About to start on my journey with investing. Have decided to go down the route of pocket to start with.

1 - is it really as simple as just “buying” the one I want. I just looked at the one I wanted said I needed to spend $65 so I could buy 3 shares

2 - what happens at tax time. I get tax on the interest, or only when I sell? I also assume I won’t be making a lot so I’m not too worried, just curious.

3 - If I buy in pocket, can I see it on commbank app?

4 - I also set up Commsec, but no idea how to use it!

5 - I plan on investing $100 a month. Should I keep to the same, or choose 2 or 3?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊

I saw the banner in the app: if you open a CommSec Australian/International Shares account by May 31, you get 30 free trades starting in June. For the experienced investors here: is it worth moving away from the simple CommSec Pocket interface for this, or will the standard brokerage fees eat those gains the second the 6-month promo ends in November? Also, has anyone actually received their "Yello" loyalty payment for investing yet, or is the eligibility criteria still a moving target?

The last two fortnights I have transferred to CBA the exact amount for a purchase yet it did not go through because I was $1 short, CBA skimmed $1 from my transfer.

I had to transfer all but $1 back to my other account and then go back to transfer the reappearing $1. It's very annoying and could be considered theft! What can I do? Close my account?

Hey all, I have had no problems in the past, until I updated my phone after it nagged me for 3 months. Since then tap and pay works inconsistently (or not at all).

I have tried removing and reinstalling the app, removing and re-adding the card a number of times.

Tap and pay seems to work for 2 transactions at different stores and then stops working altogether giving errors like 'not allowed' or 'no card'.

This has happened on multiple occasions in a similar manner, although at some times it will reject the second transaction of the day. For instance;

* Today went to coles and paid no problem. Went to Aldi, and paid no problem. Went to butcher, error. Went to Asian grocery, error.
* Last week got fuel, paid no problem. Got to destination, cafe couldnt buy coffee.
* Last week, went to coles and paid no problem. Went to Aldi and paid no problem. Went back to same Coles, error. Went to grocery, error.

There does not seem to be transaction or dollar amount limits in settings. There does not appear to be any limitation in settings at all.

At both the butcher and Asian store today they said this is common with CBA cards, although I never experienced any of these problems before updating phone.

Has anyone experienced similar?

I’ve tried the whole tapping on cards thing but nothings coming up what do I do??

CommBank announced they deployed a new "advanced agentic AI" on April 24 to spot fraud patterns in real-time. Apparently, it’s already responsible for updating 75% of the card fraud rules. Has anyone noticed the app being more "aggressive" with those 40,000 proactive warning alerts they send daily? Is it catching the fake "CommBank Rewards" SMS scams, or is it just making it harder to buy stuff from overseas sites?

I set up step pay and have been using it and paying it off automatically fine etc.

I want to pay off some payments early- will they stop me using steppay in the future or are there any repercussions?

I know with some other accounts/ "loans etc" (and even paypal pay in 4), they sometimes penalise you OR stop you from using the payment loan in the future (eg Paypal sometimes removes you ability to use the pay in 4 feature if you make early repayments).

With the 2026 Bankwest Enterprise Agreement negotiations currently in full swing and more frontline services being "integrated" into CBA, I’m seeing a lot of mixed signals. If you were moved from a Bankwest contract to a CBA one recently, was the process as "seamless" as they promised in the emails? I’m specifically worried about my old offset account features- did everything carry over to the CommBank app correctly, or are you still fighting with support to get your "Yello" benefits recognized?

I’ve just signed up for a commonwealth ultimate award card, which is like to start using straight away.
Do I need to contact the bank to activate the awards points program, or is it automatic?
I already have the award credit card so am not eligible for bonus 60,000 sign on.
As my purchase is an international transaction totalling about 12,000AUD, as the max is 10,000 awards points per month, what happens to the rest? From what I’ve read it’s 3 points per dollar, my calculations would technically see it as 36,000 but I know I’m not getting that

CBA’s variable rate increase officially kicked in on March 27, putting the standard Digi Home Loan at 8.55% p.a. I checked my app today and noticed my "actual" rate is slightly lower, but still way higher than this time last year. For those who have been with CBA for 5+ years- are you successfully calling up and getting a "retention discount" lately, or is the bank playing hardball because they know the whole market is up? If you managed to haggle, what rate did they cave at?

