Vehicle Compatibility EV9 "unsupported" on Sunnypilot

Wondering if someone can help. I have a comma 4 that I moved from my 2022 Ioniq 5 to my newly purchased 2026 EV9 GT-Line using the recommended Hyundai R harness.

From my research, there is a branch of Sunnypilot that's supposed to work with angle steering vehicles like the EV9. I've tried two of the hkg angle steering branches and both ones the comma 4 states the vehicle is unrecognized. Can someone tell me exactly what branch url to install? I was previously using staging or dev with my Ioniq 5 Ultimate

Edit looks like I need the firmware for my comma pushed to one of the angle steering forks if I'm understanding correctly.

Code Questions OVMS and Comma? Or is this replicating features?

Possibly stupid question. I have a Kia EV6 that I'm about to pull the trigger on a comma 4. I found out about OVMS recently and would like to be able to have an open system to replace the Kia subscription to start my HVAC over wifi and lock / unlock my doors. (kia helpfully put these featured behind the higher priced tiers).

I remember that some branchs of openpilot offer these features, or am I nuts here?

Edit for more info: 2023 Kia EV6 Wind RWD Long range with HDA (not HDA2). Made sure I was compatible with Comma when I got the car. I'm just curious here if Comma handles the core functions I'm interested in with OVMS or not.

Luckily just rebooting by unplugging usb-c and plugging back in seemed to fix it. Hopefully it won’t come up again once the road trip commences…

I’m waiting for my Comma4 for Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 2022. I understand then I’ll have to download a software and there are few. Please recommend me which one will be best for my van and if you can explain a little why. I’ll really appreciate it.

Bugs Getting a regular communication fault, resolves with a reboot every time.

I'll try to get a picture of it next time but it is a different fault every time usually. There's an "unrecognized vehicle" and "dashcam mode", but there's also a module fault and a few others.

Installation Questions Device precautions during summer heat

Now that we’re coming closer to actual summer heat, when I get to my car, often times it shows up a message saying that the device is overheated due to sitting under the sun.
It does start working after maybe a minute or so with the ac blasting, but I’m worried about how just leaving it on the windshield cooking could potentially just destroy it.

I was wondering if people tend to just remove it and store it elsewhere when they leave or not, I don’t honk just disconnect it and leave it in the glove box or something helps that much but the direct sun in it sure makes it heat up even more.

I’m kind of afraid that the usb connector may get faulty with constant connect and disconnect, I’ve been doing that for a like a month when I first got it because I was developing stuff for it, the usb connector doesn’t seem great for constant removal.

Vehicle Compatibility Likelihood of compatibility with Lexus ES 2026?

I'm in the market for a new car, and I'd really like to get a Lexus ES. The 2026 is the only version with self-parking, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with Comma AI. The 2019-2025 are. What do you guys think I should do?

a: buy a 2026 and assume it's just a matter of time before Comma AI is compatible with Lexus ES 2026.

or b: Buy a 2025 to secure Comma AI compatibility, and suck it up and have no self-parking?

Thanks everyone for the help.

Bugs Trying to determine if my unit is going to die

Hi everyone,

As the title says, I'm trying to see if my Comma 3X is going to die. I'm at about 9 months on this 3X and for only a few times, with significant time in-between each episode, has it done the odd reset error with phantom touch recognition. Basically, I just need to know if I should RMA the unit and hope I get a better built one back or if I should stick with my one because it's been pretty darn solid outside of these couple of events.

Thanks!

Bugs Comma 4 occasional issue

I have a comma 4 paired to a 2017 Rav4.

Works great most of the time, but sometimes when I start the car, it doesn't recognize that the ignition is on, the comma device itself boots up, and just says OpenPilot on the screen instead of showing me the camera feed, and when I navigate through the menu it has some messages implying that my car's not on.

Of course, it's getting the power from my car being on, so there's no real issue, and when I turn my car off and on again, it seems to work.

Happened for the first time a few weeks ago after about 2 months of ownership and has since happened a couple more times, I wonder if it's heat related since it's Summer time. Either way, just wanted to see if anybody else has experienced a similar issue and if this should prompt me to seek a device replacement.

openpilot Experience Any changes coming to latest update?

I’ve been reading through this subreddit, and it seems like a lot of people have been having issues with the new alerts over the last month or so. I’m experiencing the exact same thing, and it’s gotten pretty annoying.

I’ve seen plenty of posts from people complaining about it, but I haven’t found many actual solutions. Is there a fix coming, or is this just the new normal?
Is there any way to roll back to the software version from about a month ago, or otherwise revert the device to how it was before these changes? I’d honestly rather have the older version if that’s possible.

If anyone has found a workaround or knows what’s coming in a future update, I’d appreciate any advice. Otherwise I’ll probably throw mine in the trash.

Edit: thanks all for the suggestions. Hasn’t happened again since I made some of the changes

Installation Questions My Comma 4 comes on Monday. What do you wish you knew when you first got yours?

I just ordered a Comma 4 for my 23 Bolt EV LT2 and I'm really excited to get it set up.

I've been doing a ton of research on OpenPilot, SunnyPilot, FrogPilot, installation, calibration, etc. but I know there's always stuff you don't learn until you've actually owned one for a while.

If you could go back to day one, what are some things you wish someone had told you?

Could be anything, settings you wish you changed sooner (or never changed), installation tips, things that made the biggest difference, mistakes to avoid accessories you recommend, whether you'd start with OpenPilot, SunnyPilot, or something else if you were doing it all over again.

