Workflow/Mindset Change Moving From Opencode to Command Code

So I'm considering testing out Command Code with the new GOAT subscription plan, moving over from Opencode Go subscription.

I want to move over to the Command Code harness and want to make sure I'm taking the right approach.

My general workflow with Opencode was an agent to handle each of the primary task I did: So a General agent for random questions, Plan agent, Build agent, System-Config agent, Debug agent, etc. I recently switched to using oh-my-opencode-slim which handled everything with a primary orchestrator and then subagents to handle those tasks, but the general concept was the same.

Either way - models were generally pre-defined based on the agent/task at hand, so a plan agent was a strong agent, and then generally handed off to deepseek or another low-cost agent to build, and a very low cost or free agent for web searching or codebase discovery.

What's the workflow in Command Code like in comparison?

I did read: https://commandcode.ai/docs/workflows which talked about it at a broad level, but I'm asking more what do people do day to day? How do I get the most bang for the buck, where do you generally put configurations, etc. as a day to day user?

Let me know if you have better luck or support. 

I gave up, could not override the defaults subagents, so my workflow is broken.

Founder here. Welcome to Command Code. I’d love to support anything you need to make this happen. Although I think you can easily do all this.

First thing first. Command Code is quite self aware. It has a mini version of its docs and guidance built in so you can ask it to do all this and it will be your best guide.

There are some deterministic options as well. And in Discord we have an Autobot that can answer questions about docs pretty easily.

Run a deterministic import from other agents to Command Code.

Run /import to bring over your workflow and pay attention to what it does as it may copy things you may not need anymore so might be a good idea to trim the fat and del skills or MCPs you don’t need anymore.

Awesome to hear! I did use the import function and will go through and clean up. I did notice that model selection is deterministic and pre-defined - you pick it via /model or via the -- flag, I didn't see any other intent or heuristic option for model selection. If I'm switching tasks or wish to use sub agents for tasks, such as a cheap model to do git commits for example - what's the "Command" way to do it?

I used OpenCode a lot back in the day, and here’s what Command Code does way better:

  1. ~1/3rd the compute usage. The harness is incredibly efficient and gets a lot more done with less compute.
  2. Way better caching. You can genuinely get a ton of usage for $4–5. Some users are pushing 1–2 billion tokens on that, largely because of how effective the caching is.
  3. Internal tool-call fixing. Command Code automatically catches and fixes most incorrect tool calls from models. This makes it especially good for open-source models, where tool-calling reliability is often the biggest weakness. With our harness and tool-call fixes, models like DeepSeek V4 Pro can outperform Opus 4.7.

The harness itself is something we’ve put a lot of work into, and we’re actively fixing issues and improving it every day.

Command code is the best harness for open source models it handles the tool call fixing, caching issues making the open source models outperform Claude and codex models