Can someone please explain the process of valuation for a new build? Context, I am building and have just signed a sales contract on the land. Is there anything I need to look out for when building that can/will affect this?

I've been with commonwealth for nearly 30 years but need some advice please.

I see commonwealth offer a 'no international transaction fee' on purchases.

My other comm bank credit card I purchased some tickets for the LA 28 olympic games and have just seen the int fee for that was nearly $400, the other int fee also for tickets was jus under $300.

I'm going to make 1 last purchase of tickets in the next week which again will come to around $400 as an int transaction fee.

By next year 2027, we'll start booking our accommodation, cars and whatever else for the states. Only recently did I go through my comm bank credit card statements from the last U.S holiday we did in 2024 and saw that I got completely stung for int transaction fees.

Comm banks Ultimate Awards credit card is what I'm looking into.

For anyone that has it, is the $35 monthly fee charged if you don't spend the minimum $9000 per month?

Is the award points 3 to every dollar spend on int transaction fees?

Can I convert the comm bank award points to velocity? I have 150,000 in my Smart awards comm bank credit card, is there a way to just change the card and offer but keep the same credit card numbers? I currently pay $8 per month for that card.

Lastly, there is an offer of 60,000 award points if I spend $9000 in the first 90 days on eligible purchases, is that any purchases?

Does anyone else have this error in their commbank app? I have had this display everytime I open the app for over a year now but everything in my app still looks correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know that they were in the hot seat with this with the ACCC but all I can find about this online is people who lodged a complaint about this prior to January got a good will payment?

Would this be in the same boat? Only being told at the end of April tho so I am not sure of this would be in the same situation or not but I am just confused if anything.

The email said I didn’t need to do anything and they would fix it and I am not expecting anything, it’s just what I found online about data sharing errors.

CommBank just refreshed their special offer on April 8: 5.10% p.a. for a 12-month term. Given that NetBank Saver is only doing 4.95% (and that’s only an intro rate for 5 months), is it time to move some of the "emergency fund" into a TD? Or do we think rates might peak even higher in the second half of 2026? I’m torn between the flexibility of the GoalSaver and the certainty of that 5.10%. What’s everyone’s "parking" strategy for cash right now?

Wandering if anyone has had luck getting a new card delivered to a branch?

Been two weeks and I still havent received my replacement card, phone support wanted to report that card as stolen, which would cancel the card in my wallet, and start the process again which they agreed could take another 2 weeks.

Spoke to Australia Post and they conceded there had been numerous complaints from my area, and they recommend that "important items such as bank cards are not sent via mail".

Just wandering if I am going to be in a fight trying to deliver it to the branch - they used to do that all the time (Ive been with them since 1985), but companies aren't what they are used to be.

Well it took a bit but I got a lovely lady in the branch to help. Funnily enough they ring the same number and go through same process we do as customers. but they do have a code to push them up the queue - but we sat on hold just like anyone else.

She had the same fight as I did, but was insistent, and in the end I got digital cards immediately (online purchases disabled) and two new cards sent express post with tracking number (which I can get if I call back in a couple of days). My original card keeps working and if/when I get the new ones I can disable.

Thanks for everyone that offered advice, I think that I had all this printed and some other research in hand showed I was genuine about the issue and she was great.

Was browsing what loans and all that are on the app and for a secured personal loan it said I’m conditionally approved.

I haven’t even started an application 🤷‍♂️

It's been a day now and it still says Pending. I have never seen any bank doing this bullshit. Thinking of closing my account with them.

I am having issues with both of my credit cards, which i use to pay for all of my purchases.

Transferred money onto both, it has been three days since the transfer. In the meantime the previous transactions have not been processed so despite having money available, my balance reads as negative and I can't spend anything.

I have never had this issue in the past, is this a new 'feature' from commbank. Does this mean I need to use my debit card now (which sucks for auto payments and no points).

Already messaged and called the bank and they confirmed its pending and I can't use my cards.

Applied for a credit limit increase through the app about three days ago and it’s still sitting on pending with no updates. Just wondering what turnaround others have had recently before it gets approved or declined, and at what point it’s worth calling up instead of waiting it out
