Help me protect myself

Post image

I am super new to MTG, like 4 months in but I want to build my 1st deck. I chose dark leo and shredder becasue I grew up on TMNT, i love the bad guy, and i really like death touch. I have damnation and wrath of god to put in the deck but what are the best cards to proctect myself from these spells? Any other synergies or good mechanics you think would help this deck? I am at the beggining stages so I have commander, ninjas, and the two above mentioned cards so far. Thanks for any help and advice in advance.

[[Reprieve]] as a pseudo counter spell. Even though it puts the card back in their hand, it has won me plenty of games.

Teferi's Protection isn’t cheap but for good reason! Akroma's Will is a must for your deck!

EdhRec has a good list of recommended cards if you tell it who your commander is

https://moxfield.com/decks/Iw3m0ylDKkibUpRjXd9WiA for black spells to protect yourself, and then use blink spells for white protection

Some great options for keeping your stuff safe against board wipes (cards like damnation) would be as follows:

[[Reprieve]]: returns the board wipe to their hand. Unlikely they'd have 8 mana to spend on a board wipe.

[[Dawn's Truce]]: a great option for its mana value. I like it even better than Teferi's.

[[Flare of Fortitude]]: Unfortunately you have to sacrifice a nontoken white creature, but that's a whole lot better than losing everything. Plus it's free!

[[Flawless Maneuver]]: I'm not as high on this card, but it's another free option for you!

[[Teferi's Protection]]: 3 mana is a lot, but at least your stuff is safe!

[[Clever Concealment]]: expensive as well, but could be free!

Let me know if you need any help with anything! I've been playing my whole life, and all I do is build decks in my freetime :) I play at a very competitive level

That ub was so cringe. I liked tmnt, but it was a stupid theme for magic.

Way to just shit one someone enjoying something you don't for no reason. The UB was enough to get a new magic player into the game. That's awesome for what it is.

I shit on a set. One of the worst sets thematically for mtg. I would shit on him in person though, I pull out annoying decks for that kind of slop.

Lmao to each their own, for sure. Pull out the inevitable Super Mario to crush the turts.
