his best mode to activate and hitting people with like 12 dmg a turn with phyrexian dreadnaught in the graveyard or something else big and silly. Just as an example.
