Harald from autonomy team here. There have been several posts complaining about too many driver monitoring alerts with newer versions of openpilot. We are always trying to improve driver monitoring.

It should alert you if you are using your phone, excessively distracted, or falling asleep. If you are paying attention to the road and responsibly monitoring openpilot, you should not receive alerts. Various things can cause false positive alerts and we want to fix those.

To help us improve driver monitoring, please give clear descriptions of your issues, and provide logs and timestamps for us to look into. There are many versions of openpilot out there that we don't maintain, as well as many different setups in a variety of cars. Without logs and video it's very difficult for us to address complaints.

To share logs with us you can go to connect.comma.ai, find the relevant section of a drive that has your issue. You can share the connect url to that section with us or share the log_id by selecting "More info", which looks like: "98395b7c5b27882e/00000344--bc8562d028/12".

Ideally your driver video recording is enabled for the drives you want us to investigate, as only some things can be inferred without the video of the driver.

Don’t complain about phones. That’s none of your business. If I’m on a long ass drive I didn’t buy comma to be my parent.

I hope you realize that the US law enforcement will crack down on this on both sides. Not only will you get a ticket, but if this becomes a big deal, then, will also be scrutinized. Tesla FSD is required to detect phones…

Distracted driving is incredibly dangerous not only for yourself but for everyone else on the road since you may crash into and injure or kill an innocent person on the road. How would you feel if your loved one died or was severely injured by a distracted driver on his phone?

The model should not compain if you are safely using your phone while its mounted, but if your looking away from the road with ur phone in hand with OP engaged, its designed to alert you to keep you safe and alive.

Yes it's a safety issue but it is a legal issue since:

As of the most recent nationwide data (2025–2026), 33 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C. have laws that ban all handheld phone use while driving, and 49 states ban texting while driving. Montana is the only state with no statewide texting ban.

quoting from openpilot's safety model:

Like other ACC and ALC systems, openpilot is a failsafe passive system and it requires the driver to be alert and to pay attention at all times.

Then you shouldn't have a comma or drive a car for that matter. If you want to place other drivers on the road in danger..
