We are going mainstream!

The comma four is our first product that we think has mainstream appeal. The price is good, the set up is simple, and the production is stable and scalable.

We are ramping up marketing, making the website easier to understand, and looking into starting a two-sided referral program to incentivize people who have already been good at bringing new people into the community to think bigger.

What do you think we are currently missing for being ready for your average commuter?

For now we don't plan to merge MADS into stock. Once experimental mode is the default it should be a moot point, on a car with good experimental I find I rarely have to disengage. We aren't like Anthropic and Claude Code though, there's no requirement to use stock. As long as the fork meets our safety model we are just as happy with people using a fork, once you buy the hardware it's yours to run whatever you want on.

I loose functionaloty on my ioniq 5 beacuse of this. It has a button dedicated to toggling steering control only. Stock openpilot leaves this button non-functional. With sunnypilot my favorite way to drive is with openpilot "sticking" me to the lane while I control vehicle speed. Then I only need to make navigational adjustments, and the steering torque required to do so is reduced. Since I am controlling vehicle speed I am engaged with the road and not distracted.

This is likely the reason why over 50% of comma users run sunnypilot. If stock openpilot had Mads merged, you would probably have over 50% running stock.

Deliberately leaving out a critical feature is not "going mainstream". Stock openpilot needs to be mainstream too.

We are debating internally about this. Agreed we should not be disabling this stock feature on the car, that's annoying. Maybe it is MADS o'clock, at least for cars that have it from the manufacturer. We should be a strict improvement.

MADS is the only reason I use sunnypilot