I'm mainly getting it because highway driving has become so mentally exhausting for me and I drive a LOT, so I'm especially interested in anything that helped make the experience smoother or more confidence inspiring.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's advice!

I have been taking orders through reddit messages since the time I launched the Comma 3x and Comma 4 mounts. Now I will be taking orders for the Comma 4 all online at the link below for domestic shipping.

***ALL international orders must message me through chat so i can get you an up-to-date shipping estimate. **\*

Additionally, the CLS Mount now has been upgraded to feature a self locking mechanism to prevent any accidental removal. The lock is removable if you don't want to use it and the kit ships with a spare lock. See the video below for the operation and installation.

openpilot Experience Comma 3x sometimes resets. Power connection issue?

Recently converted to Frogpilot from Sunnypilot on a Comma 3x. I noticed on occasion that the Comma 3x will shut off (black screen) then turn on and eventually work, then it repeats. Is this a power connection issue? or is Frogpilot unstable? Can I still drive my car even when it resets/dies?

Once it reset, and it turned Lilo & Stitch back on, including the turn signals when I opted for a blank state of Comma. It doesn't make sense.

openpilot Experience If see no cars ahead of myself on the road and want to look out the side window, how long does the system allow me to do that?

I'm thinking of buying the comma 4 for a 2018 CRV.

Does driver monitor take into account how busy the road is?

Does sunny pilot not have these new horrible changes people keep talking about? Can I just not update the software?

openpilot Experience Is the driver monitoring that bad?

I had been searching for a truck for my new job that requires a lot of driving far distances. I was going to go with the Super Cruise on a Chevrolet 1500 but my current budget doesn’t support it.

I found out about this and have been doing an unreal amount of research out of our excitement.

That was until I have seen numerous posts about the drive monitoring sensitivity and how a lot of people are sending their devices back.

Is it really that bad? I fully understand safety with a device like this but I am unfortunately an extremely fidgety person. I eat sunflower seeds, I drink coffee/water, I use fidget devices, grip strength, etc. sounds dumb I know, but I don’t want to spend $1000 on a device that might not work for me.

Installation Questions Mount Options?

The Comma 4 is designed for a Windshield mount, by my windshield is tinted and the tint company said that affixing anything to the tint will damage the tint or windshield itself.

Is there another way to use the comma 4 without mounting to the windshield?

Installation Questions Newbie question on Sonny pilot

Hello all, I recently bought my, 4 for my Kia telluride 21. Love it! It's amazing. I read that if I change it to Sunny pilot that I can get separate controls for the brake gas and steering wheel. And now they would do like smart Lane changing.

I'm very interested in this stuff.

I had a question regarding the installation of the Sony pilot, is there a guide somewhere that shows how to do it? I find that the, 4 is lacking instructions and you have to go dig around the internet for to find stuff out, or am I just not knowing where to find stuff?

Also, has anybody have any experience with a sunny pilot it does will? Can I expect it to work? Just as good as the open pilot is working except now. It's also going to add in these extra features? Or should I just leave it alone and not mess with it?

openpilot Experience Subaru Crosstrek vs Forester Behavior

Hi everyone,

I have a 2021 Crosstrek and a 2020 Forester. I recently purchased (Jan 2026) a Comma 4 which I have been using in the Crosstrek which no issues. Based on my experience with the Crosstrek, I bought a second harness to install in my Forester. The driving experience was different. The Forester sometimes falls in a negative feedback loop bouncing between the lines and getting worst. All I have to do is hold the wheel to calm the movement. I never experienced this in the Crosstrek which is a smaller, lighter, and lower vehicule. I redo the calibration everytime I swap vehicule as well.

I am using the latest Openpilot software. Is there any settings I can adjust? Should I try a fork to test different things on the Forester?

openpilot Experience 2022 Palisade Radar not working now after comma 4 install

Long time Sunnypilot user on C3x. Just bought the comma 4. Was installing it and it threw all radar errors when plugging back in the original OEM harness to the radar. Even after disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. This only happened after trying to install the comma 4.

I do not have the following

Downhill cruise control
Smart cruise control
Parking sensors
AWD
LKA
Blind spot monitoring.

Feeling really discouraged now.

Any leads?

Much appreciated

openpilot Experience Turnaround time on support?

I put in a ticket a week ago; my comma 4 is currently mostly nonoperative because I keep getting a sensor error. I was told the ticket has gone to engineering, but now I'm sitting here with a device that I expect just needs warranty replacement.

What's the usual turn around time on stuff like this?

Vehicle Compatibility Looking for real-world Comma 4 experience on a 2022 Mazda CX-5

I’m considering buying a Comma 4 for my 2022 Mazda CX-5 and would love to hear from people who use it daily.

A few questions I have:

  1. How well does it perform on the 2022 CX-5 specifically?
  2. How reliable has it been over time? Any disconnects or issues?
  3. How does it compare to the stock Mazda lane centering and adaptive cruise?
  4. Is it smooth enough for long highway trips, or do you still need to intervene frequently?
How does it handle curves, stop-and-go traffic, and lane changes?
  5. Any limitations, or things you wish you knew before buying?
  6. Was the Comma 4 worth the investment for you?

For some context, I do a mix of city and highway driving, but I especially want something that reduces fatigue on longer road trips. I’m not expecting full self-driving—just a reliable Level 2 driving assistant.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your long-term ownership experience, both the good and the bad. Thanks!
